week looking? it's been 20 months since a driver hit and dragged a denver police officer under his car. that officer-- john adsit -- is now focused on trying to help others. 18 surgeries later and still recovering ... officer adsit wants to assist other first responders critically injured on the job. he was hurt so badly-- the two evidence boxes

accident." adsit had a broken pelvis, broken femur, severed artery, collapsed lung and damage to his eyes. he survived-- thanks to the support of the community and his family. but-- he says it wasn't easy. adsit started a non-profit called 'adsit strong.' it helps other first responders with the physical and mental challenges of surviving an on- duty injury. on september 17th ... he's holding the "adsit strong rise and run 5k." it'll benefit officer tony lopez junior. he's the denver police officer who was shot several times during a traffic stop. there's more information about the run-- on our website 9news- dot-com. state leaders have

signals at a railroad crossing near trinidad. five people died at that crossing in june after their minivan was hit by an amtrak train. 9news reporter colleen ferreira joins us. colleen this was such a sad story. > steve and christine miller were driving their four young daughters to church in june when this happened...the only survivor in this...was one of their daugthers. accoridng to the pueblo chieftain ...the colorado public utilities commision approved a plan last week to have safety signals county road 32. the signals will cost 270 thousand dollars - and it will take up to 6 months for them to be installed. a colorado public utilities commisioner asked the staff to report back every 30 days on the progess of fixing this crossing - other commisioners disagreed on these monthly reports saying the staff doenst have the capability to do this. > there is a public hearing tonight on some other issues... corey whether this issue will come up is yet to be determined. but one thing is for sure... that

lot safer. this election -- voters in colorado will decide on a pretty big issue: whether terminally ill people should be allowed to recevie prescriptions to end their own lives. the "medical aid in dying" measure was certified monday -- it had enough petition signatures to make ballots this fall. it becomes the third citizen petition to make ballots. the other two: a universal health care measure and a higher minimum wage. a deputy is on leave-- accused of attacking his wife. denver police arrested adams county sheriff's deputy dean dominguez after a domestic dispute. it happened at his home near 33rd and oneida on august 10th. in court filings from monday, dominguez says his wife attacked him and then: fell. he filed for divorce and a restraining order as well. police have arrested a man they say shot and killed an imam and his associate as they left a new

monday night. he's been charged with two counts of second degree murder and criminal posession of a weapon. morel had been in custody since sunday night after he hit a bicyclist with his car. they found a gun that matched the one used in the murders. the arrest came on the same day as the funerals for the two victims. deputies with the jefferson county sheriff's office are asking for anyone with information to step forward-- dollars worth of damage to a school. school starts next week at montessori peaks. that's near bowles and kipling. monday, staff spent their day trying to clean up and get ready for the start of the school year. we're heading into "day eleven" of the rio olympics... and some of colorado's best are in the spotlight. boulder's jenny simpson will run in the women's 15- hundred meter tonight. she came in fourth during the semifinals. simpson didn't make

emma coburn took bronze in yesterday's steeplechase. the crested butte native and boulder alum had people cheering her on from a restaurant where she used to work.. coburn is the first u-s woman to medal in the steeplechase event. both simone biles and laurie hernandez medaled on the balance beam yesterday. biles took bronze -- a change from her usual gold. 16-year-old hernandez won the . and veteran aly raisman will continue their quest for medals with their floor routines. also today - women's beach and indoor volleyball will compete. kerri walsh jennings and april ross will play host country brazil in the semifinals. and team u-s-a will face off with japan in a quarterfinals match. and of course - the wonderful matt and cheryl are in rio. coming up later this morning -- rain in rio is making things a little

in the air -- are mostly coming from the "four corners" region. nasa researches say most of the methane in the sky above the southwest - coms from more than 250 methane sources in the four corners region of arizona, colorado, new mexico and utah. they say as much as two-thirds of the methane could be spewing from only about 25 locations. firefighters from across elbert county are being called to help with a fire burning southeast of agate monday. the fire started around sunset and spread quickly to over two thousand acres. it's east of i-70 - where the interstate turns southward between byers and limon. several small departments are coordinating to stop the fire from different directions. as far as we know, it has not damaged or destroyed any buildings. there are wind turbines in that area. we'll have the latest updates as soon as they're released.

an arrest in connection with the clayton fire. 40-year-old damin pashlik is facing 17 counts of arson in connection to the clayton fire and several others in the area. that fire has burned over four- thousand acres and destroyed more than 175 structures. officials say the arson charges he faces will carry additional enhancements due to the destruction of homes and businesses. louisiana state officials surveyed the damage to their state yesterday.. governor john bel edwards toured helicopter. there have been 7 confirmed deaths related to the flooding -- and more than 20- thousand people have been rescued. president obama has declared a major disaster for the state and is providing federal assistance. governor edwards estimated that the damage will exceed the six-million dollar threshold. more and more people are saving for retirement...except for one big group. more and more

some colorado hotels were hit in a multi-state data breach. "that" means-- your personal information is vulnerable. officials say hyatt, sheraton, marriot and westin hotels were hit in several states.

different hotels across the country -- may have collected names, account numbers and credit card information. hotel operator "h-e-i hotels and resorts" says-- they'v fixed the issue, now. bank officials say if you think you might be at risk -- be vigilant when it comes to checking your statements. the complete list includes nine states... and washington d-c. officials think the breach lasted from last december to late june. americans are starting to save more for retirement. a new bank rate dot com study shows that 21 percent of working americans say they're saving more than they did last year. that's the highest level reported in the last five years. as a general rule -- financial experts say you should save ten to 15 percent of your total income -- starting in your 20s -- but it's different for everyone. one group that's not enjoying the retirement bandwagon -- millennials.

the coronary arteries of nearly six-thousand adults over three years. those who lived in neighborhoods without easy access to healthy food stores - were more likely to show early signs of heart disease. the people with the least amount of risk -- lived within a mile of stores selling fresh food. here in the denver metro area -- the u-s department of agriculture mapped out areas with food access issues. the areas in green are considered to be "low access areas" -- which means healthy food is at least a mile away in urban areas -- and 10 miles away in rural areas. looks like longevity runs in the family. your parents' age-- directly benefits your chances for a longer, healthier life. a british study found that your chances of survival go up 17 percent for every decade a parent lives - past the age of 70. the study also found that having parents that live longer, reduces your risk of developing chronic diseases later in life. gopros are
