afternoon which is why i believe it is slightly cooler than yesterday. a gorgeous day over downtown denver. and driving in, especially in the next hour, as the sun begins to come up, you will be dealing with sun glare, if you have a west to east commute, as temperatures move into the 70s. clouds start picking up, shortly after lunchtime today. which is why we are going to hold it in the 80s. yes, there will be one or two isolated storms around the area. there will be more wind and lightninth upwards of a tenth of an inch of rain. very light showers possible tomorrow. not impressed with the rain tomorrow. but temperatures will be knocked back in the 70s with the front that comes through late this evening and early tomorrow morning. and the showers pick up slightly on thursday and friday. but as corey noted, the temperatures start picking up into the weekend as well and i was thinking about one of the more fun events we have going on this weekend. so far it looks like storms on

the foothills but i will keep an eye on them throughout the week. right now, broncos/rams, looking just fine saturday night. >> sounds like a plan, marty. thank you. 5:31. as we get across town today, most parts of town really looking off to a nice beginning. green lights across most areas. d.i.a., out across commerce city, and downtown, as well as the dtc, checking clear. the one problem that we do have is out across the lakewood drive. around the crown hill cemetery. and the southbound lanes of wadsworth are closed down completely now at 26th avenue now crews are just arriving on the scene. lakewood police department just sent out this information, southbound wadsworth, no estimate when the road will reopen but the surrounding area not looking too bad at all. 6th avenue, nine minutes, gold ton i-25. and alternate southbound, sheridan, right now, running very light and connects you directly towards 6th avenue. once you get on the highway, tarhonda, doing just fine. >> good, good to know that, thank you, amelia. it is 5:32 right now.

presidentialcabusiness in colorado. he is planning a stop in lakewood today, it is a private meeting. 9 news reporter jessica oh is live at aerospace this morning with a look at who he is planning to meet. jessica recall. >> reporter: tarhonda, he plans on meeting with local and small business owners, and a round table discussion not open to the public. of course this is part of a big bush for the democratic ticket as hillary clinton is expected to make her announcement on how she plans to jump start small businesses later here outside primus aerospace, tim kaine will take a quick tour of the facility 9:00 to 9:30 before sitting down with the business owners and we mentioned that he is talking about clinton's plan for the economy. obviously, that is a broad subject but we know in part they will talk about the entrepreneurs and how to help them out of college debt and also to talk about how to make it easier for small businesses to obtain things like loans and licenses. we did mention that local business leaders of course will

table discussion. we know two of them so far. and one made the top 50 startups to watch list this year. and another is the owner of one of the few companies in colorado that handles solar systems. and tarhonda, we will feature and profile both of them for you, coming up in the next hit. but all together a quiet start to the morning. a few cars filter into primus aerospace but so far very quiet ahead of vice presidential candidate visit. donald trump planning a trip here on thursday to talk about immigration but postponed his denver speech. some say changes at the top of his campaign team are leading to some changes in trump's immigration proposals. and checking on the polls right now, this morning, a new one is out from nbc news, survey monkey, and that poll, donald trump is trailing hillary clinton by 8 points. it is 5:34 right now. today, president obama will visit the flood-damaged areas of southern louisiana and be in baton rouge, later this

the area. parts of the state are still under two feet of water. after 30 inches of rain and flooding hit that state last week. and 13 people have died. tens of thousands have banished from their homes. >> what the president has focused on is the response from the ground and the people's whose lives in louisiana have been turned upside down by this terrible flooding event. >> it will get to you of the frustrated at times. it is so much, you know. >> it was my life. i grew all my life. >> president obama of course was on vacation with his family until now. critics say he should have cut that trip short to go to louisiana last week. but louisiana's governor says he was glad the president waited because a visit from the commander in chief would have tied up resources last week, when people were still being rescued. new this morning, two people are dead, after a head- on crash from highway 34, in loveland. police say a pick-up truck

smaller car. you can see the truck and the car smashed together. and the windshields broken and the front just crumpled. he and a woman in the other car both died and police are looking into whether alcohol was involved. the head of the denver sheriff's department wants to take a closer look at managing records. several deputies reportedly released inmates too early or too late of the denver post reports four deputies have been punished in the past month. now, two more deputies will join the records department, to in colorado, with local mosquito, not the culprit. and weld county says four people have travel-related zekea. and statewide, 21 coloradans have been infected while visiting other places. experts say colorado is too high and dry for the type of mosquitoes carrying the zika virus to live but they still recommend you take extra precaution when you travel to the affected areas. there have been seven confirmed cases of west nile in weld

spotted in nederland is headed to a new home. you remember this guy? we talked about him a couple of weeks ago. the lemur accused of biting a 2- year-old child. and the child was not seriously injured. the daily camera in boulder says the primate named oliver is heading to a wildlife sanctuary in florida in an eng dangered primate foundation in jacksonville. his former owner was cited for having an aggressive animal. >> oliver has a new home. and in a city where you see spray pain t building, sometimes it is legal art and other times it is a crime. and outside of the city, it is just plain wrong. that's what these vandal disto disto -- vandals did to lookout mountain and another guy saw the vandals and captured the video on social media. hoping that they get punished. >> tagging the sides of a mark in a national monument or a national park or any kinds of facilities like that, is worse

vista and slida. and fair play, showers. and glenwood springs and aspen and carbondale. the one area we are concerned with is south and west of gunnison. with a flash flood watch. it starts at noon today, from montrose and south. >> all right, someone likely started the fire burning in thousands of acres in northern colorado in the wyoming border. we don't know how the fire was human-caused but they say now they believe it was. the beaver creek fire started two months ago. this is a look at the damage since june 19. fire crews are still working to protect buildings in that area. while remote areas are being allowed to burn. and you know, they don't expect this fire to be completely contained until october. so far, it has burned 37,000 acres, and more than 200 firefighters are still there, and working the fire lines.

exploding in size. the cherry road fire burned more than 30,000 acres in just about a day in southeast oregon. officials say windy weather caused the fire to spread quickly. and it is in a large plume of smoke in the sky. and people can see it as far away as boise, idaho. the fire is only about 10% contained. fire spread quickly across the northwest this summer but in the center of a lot of destruction in washington, one family is thanking a man for saving everything they had. the problem, they don't know who that man is home. it is whole and unburned. while the mother-in-law's home next door is nothing but rubble. they say a man named roy used his own private water truck and saved the house. >> when we turned in our driveway, oh, my gosh, we just were so -- it was standing. everything was burned to the ground. but our house. >> our house was saved by one person. he was amazing. his name is roy.

good morning, we are looking at this officer, at my weapon, with his wep -- at my window with my weapon drawn and in mice face and i motioned to him, i am deaf. >> deaf community leaders say intensive training should be required for officers to help them to communicate with people who are deaf or hard of police arrested two women in massachusetts. after they reportedly tried to rob a nun at knife point. police say the nun was walking down the street near her con vent. and the nun reported a woman tried to take her satchel but there was nothing in except rosary beads and a key and small memento. a woman took the beads and ran off. another woman was on the lookout. police found the suspects but not the rosary beads. the nun does not want to press

them. hard liquor is no longer going to be allowed at undergraduate off-campus parties or on campus parties, i should say, at stanford university. the school announced the new alcohol policy to all new and returning undergrad students. and the changes come after former stanford swimmer brock turner was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman. both said they were pretty drunk at a campus party. and the judge sentenced turner to six months in jail, people thought that wasn't enough. and now, beer and wine will still be allowed at oncampus parties but hard alcohol will only be allowed at parties hosted by graduate students and only in the form of mixed drinks. around here today, monsoon wind patterns still focusing on the midwest. but an interesting wrinkle. with the cold front, coming in, from the west, we are beginning to see some moisture in out of

start in aurora with a couple of problems, it is lakewood. there is a major water main break. or major in the sense that it has shut down a major road. southbound wadsworth is closed at 26th avenue and sheridan is a good alternate route and lackwide police department has let us know about this issue and we are still looking for more details how major it is and how many hours it could take before it reopens. >> 270 across commerce city. and speeds in the upper 50s and lower 60s. out across your commute to the airport. we are looking estimated at about 15 minutes.

the easiest way to get kids to avoid smoking might be just making it a lot more expensive to smoke and in november, voters in colorado will decide on a proposal that would triple the current tobacco tax. a pack of cigarettes would cost about a $1.75 more if the new bill passes. supporters say it things like tobacco education, and student loan repayment for health professionals in rural areas. they say the main purpose, though, is to stop young people from smoking. >> tobacco tamp is one of the most effective ways to prevent youth from starting smoking in the first place. >> it makes me want to quit. actually, yes, smoking is an expensive habit. if it goes up, i will probably slow down. >> a good idea. a business owner who declined
