denver, we are waiting for an update on their conditions. the fire happened near the intersection of colfax and sheridan. the denver fire department says a total of nine units have smoke, fire, and water damage. the motel's owner says he went into the room where the fire started. with a fire extinguisher. and tried to stop it. but the fire spread too quickly. >> when i saw the fire, that's when i lost it all. i thought i was going to be homeless. kind of frightening. >> lucky it was only on one floor. it was a bad fire but the motel was attached to another building, but the fire did not spread there. investigators are trying to determine a cause. police say one man is in the hospital with life- threatening injury, after a stabbing in aurora. it happened this morning, in the 15,000 block of walsh street. police have not made any arrests and they say they are not looking for a suspect. sky 9 captured video of someone being handcuffed. we don't know how this person might be connected to the situation. police tell us another active scene at 6th and chambers was

and at last check, police were waiting on a search warrant to stabbing happened. today, in denver, there is an ongoing rally taking place to protest a new city sidewalk clearing ordinance. dozens of homeless people have to clear their belongings off of the sidewalks, what is not cleared out will be picked up and taken away by the city. homeless advocates say these people have nowhere else to put their belongings and if they go to a shelter, most often there is not enough room for what they carry around with them. >> i got a ticket, went to jail, for the original sentence, it was 120 days, for illegally blocking a sidewalk. with four pairs of pants and four shirts. and i would like to see the city council get some low income housing. >> they don't have enough respect for themselves to get off the street. or enough respect for the people walking by. and there are children. they won't do it. the police really have to do something. >> a denver spokesperson says they can block sidewalks for

the order mans is being specifically enforced right around the denver rescue mission and samaritan house, across the street from each other. >> that area definitely has a lot going on. snow is developing in the mountains. and in the foothills, today. and it is expected to move down into denver, and boulder, tonight. and so let's talk to belen deleon, keeping an eye on things in the weth center. will we have snow in the front yards tomorrow morning? it depend where you live. and i think mainly the western suburbs and southwest metro area will see that rain/snow mix. but anything really accumulating is going to be very light and mostly on the grassy areas so i don't think you will have to do any shoveling. let's take a look at the radar, and where we stand right now, because the cooler air that pushed through yesterday managed to make its way into the great plains and texas, with severe weather. currently flood watches. there are flood advisories, tornado watch, and already a few tornadoes that have been reported. and now, what we are watching, is this storm system, that is brewing in northern mexico, right now, and it is going to get caught up in the upper

its way through the central part of the country. and what is going to do for us, spark up a few showers, in the form of snow, for the high country, and the possibility for a rain/snow mix here in higher elevations but it won't be until late this afternoon, and evening. we are already starting to see the clouds, just kind of develop over the city, and here is a look at the front range future cast that shows you how the brief round of rain and snow will make its way on to the front range later tonight but it is going to be quick moving. and into tonight. skies will start to clear. and so looking at the rest of the day, i think the afternoon commute is going to be okay. you will be making it okay, on some dry roads. but we could see accumulations in the high country, from this quick-moving storm, from 2-6 inches. and in the foothills, from 1-2 inches. and then a chance for us to see any kind of snowflakes out toward the western and southwestern suburbs. it is going to be very light. the temperatures right now, they are in the 40s and your highs will only be in the 50s. so this cold front that dropped through yesterday, actually knocked us down to where we year. and we are already looking ahead to the weekend and it

i have that forecast coming up in a few. >> perfect. that sounds nice. >> we need a nice weekend. thank you, belen. right now, the passes through glenwood canyon are closed again. drivers have to take the four or five hour detour through the mountains. it goes until 4:00 this afternoon. it is a stretch of road that closed at 9:00 this morning, and crews are using a helicopter to put in a rock fall net. they are hoping it will prevent more rock slides like this one that happened last month. huge boulders fell, hitting a car and a semi truck. nobody was hurt. but the road was severely damaged and a scary site there. there could be a few more weeks before the corridor is totally fixed. the el paso county coroner's office has now identified the two men who died in a small plane crash last week near palmer lake. daniel murray of longmon and jeff caplet of lafayette were heading to an antique airplane convention in a 1928 red curtis

76-year-old murray was a well known pilot, and the 60-year- old caplet was also a pilot who owned a couple of planes. details what caused the crash released. and in world news today, it marks two years since malaysia disappeared. 239 people were on board. passengers marked the anniversary today, at a buddhist temple in beijing. many people lit candles and prayed for those on the plane. the prayers turned into protests. some family members held signs and shouted, demanding malaysia airlines return the passengers to their families. investigators believe the boeing 777 crashed in a remote stretch of the indian ocean. there is a new presidential poll out today, from nbc news, and survey monkey online. on the democratic side, it puts hillary clinton ahead of bernie sanders. and on the republican side, donald trump, is highest in choice, with 39% of support. and followed by ted cruz and

neck, and john kasich has 9% of the support. the poll tracks voter preferences and attitudes on a weekly basis. and now, today, the focus is on four states. michigan, mississippi, hawaii, and idaho. these are not make or break states. but michigan holds the most weight today for all of the candidates. because it has the most delegates up for grabs. 152 for democrats. and 59 for republicans. and for democrats, experts say bernie sanders needs to beat hillary clinton today in michigan, in order to stay competitive. clinton is already trying to appeal to sanders supporters. >> i hope to win the nomination. if i am so fortunate, i hope to work with him. >> as we all remember, super tuesday, was one week ago, and florida votes next tuesday. latest polls show that donald trump is still ahead of marco rubio in florida. and rubio is hoping that his home state will come through for him. and if trump wins michigan,

happy tuesday, everyone. you know, our temperatures were running way above normal but a cold front had dropped through yesterday and today, our highs are in the 50s. that's the reason why i'm out here in my coat. march is usually our snowiest month on average but we have yet to see any snowfall. through the start of the month. now here is what we have so far, as far as the season goes. in denver, we have had 38.8 inches of snowfall. and now, our average seasonal snowfall by the end of march should be closer to 46.5. so we've got some work to do. here is a look at the state- wide snow pack, we're about 94% of median. and only 6% below where we should be this time of the year but we are doing okay. and we are crossing our fingers for the rest of the month. and also, april, which is usually the two snowiest months on average. 44 is the temperature right now at d.i.a. and out here in the backyard, our temperatures are coming in very similar.

are going to be in the low 50s. but take a look at the backyard temperature, and we are at 41 degrees. so looking at the weather across the state. northern colorado right now, in the mid-40s and 44 in denver and the high country and 30s and 20s, and the eastern plains already has 50-degree temperatures so we are going to see the warmest temperatures out on the plains. and 50s in the metro area. upper 40s in northern colorado. and the high country. a mix of 30s and 40s. here is a look at what is happening across the country. our storm track, or that jet stream, it is actually coming up and over california. and on the way into mexico, and in the central part of the country. over into the great lakes, and the midwest. so the storm is over mexico right now. and it is goes to glide along that storm track, and when it does, it is going to bring us an increased chance for moisture. the snow mainly in the high country and the possibility of rain and snow here on the front range. right now, we have very light snowfalling in higher elevations, no travel advisories issued but we could

this storm moves out. and from 1-2 inches in the metro area and for our western suburbs, we could see up to an inch of snowfall. don't get that excited about this little disturbance that is moving through. because the chance of any moisture is pretty low. that is good news, though, for your afternoon drive. it looks like we will have dry roads, temperatures in the 50s and 40s. and then through 7:00, 44 degrees. and here is that snow. in the high country. that is where we are going to stay. and then that moisture is going to roll off the foothills, closer to 7:00, 8:00, even 9:00. and it is not going to last long. through tonight, those skies will start to clear. and a reminder, that you can track all of this weather, on our 9 news app. it has interactive radar, hourly forecasts, and also that 10-day outlook. and it is absolutely free, in the app store. 26 is the overnight low. rain and snow clearing. and then tomorrow, a high of 53 degrees. and we start to warm up after that.

what do you think keeps people coming back for more? because so many people just go every time you are in town. >> well, personally for me, i think it is the music. the music is timeless. and to this day, when are you on stage hearing the same music every night, it gives you that spine tingling feeling. >> you still get your spine tingling? >> oh, yes. >> and it is all of us. we work together. and it is the roll call. and the dancers. we can see each other. and the silhouettes of the dancers. and the music is really all together. and it is great everywhere. it is epic. >> so if somebody has gone to river dance before, they have seen that but this year there is a new dance just involving women, right? >> yes. >> woe won't see james in this one. >> no, he is not allowed. it is an all female a capella.

powerful, and it is modern ireland, representing modern island and how women work together. >> amazing. the guys are not to be outdone, too, you are working hard and how difficult is it to keep up with this dance, and the rigorous schedule, and i know you've got abs of steel, you must. >> trying. working on it. >> it is tough. and it is very demanding on your body. and i get more athletic as the years go on, and people are trying new moves, and it is just getting crazy, but we all follow a rigorous diet, and workout plans and keep on top of things. >> what do you do to cross- train when you are dancing like this? >> i love to swim. it is every muscle. >> and we have workouts. trainers on tour. to get tips and hints. and being in the gym every day. >> and so when people come, and what is your favorite scene, what is the thing that you are going to say, that you must pay

so after patients leave hospitals and go home to recover, there is sometimes a gap between the care what is provided, especially for elderly parents. for example, some -- patients. for example some patients are unsure of what medications to take. and there is a patient experience that helps with reducing costs, called transitional message care. >> 72-year-old henry campbell was hit by a car last summer and needs a little help in the last stages of recovery and that's where karen copen actually comes in. as part of the transitional care team, she makes house calls. >> i would say on average, we see three patients a day. >> transitional care nurses provide support to home visits and checking in after patients are discharged from the hospital. often like henry, they are confused by all of the medications. >> i went with henry to one of the visits, so that we could talk to his doctor about it a

but we also, i thought it would be better for henry to have his medications all pre-packaged. >> people are identified for care by their primary care doctor. hospital staff. or nursing home staff. >> we have had patients in their 30s, and we have had patients that are, you know, 101. >> billy lynn alla developed the program about two years ago, in response to health care reform, which mandates shorter hospital stays. the shorter stays can mean little time for patients to understand their discharge instructions. which can get in the way of another mandate. to reduce readmission rates. transitional care helps on both counts. knowing they have a lifeline, patients return home feeling more secure, and less anxious about their recovery. >> we would like to stop the care after three months. it doesn't always happen. >> we will do that. >> we have been able to decrease readmissions in the population of patients who belong to the program, and we have also been able to decrease

it is the end of migration season for the marine mammals mermaid. hundreds of manatees are currently hanging out in the warm waters of the gulf until winter passes. now, some come from as far away as texas and virginia to wait out the cold in florida's natural hot springs. >> it has to feel nice and warm out there. >> and while there is only one place that visitors can go to legally swim with the gentle giants, there are plenty of locations where they can actually just see them from a safe distance, out there in florida. >> it is good to see them. >> as you know, they were threatened for a while and now doing better. >> yes.
