for very long. here's a look at the forecast for the next several days. the yellow line will be the forecast high that we've got going. that pink line is a record but not the record that you're used to. these are going to depict some of the coldest days in august that we've had for this week so the coolest daytime highs that we have seen for those records. we got a big cooloff today low 90s -- tomorrow, middle 80. we'll drop into the 70s, upper 60s and low 70 by the way, the record for coolest day on this saturday is saturday and will be close to record-setting for one of the coldest august days we have seen and as for the rain, chances for showers will increase,, the cool front will push in tomorrow afternoon. the best chance will show up on

in a few minutes. >> thank you very much. people who work on the 16th street small worry about what they have there. people have seen drugs, crime, and violence, real problem for denver's top tourist destination. colleen ferrara joins us. today they will announce a plan to make it safer down there. >> reporter: we have been hearing about that 240-step plan, and today, it's taken step further, introducing this private security firm to make this feel safer. the 16th street mall has restaurants, people walking out here, street shows, all sorts of things to keep people entertained but on the spectrum, you have unsavory or

not-so-family-friendly activities. it was so shocking it happened out here. a man walk on 16th street mall hitting people with a pvc pipe. we later found out much more about him but that's the image a lot of us say, gosh, has it really reached this point? denver police added more officers but today, we'll see security taken one step further. the downtown denver partnership committed $1 million in private fundfo including private security for the first time. the guards won't be armed or have the authority to ticket people or arrest people, but they will be extra eyes to help people out, enforce the laws out here, to some extent let people know what they're doing right or wrong. robert white told us in the past that loitering and panhandling aren't crimes so there's little officers can do to stop that, stop people asking for money. it's when those situations

come like people touching other people or profanity taken out of hand, intimidating language, that's when they can do something. will private security guards make people safer? that's for you to decide. we'll have to wait and see, corey. >> hopefully it makes some difference there. we sure hope so, colleen. thank you. in november, colorado voters have an unusual ballot measure waiting for them. the raise the bar purpose is to make it harder to change a measure that would require a constitutional amendment to pass by 55%, not 50%. it would raise the required number of signatures from 98,000 to 2% of the registered voters in the senate district. there are five days left in the 2016 summer olympic games and our 9news team are finishing strong.

recent involvementses with the police led to a requests for a review. >> the mayor of commerce city made the requests for the review, following a series of questionable events following police which city leaders fear could undermine the public's trust in the police department. in may, kevin lord pleaded guilty to stage his own shooting. he previously told investigators he was shot by a man during a traffic stop and pleaded guilty to a felony and misdemeanor. john reinhardt is facing inappropriately during traffic stops. this july, the mayor, city manager, and special police chief signed a letter requesting a u.s. justice department review of the police department in commerce city, mentioning the department had undergone some changes under its previous chief but city leaders wanted help to continue to reform the department. today the justice department will speak about the investigation requests and the next steps in this. now, we're expecting to hear from the acting u.s. attorney

department of justice. the announcement is set for 10:30 this morning. >> we'll see what happens. t., thanks. another surprising move by donald trump. a big switch-up to some of his top campaign aides. we'll talk about that and we'll take a closer look at some of the seemingly last-minute changes for his campaign but first, let's check in with becky -- amelia. >> we're expecting dry day with afternoon storms. in rio, dry, 70 degrees, 83% humidity. temperatures today will be warming up into the middle to upper 80s by 11:30 this afternoon. wind will be calm out of the north, shifting east, 5 to 10 miles per hour. the next couple of days do bring some changes. in fact, once we get into thursday, highs into the upper 70s.

them in a crash. there's a tree blocking intersection of 83 so essentially the extension of parker road all the way to the east side of woodmore and monument. the highway closed at 105 so please use some alternate routes.

some 18,000 acres, starting overnight as a brushfire, but by sunset, 80,000 people were on notice to possibly evacuate. dozens of structures, many of them homes, have burned to the ground as firefighters battle high temperatures and high wind fanning the flames. california is expecting another hot day today and at least seven nearby communities are under evacuation orders. big changes are being made in donald trump's campaign ahead of a major foreign leadership team today. conservative media personality bite barth's steve bannon will be involved and kelly ann conway is the new campaign manager. his is bringing chris christie to a classified briefing with the director of intelligence

situation better than when they started. republican lawmakers will look through note from hillary clinton's fbi interview about her e-mail situation. she has been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing but republicans still want her prosecuted. >> it wasn't simply a mistake. this went on for years. >> let the public see what the fbi decides to let them see. >> clinton was interviewed at fbi headquarters last announced the agency would not recommend prosecution. after months of staying quiet, troy gardner is supporting donald trump now. the senator got into a twitter battle with trump in the past but says it's fortunate elect the entire republican ticket. every seat in the house and 34 seats in the 100-member senate are on the ballot. november elections will decide whether the republicans keep control of both chambers.

weather forecast now. becky joins us with that -- a big change-up is on the way. >> a big change-up starting tomorrow. we'll have cooler temperatures arriving in denver and right now, partly cloudy skies in denver, a few more clouds over fort collins but a gorgeous sunrise. if you haven't checked the view out the window, you'll love what you see, 63 degrees in denver with 50s up north through port collins and greeley. our friends in the plains 50 and 60s with 30 through the mountains. across the state, dry, a big change from six or seven hours ago where showers and storm were out of the eastern plain. we have a break until 11:00 when isolated storms will build into our mountain and become more scattered through the day and after 3:00, 3:00 30, it will climb east of i-25 but few and far between with just chances for isolated storms along and east of the interstate.

chances of rain pick up with temperatures start to cool off around here. a few showers are not expected to be severe but could produce some pockets of heavy rain, especially in central and southern mountains. we're anywhere from .75 inches to an inch of rain falling in a short period of time. temperatures in the mountains in the 60s and 70s. we climb to 90 in denver, 91 greeley, 94 fort collins, 90s on the eastern plain and on the western slope, a hot day. sunny and hot this afternoon, storms may cool a few of us off. it will end up dropping to 59- degree and tomorrow, 86 the high, chance of storms in the afternoon, better chance on friday with a high of just 80 and then we've got small chances for isolated storms over the weekend as mild temperatures reach the 70s. >> thank you, becky. we're going to go live to 40th and york and we're taking

plane intersection, one of the stops between union station and d.i.a. according to rtd, which we noted in the 4:00 a.m. hour this morning, they're experiencing severe delays for riders making their way to and from the airport. now, the issue here, they're just described as operational difficulties across the trains, including the tracks, and the time frame was between about 4:30 all the way until noon today so if you're planning on using the train, an point in time but we have a problem here across 270 and york. it's a south and eastbound major crash, one left lane blocked, squeezing by south and eastbound. police activity on the opposing side of thely in effect so if you're using 270, if that's typical of your route or an alternate to avoid delays regarding train to the plane, just don't plan on it.

well, we're working to learn more about a man shot by police after a carjacking investigation. this started in arapahoe county, ended in denver. one man was shot, two arrested

tuesday afternoon. investigators say one of them pulled out a gun and the officer hit him. he is expected to survive. millions of dollars of heroin, cocaine and weapons are off the street, and 17 people are in custody. the dea, denver police, and drug task force has been working to bust this drug ring for a year. it was importing heroin from mexico and selling it by the pound on it provided hundreds, if not thousands, for users. >> in the past years, the number of heroin overdoses has increased almost 350% and we're not talking nationwide but here in colorado. >> the heroin had a street value of more than $2 million. eight more suspects have been identified but not arrested. sky 9 launched to get a look over the morning drive. we'll go to amelia for the
