threatening to sue the federal government is investigating and it's time this situation got some public attention. here's anastasiya bolton from the 9 wants to know team. >> they told me to take my clothes off and my shoes and my socks and take my shirt and my bra off. >> it's been a year since this woman was forced, as several investigations found, to take her clothes off for what colorado department of human services calls a wellness check after allegations of abuse reported. two reports done by two state agencies found dhs should have obtained informed consent from the people being searched or their appointed guardians. that didn't happen. instead of just the ones who may have been abused. workers searched all residents of the state-run homes. >> they were looking at my legs and my breasts. and i was crying after that. >> were you crying when they

6:03 pm
this is the denver pet cemetery, a lot of people have their animals here. a lot. we got involved with this place last year. it didn't look like anyone was running it let alone taking care of it. the day after the new story, the new owner was there and he was taking care of it. >> i don't mind talking to you. >> you don't want to get anything on the record. >> not so talkative when it was on. super talkative when it was off. he bought the cremation business. we found out that not so talkative talkative guy sold the property late last year. for a long time it looked like everything was back on track at the pet cemetery. the guy who bought the place set up a website offering services from burial to cremation. then i got a phone call last month someone telling me to go

brown, so is the grass. there's what appears to be an abandoned car and trash all over still. she used to work there. she has three dogs buried there. she hasn't seen the place in years and was absolutely taken aback when she walked around last week. >> you know, out of sight out of mind is exactly what i paid for. and now it's not out of sight out of it's right here. and it's in my mind now. this has taken away my peace of mind on these dogs that i lived with for all those years and the loving concern that i gave to them and that they gave to me. >> the new owner told me by phone he's working to get utilities connected to the property again. in an early phone conversation, he says he's considered just closing the cemetery portion
6:05 pm
up their animals and move them elsewhere. he backtracked on that a little bit. if he decides to close it down, that will be a shame. there are animals buried in the cemetery from the 30s. the owner admitted he probably only has contact information for a small number of the animals buried there. i've been covering the story for a year. you better believe i'm sticking to it. i'll let you know if anything happens. our next question is the first one that we posed last friday, why in the world is postal service bolting down mailboxes taking up denver sidewalks. the postal service says this is typical. don wrote in to say he's a quadraplegic. and there's 36 inches of space left on the sidewalk, the minimum under the ada so it's legal. but a disability advocate told us that doesn't make it right.
6:06 pm
would cause an impediment that people who use wheelchairs won't be able to get through, certainly not easily. one of the things that makes it hard, when there's barriers like this, it puts people in the position of kind of always being in the way. and that makes it harder to really truly integrate into society. >> if you see something around town that raises a question, let us know, we'll try to get you an answer. sidewalk might seem like a small issue to you, it's not don. email us next at 9news.com or get our attention with the next. there's something locals in rios tell us they wish the world news. neighbors were violently evicted to make room for olympic construction. cheryl preheim saw houses being knocked down in brazil. this was something happening

happens in communities all over the place. the government takes private land for public use. but usually people know in advance. they give input and they get paid for it. but the locals in rio say thousands of people have been forced out with no say, no notice, no compensation. we found a small group of families fighting to try to change it. the spray painted message reads not all of us have a price. a poor community olympic park rose up across the highway. >> we don't blame the olympics. we blame our government. we feel they created this event for the rich. homes were being knocked down as we arrived in rio. of the hundreds of families, 20 dug in to fight. they hired lawyers. they destroyed lives. there was no reason to destroy this neighborhood. the original olympic park included us but the mayor rejected it.
6:08 pm
place to sleep, sure, but they say it's no longer their community, their home. so the mayor of rio tells us the decisions have been hard. but he says they're for a greater good. he says people have had to be moved and $12 billion spent on infrastructure in brazil. he says in the long run it will help people and help the economy. but kyle, this is an impoed we're talking about the housing of the poorest people here. it's a painfully price for them to pay, thousands of them. >> i feel like i've heard you tell me a similar story like this before. >> reporter: yeah, i remember us talking when i got back from sochi russia, there were neighbors that were right on the black sea for generations, people had lived there, all taken down, these houses to put up olympic park in russia, and six weeks after closing

90 degrees. at least it wasn't 105. that was the record high. that's been the highest temperature ever recorded in denver. it happened in 2005 and 2012. for your headlines this afternoon and evening, we're tracking a few storms, thankfully most of the storms managed to stay to the south of the metro area. closer to the city, we have clouds in the sky and light showers, i'm going to keep the chance for storms in the forecast tonight. not expecting them to turn severe. that could be a different story for my friends on the drop to around 63 degrees. the weather pattern in the next few days will be more hot weather. then on thursday we start to see a transition, cooler weather arriving, and our temperatures gradually cooling in the next several days. tomorrow a hot one, a high of 93, wednesday, 89 degrees. after that temperatures dip into the 80s on thursday, friday, and all the way into the weekend. denver city council president alvis brooks returns

and dealt with the death of his father. he walks into a city hall dealing with contentious issues. we sat down today. one thing that we talk about here on next is that life is not a litany of tragedy. but man i look at the run that you've had recently. >> i'm traditionally an optimist but i walked in and got diagnosed with cancer and the doctor said hey, i can tell you right now that i can tell when a patient is going to make it and when they're going to struggle. and it all attitude. so that just got me thinking that i got to go into this thing just like i was on the football field at the university of colorado, just like i tackle all these big issues in the city and just, you know, kind of get after it. and i did. the blow was my best friend, he passed, but even in that, you know, i'm looking on the bright side, he lived an amazing life, i'm doing all the

>> let's talk about some issues. we've been talking a lot about some visiblish visible issues denver has. the heroin and violence on 16th street mall. would you agree with the mayor's assessment that we don't have an image problem related to those. >> i would say this is an issue that every city downtown, urban core in our country is dealing with. we don't have any ill. there is an image problem. i think most people come to denver and they say, i didn't expect to see someone, you know, laying down on the 16th street mall. why they have that perspective, i have no idea, right? >> as if we'd be immune. >> exactly. but i don't focus on that. i can't worry about the image. i have to attack the issue. i have to make sure that we have a plan around affordable housing.
6:17 pm
people are on the street because they can't stay in a home. those are the things i'm focused on. and not so much on what is our image like? because you can't control that. you can't control what a visitor says about someone from iowa thinks about what denver should look like. >> city council person alvis brooks. it's been 42 years since president richard nixon resigned. we'll talk

it's a sign. we're always on the look out for messages that make you laug no fishing in the toilets at the rio olympics. u.s.a. basketball player posted this bathroom sign on instagram. so leave the toilet fishing aside, it also appears that you're not supposed to put toilet paper in the toilet, puke in the toilet. do whatever this is in the toilet. and you're not supposed to use a urinal like a dog. there were similar signs seen at the sochi games. if you see a similar sign
6:21 pm
email us at #heynext. since you can't stack two dudes on top of each other on a field and run a legal play, i assume this is a subliminal message to those players. i'm sure mike knows. >> i thought sure i was on the show to talk about donald hillary. but you're going to ask some sports. that's good. i'm going to go with mark sanchez and trevor simeon we'll talk about instead. and really that depth chart reveals what we've seen on the field. and that mark sanchez takes a first team rep and then trevor simeon takes a first team rep. and then they alternate. and it's been kind of a surprise really. as this camp has gone on, the longer it goes, the more that trevor simeon seems to be taking a slight lead over mark sanchez, it'll be interesting how it all plays out.
