passengers are stuck at airports breaking news, right now, passengers are stuck at airports around the world, because of a dell it computer outage. all flights waiting to take off are delayed. people running into that blank screen there. one man tweeted us saying he is stuck in brussels. he says they can't fuel the planes without access to the computers. someone is stuck in honolulu. worst places to be stuck, i guess. >> and colleen ferreira is checking out the >> and there are long lines at the delta check-in at d.i.a. and delta does not know when things will be fixed. they say if you're headed out, including to the denver airport, thir' warning you to expect a cancellation of your flight. you can see how long the line is, snaking past the ticket counter and we are expecting it to probably get longer throughout the morning. >> i imagine. >> it is tough. we have all been there. it is a long day. oh, man. a 10-year-old boy died on a

as the world's tallest water slide. the park will stay closed until police can figure out what went wrong. 10-year-old caleb straub was the son of a kansas state representative. he was riding the 17 story amusement park water slide sunday when he died. it is unclear at this point if he fell out of the ride. witnesses say there were complains about the ride's harnesses earlier in the day. >> boy, that is sad. and a 12-year-old child is at children's hospital, after falling some 75 feet, this the child was hurt on sunday, and flown to children's hospital. we're working to try to find out how the child is doing right now. >> a tough way to start the day. and let's get you good news. a little bit of good news. marty coniglio, meteorologist is joining us. 105 is the record and we won't get there today. we won't make it. it was this day in 1878, the first time denver hit 105 degrees. we did again in 2005. and a couple of times in 2012.

close to that today. and we will be quite warm. a little bit muggy this morning. temperatures in the 60s to near 70 degrees. and during the morning, and if you're working outside, it is going to be warm. upper 80s to about 910. and a very small -- 90. and a very small chance for a small pockets of storms during the later portion of the afternoon and we have thunderstorms in western colorado, and lightning, just really blowing up. especially within about 50, 60 miles either side of interstate 70 aspen area, and headed to vail, and avon, and eagle, and getting a thunderstorm right now, and we have some storms around the colorado national monument. and the number of strikes at 578, that is every 30 minutes, so that is a bet better part of 1,000 per hour, extremely active as far as lightning goes with the early morning storms. for us, one or two storms the best we can do. during the afternoon today. as temperatures start nudging

we are launching into an incredible week at the olympics, coming off an incredible night for swimming and gymnastics and believe it or not the best is still yet to come and one american fencer is making her way into history. >> a fencer is doing system historic in how she will dress for competition. >> it is all about this muslim- american, the first american olympian to compete in covering. she was born in new jersey. and her parents wanted her to be involved in sports. but they wanted her to pick a sport where she could dress very modestly. >> she found that sport, in fencing, and a long career, she has already had with fencing, in respect to athletes, starting in 2002, qualified to represent her home country making the united states olympic team, with the first muslim to wear a hijab and qualify for the summer games. being muslim, she has faced racism before but not like this

presidential candidate calling for muslims to be deported, it is frustrating as a muslim and athlete who only wants to represent her country. >> you know, it is frustrating. a little bit. especially because i, every time i go out there, you know, on the field of play, i am, you know, representing our country, and hoping to do a good job, and to represent my country well, to the best of my ability. so to have anyone kind of challenge that, that idea, that, you know, me ethnic minority can be very frustrating to not belong and i am hoping to use my platform as an athlete to fight the bigotry and hate that may stem from certain people. >> along with fencing, she has a clothing line for muslim line who want to be fashionable but dress modestly and once named in a speech by president obama for a lot of her accomplishments. >> you saw her walking in, in the opening ceremonies, a few

we woke up to a rainy morning in rio. and it could get wild again here today. >> my god, another storm. >> umbrellas are flying around. the fencing areas were being blown away. people being blown away. >> peeling back some of the walls of the swimming venue, the original art on the sign, ripped and unraveled. he of the huge panels that came apart in the wind so that the corner of that swimming venue is just open air. and most of the other banners around the park have been replaced. they put the fences back upright, but you know, some of that damage, you know, it may not ever get completely taken care of. and that is original artwork, like we were mentioning, on the swimming venue. so that might just be open air. but when you go inside, the venue seats go way up, so it doesn't really affect the

talk to you later. and the united states currently leads all countries with 12 total olympic medals. four bronze, five silver and three gold. and those numbers sure to keep rising as the olympics heads into its first full weekday today. and we will keep you up to date on the medal count as we go along. it is now 5:39. starting today, the food and drug administration will crack down on the e cigarette industry by enforcing new regulations. there is new rules that could impact local businesses. 9 is breaking down the tougher restrictions. good morning, jessica. >> good morning, ta ronda. the changes are a long time coming and the fda is bringing the entire industry under federal oversight but mainly affect the businesses selling the products and consumers may not notice too much of a different and you may remember earlier this year, the fda decided to redefine tobacco products and the newer rules apply to those.

and it bans the sale to certain ages. and fda will look at the products and companies can't give out free samples at the stores and the fda is being praised for stepping in and shop owners say the new rules will hurt business. >> my original reaction is fear. because i have a lot of time and money invested in my small business tobacco companies an millions of dollars, to get their products licensed but we don't make millions of dollars here. >> by the way, two years to license all of those products. now what the rules don't do is ban e cigarettes all together. they also don't ban advertisements or different kinds of flavoring which -- or critics excuse me, argue is a big problem. the ban on sales to minors begins in three months. >> jessica, thank you.

prices, they have plummeted, but have reached a landing possibly. the average price per gallon dropped 6 cents nationwide over the past couple of weeks. it is now $2.16 a gallon nationwide. a lot less than that in a lot of places in colorado. and prices fell $0.20 the last nine months. and lundberg sur say says prices have bottomed up, and it has been tied to a fall in crude oil prices which is now leveling out. marty? >> southwestern colorado, where we have seen plenty of rain, we are seeing indications that the season is coming to an end. some of our flowers, beginning to yellow and wilt, chimney rock, there in the background, and thunderstorms in western colessee this morning and a few -- in western colorado this morning and a few areas of small storms later in the day, from the southwest to the central part of the state and the front range. and one or two here and there. and strongest storms will be

[ laughter ] >> wow. i'm feeling really bad right now. >> but we're happy, right? >> see. there is something to that. >> let's check in with marty. thank you, guys. around here today, we are having thunderstorms in western colorado this morning. really, really intense electrical activity storms. and hey, upwards of 600 to 1,000 strikes per hour in a few of the storms going on and heavy storms in the midwest. and look at most of the moisture, from the monsoon theme. it is pulled into tropical storm javier. down into the pacific. and we are seeing the monsoons dry up a little bit here. and that said, we still have some areas of active weather in the west and not huge areas, and just a few small pockets, with a lot of lightning, and a little bit of rain. and for us today, that's what

very few areas getting a little bit of rain and some lightning and thunder during the afternoon. don't plan your day around getting some rain. it will be a few spots that get it later this afternoon. and upper 80s, low 90s, for daytime highs and 70s and 80s in the mountains. and we have started the day with thunderstorms in the west. and by 8:00, 9:00, those will begin to die down. and only to reform, in the heat of the day, in mountain area, and stretching almost border to border. new mexico to wyoming. and then cutting across the in very small areas. and with the strongest storms being over the northeast corner of colorado. and eastern weld county. and stepping down through sterling, holyoke and jewelsburg, later in the day today. and temperatures in the 90s around here. and out west. with 70s and 80s in the mountains. and 92, partly cloudy, and one or two isolated storms during the afternoon. brief storm in the early part of the evening and then clear out. a pretty good looking day tomorrow. at 94 degrees with a small
