also wounded his own wife and her friend. atkinson was trying to help the two women-- when he was st. hearcin the court pearance had while experts evaluated whether he was mentally competent to stand trial. in previous court appearances-- lyons interrupted several times... trying to talk to the judge. he's changed public defenders three times. lyons faces 14 charges- including first degree murder, attempted first degree murder and first degree assault. it's been a deadly summer in the denver area- for domestic violence cases. in mid june... 18 year old ashley doolittle died. her ex boyfriend is accused of murder... he said he was mad about their breakup. about two weeks later- 52 year old cara russell was killed in downtown denver. the attack triggered a lockdown at union station. her ex husband tracked her from buena vista-- where she used to be mayor. she'd left the town after the divorce. last weekend- two shootings involving possible

in southwest denver on knox court before taking his own life last saturday. and a second double shooting the very next day.. this one on harlan street in denver... police say a man shot a woman then turned the gun on himself. and- just this week police in centennial investigated after a woman confessed to shooting her husband... the man survived but police say the woman took her own life after calling 9-1-1. today - denver police are doing something about it. 9news reporter vida urbonas is live on federal boulevard where officers are hoping to tonight. denver police are taking all of these recent cases very seriously .. the department is asking you to join them here for a community meeting to talk about the impact of domestic violence. tonight's meeting is to get some outreach into the community.. experts say it's out of concern that we have seen the recent increase in dv homicides in particular. dv is often seen as a kind of private family matter. but the reality is, it's something that impacts our entire community, and has a ripple effect across the community. so that's why they're tyring to help address that it really isn't a private family matter, that it can impact entire neighborhoods, certainly entire families they also want to let people know where they can go for help .. and one resource is the rose andom center . the event is here at the federico f. pena southwest family health center & urgent care from 6:00 to 7:30 tonight. federico f. pena southwest family health center.. at 1339 south federal blvd tonight is the
