chilly. but it is a gorgeous morning. clouds build this afternoon. and phenomenal sunrise. pre-sun-rice, i should say. the twilight that we have going on around here. and southwestern colorado. light showers have started. they will get heavier and heavier as the day goes on. through the san juans. all the way to the gunnison river. and then explodes into central colorado during the evening and we will see a few thunderstorms around here, and especially this evening, and the clouds will precede them, though, and that will and moderate to heavy rain, from summit county, to the southwest. and especially in extreme southwestern colorado, with a flash flood watch in effect. from noon to 10:00. around here today, clearing skies. clear skies for now. it will be replaced with clouds this afternoon. and yes, a couple of storms around here. but appeal yakker at least i think we -- amelia, at least i think we will stay below 90s today. >> sky 9 is up and headed to the water main break across

cemetery. it is the southbound lanes of wadsworth. shut down at 26th. and lakewood police department. they let us know about this issue, they are still working to let us know how big the pipe was, that will determine of course, how much repair needs to be done and how long we could see these lane closures. but right now, it is dark out there. traffic is pretty light. but it could impact us. sheridan is a good alternate route. out we go through the remainder of the morning rush where things are fairly calm and quiet. anywhere across the drive, to downtown d.i.a. all the way from aurora, out to the and calling it green lights across the board. the views outside here, looking fantastic. our i-25 and 8th avenue cam, shows the city waking up and heading toward the stadium curve, but right now, the speeds are on the high side and same for the north end i-25 around highway 7, checking clear, to the north around e- 470. tarhonda? >> thank you. new overnight, a man driving the wrong way on highway 34 crashed head-on to another car. it happened late last night

driver was going westbound in the eastbound lanes. and he collided with a smaller car. and both the woman inside that car and ?ethe truck driver died loveland police are still looking at whether alcohol was a factor in this crash. today, vice presidential candidate tim kaine is in colorado. hosting a round table event with small business leaders in our state. and 9 news reporter jessica oh joins us live this morning from the site of the event in lakeland and what is exactly happened there j yesterday, the vice presidential candidate was in vegas seeking the support of labor workers and today, a big push for a clinton small business plan, is what brings tim kaine to denver. so the venue is getting a little busier now. we are seeing more cars filter in. we actually just saw the secret service, arrive as well. and so this private event, by the way, begins around 9:00 to 9:30, and first the virginia senator is going to take a quick tour of this facility. before he sits down with local

will be a part of this discussion. so mayor riaz, called himself a serial entrepreneur, the founder of skin droid, that prevents workout injuries in athletes and named one of the top 50 startups of the year. alex valdez, the founder of go mark solar, and one. the few companies in colorado that does everything from installing solar systems and we know other businesses will be a part of the discussion. you may remember guys this is a big push campaign, the past two times hillary clinton has been in colorado this summer both in june and august, she made it a point to meet with small business owners and also with entrepreneurs to go over her plans for the future. >> jessica, thanks for the preview. appreciate that. donald trump continues to back off immigration promises that he made in his campaign. his campaign manager signaled that trump is going to soften his position on deporting an estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in this country

colorado, nevada and oregon this week. he was supposed to be here thursday. we haven't heard yet if or when he will reschedule. in a new nbc poll out this morning, hillary clinton is still holding a national lead over donald trump. 50 to 42%. this poll was taken on august 15 through the 21st. sampling about17,400 adults. police are looking for the driver who rammed a denver police department cruiser with a stolen truck. the truck he is shouldn't be too hard to spot. they say it has black flames painted on it. it all started monday morning, when officers approached the driver in a stolen black chevy pick-up truck at peoria and 39th avenue. the driver hit the police cruiser and took off. luckily nobody was injured. officers found the black truck, abandoned at a lot at evans and holly. surveillance video shows the driver pulled up next to another truck there and then

be encouraging homeless people to register to vote. wayne williams is scheduled to reach out to homeless around colfax avenue today. and joining him are staff members who are certified to run voter registration. as well as interpreters who will be fluent in spanish, vietnamese, and cambodian. the colorado built gozar satellite is finally complete and almost ready for launch in november. this is video of crews testing and building it summer. crews reached a huge milestone on monday when it comes to the spacecraft. they shipped it to kennedy space center. it will undergo final testing there. before heading into space. 9 news reporter colleen ferreira is live outside lockheed martin right now. colleen, i would imagine the satellite arrived all in one piece, right? >> reporter: yes, it made it to florida. thank goodness, in one piece. the launch date is set for november 4. 73 days away.

from lockheed martin after they touched down in florida. they are thrilled to finally reach this point. guys, this is a huge milestone to be able to ship this colorado-made satellite across the country to florida. so how do you ship a satellite across the country? take a look at this. i will walk you through, step by step. they ship to florida on monday. in a c-5 air force cargo plane. from buckley air force base. this is the biggest cargo plane the air force has. it took them hours to load the satellite and a semi into that plane. the satellite was built lockheed martin so they had to ship it to florida in a clean room bubble tube. it won't come out of that clean room until it goes into space in november. and this gosar, geo stationary operation environmental satellite and collect high res images of weather patterns and severe storms and help us predict those storms. in return, it will contribute to more accurate and reliable weather forecasts allowing people like marty to inform us

out there. it is a colorado made satellite. homegrown right here at lockheed martin. united launch alliance here in colorado will have a very big part in the launch coming up in november and you know what, it is so interested, that when the satellite goes into space, it can gather data every 30 seconds and that's just a game changer for you. and for weather forecasters around the world and the country. >> a lot of folks think we have this instantaneously data right at our fingertips and nothing could be further from the geo spatial lightning mapper that will be able to do not only cloud-to-ground lightning but in-cloud lightning as well. that is the technology we don't even have, right now. and it is going to make a big difference. and imagery like this, for instance, water vapor will be much more higher resolution, than what you are seeing right now, but it is high enough to see some dry weather, in wyoming, and some moisture, moving into southwestern colorado. and that is why we have flash

dry here in the east this morning. very light showers. right along the wyoming -- not wyoming, but utah/colorado border and a new disturbance moving up out of arizona. we will kick off stronger storms later in the day. what we are seeing right now is not very impressive. and storms overnight are in central nebraska now. heavy rain there. and sunshine through lunchtime. cloudy, pretty much after that. and through the afternoon and consistent basis, during the day today, from kenosha pass, through clear creek county, up into the estes park area, and we could see some showers here, especially after 5:00 in the evening, not going to be very heavy, but we will see a few areas with measurable rain up to a tenth of an inch. the heavier stuff stays in the foothills, where temperatures will be in the 60s and 70s. and i would like to see low to mid-80s here. and progressively warmer the farther east you go. it will be drier over the

county, and the front range mountains and south and west, down through the arkansas valley, and all the way into the san luis valley. moderate to heavy rain in those places today, which is why we are concerned about flooding in the southwest. and 80s, 90s, in the east. and 50s and 60s with all of those showers in the mountains. and it is the clouds that pick up and temperatures level off in the mid-80s today. we develop some thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. and not especially heavy here, but i think as we the day tomorrow, we are going to see cooler temperatures beginning to move into the area. much lighter showers tomorrow than today. they are not going to be very good at all. and showers on thursday and friday, begin to pick up, before they back into the foothills, this weekend. sky 9 over a water main break in lackwood near the crown hill cemetery. southbound lanes of wadsworth are closed down completely right at 26th. and 23rd there. and basically that stretch, southbound, it will be blocked

which could last for the next several hours and most likely will. southbounders, you can use sheridan as your alternate route. and northbound wadsworth getting by just fine. the c-dot camera, a big problem on the northbound stretch of i- 25, as you make your way across prospect road, heading up toward fort collins and the northbound stretch of i-25 here, extremely delayed because of this crash, it is in the median, of the drive, and as far as the backups along northbound, they will start out around herma here at prospect. no lanes are blocked. but it is a big time curiosity factor there. and here is where the wreck sits up to the north on the exit ramp toward prospect itself, the backups extend toward harmony road and the slowdowns across the southbound stretch of wadsworth, not too bad for now and we could see them build up and we are going to keep a close eye on this one as far as the rest of the drive and so far, pretty quiet in most spots around the city. >> thanks, amelia, for checking in on that. 6:15 right now.

welcome back. friends and family are trying to change the way police operate after a defer man was shot and killed by a -- a deaf man was shot and killed by a police officer. the shooting happened in north carolina. friends and family lit killed by officers after failing to stop during a traffic stop. he led officers to his home steps away from the front door and police say there was some type of encounter and harris was shot and killed. and deaf family members say things like this happen but it didn't have to end so tragically. >> i pulled over. and within a few seconds, the officer is at my window with his weapon drawn and in my face. and it is like i motioned to him, i'm deaf, i'm deaf. >> now, family and the deaf

public. and it has been, excuse me, a big push for the democratic tick. as hillary clinton of course, is expected to make her announcement and her jump start plan for small businesses, later on today. and here at primus aerospace, tim kaine will quickly take a tour of the facility and start a rounds table discussion around 9:00 this morning. we mentioned they are going to talk about clinton's plans for the economy. and of course, we know that is a broad topic. and it ranges debt and making it easier for small businesses to obtain things like licenses an loans, and they're both topics that hillary clinton has talked about in denver, in the past. again, things are starting to pick up here outside primus aerospace. we are noticing more cars entering the venue as well. inned to the business owners, congressman and senator,

be in on the discussion. >> and hillary clinton has jokes on the jimmy kimmel show on the never-ending e-mail scandal. but 15,000 more emails have been released and those emails were deleted from the server but recovered by the fbi. and they apparently outline how big donors to the clinton foundation got access to her while she was secretary of state. through clinton's top aide. 6:35 right now. donald trump seems to be changing his promises about immigration that he earlier in his campaign. the campaign manager has signaled that trump is going to soften his position on deporting an estimated 11 million illegal immigrants this this country already. and trump now says he would separate the illegal immigrants into two categories. but he also blasted what he sees as hillary clinton's immigration plan. >> hillary clinton's plan amounts to total and absolute,

never called for totally open borders. in fact, she has talked about increasing border security. with his change in immigration plans, trump canceled visits in colorado, nevada, and oregon. and he was supposed to be here on thursday, but he hasn't said when he will reschedule. coloradans will soon have to decide whether to raise the tobacco tax. the proposal that made the november ballot would triple the current tax. a pack of cigarettes would cost $1.75, more if the passes. and supporter says it could raise $315 million, helping to pay for things like tobacco education and student loan repayment for health professionals that are in rural areas. and they say the main purpose is to stop young people from smoking. and a business owner who declined to go on camera told 9 news on the phone, that he worries it will shut his tobacco and cigar shop down. the last time colorado raised the tobacco tax was back in 2004, when the tax went from 20

pack. it is now 6:36. we all know how frustrating it can be to find a parking space at certain spots in denver. you know, during that whole circle the block thing. the city council is trying to give us some help. they are requiring developers to create offstreet parking if they are constructing new buildings on small lots. normally, new buildings on small lots don't have to include offstreet parking. so this could be a big help to a lot of people. the council will decide whether to make the rule permanent. after studying it for the next seven months. the city of decided to temporarily stop issuing permits for so-called garden court town homes. one of them was recently completed in cherry creek north. and there are plans to build others. some people complain that they look too much like apartment complexes. and the cherry creek neighborhood association says the structures destroy the character of the neighborhood. >> this is really a contrivance. it sneaks in under a very vague

and as written, all you need is about a 15-foot car with doors opening, on to the corridor, and that makes it a garden court. and that doesn't fit with our neighborhood at all. >> the council member wayne new says the problem stems from the ambiguity in the ordinance. he says it allows to much flexibility for developers. the council will review the ordinance during the next 12 months. a dui saturation weekend served its purpose. state patrolan agencies got quite a few impaired drivers off the vete. 18 total dui arrests were made, including one that stands out more than the others. lakewood pd picked up 46-year- old michael wily for his seventh dui arrest. it is his fifth in colorado. and this time, he was one and a half times over the legal limit. riley also faces charges for wreckless driving, driving with a suspendedded license, and not

that he was taken off the street again, before someone was very seriously hurt, or killed. we, in law enforcement, continue to do what we can, and that is to look for them, stop them, arrest them, and get them off the street. >> arvada police, wheatridge pd and the jefferson county sheriff's office also participated in saturday's saturation patrols. russia cannot compete in the para-olympic games in rio de janiero. it is part of their punishment for program. a hearing ending with that decision happened yesterday in rio. the court decided the international para-olympic committee decision from a few weeks ago did not break any rules and russia's appeal did not contradict the claims that were made against them. it is now 6:39. this morning, the associated press is waiting for a response from wikileaks founder julian assange. it comes amid allegations that wikileaks has been violating the privacy of hundreds of people. according to the associated

department is now going through an audit of the records management. at least four deputies have made this mistake. at least one of them has done it several times. according to the denver post, the 2015 report recommended that the department consider shortening shifts, and hiring civilian superiors for the records phapltd unit. the audit also -- management unit. the audit also follows deputies for using excessive force. vice president joe biden has a big task ahead of him this week as he travels to turkey to try country. tomorrow's visit comes as turkey's demanding the united states extradite a cleric who lives in pennsylvania. turkey thinks that he is behind last month's attempted coup there. another hot topic, the growing differences in how conflicts in the middle east are being handled, especially the syrian conflict. >> there should be a seriousness, an ernestness on the part of the american officials that they are taking

a clear start to the east. a few clouds in western colorado. storm system out of colorado headed up to the four corners, will kick off very heavy thunderstorms in that part of the state by lunchtime and then those will move all the way through park county and up along the in so it is a dry start here, with light showers to the south. and we begin to cloud up here, as thunderstorms develop in the foothills. by early this afternoon. they will stay in the foothills for the most part during the afternoon. and then this evening especially after dinnertime, a few light thundershowers for those living below 7,000 feet on the front range. rain is unimpressive down here. the lucky few get a tenth of an inch. slightly higher than that, and a brief downpour, but most of

right up along the continental divide, and west. especially from summit county west and kenosha pass to the west. 80s for our highs today. and clouds in the afternoon are going to put a lid on those temperatures. and the thunderstorms, down south, moderate to heavy in southwestern colorado, so durango, silverton, surrounding areas, and moving up to the arkansas valley. very heavy rain around buena vista and salida, and fair play with some it will lock itself in there through the central part of the state a good part of the afternoon and tonight. which is why we're anticipating very heavy rain in the central part of the state from a quarter to an inch of rain during the day. and it is just dry. and hot. over northeastern colorado. pretty much east of the metro area. we are going to be very warm with temperatures in the low 90s. 80s here with the clouds by lunchtime, and extremely cool. not extremely cool, but much cooler than here in mountain

will be a cloudy wet day in the mountains by noon and beyond. cloudy here late in the day. isolated wind and thunder for us during the afternoon, and a couple of evening thunderstorms and light showers. very light rain tomorrow. but it will be cooler around here. two days in the 70s. and we start to see the showers retreat. and head back into the mountains and foothills over the weekend. as our temperatures go back to the mid-80s. >> thanks, marty. sky 9 is over 225, and the i-25 split. they are close to an mississippi and 225, which cleared out very quickly and typical slowdowns along 225, near parker road, southbound, especially coming in toward dtc. let's go outside now to the c- dot camera and view the north end of our commute. up towards fort collins. we have a slowdown because of two separate crashes. northbound, one near prospect and one to the north of the prospect exit. all of this, stacking up a couple of miles of delays here. and look at the backups. the cars just really crawling through. a couple miles per hour.

approach to that crash. coming back into the denver metro drive, things have been fairly calm and quiet across the city and a water main break southbound along wadsworth at 23rd and shut down at 26th coming down to the scene of the cleanup and crews are there and digging a big hole and start the big repairs and last for the next several hours and northbound lanes of wadsworth still remain open. and drive times downtown to the tech center, looking okay, and 16 minutes northbound and 18 minutes southbound and the st causing any problems for southbound commuters from colorado and northbound traffic is doing okay. >> love to see that green at this i.t. morning for sure. >> in and out and gone. investigators in texas think it is the job of professionals. $250,000 worth of wheels and tires stolen from a dealership. take a look. not a tire in sight in this dealership in tyler texas. the thieves came in and cut the lights and made their move.

they are professionals. >> by all of the methods that they used, it usually indicates that they are a professional ring hitting randomly. and they just came through tyler and hit us. >> a different dealership in the same town was hit by the same type of crime in 2014. 20 cars were affected. and that robbery, no one has been arrested. deputies in jefferson county are looking for two people caught on camera, tagging rocks on lookt of them, in the act, on saturday. handed it over to the sheriff's department. the sheriff's office says though it may seem minor, this is a serious offense. they also say they appreciate the video. but don't recommend approaching people you don't know because you don't know, right? >> you never know. >> right. new overnight, police are investigating a deadly crash, it happened late last night on highway 34, just outside of loveland. and police say a truck was going westbound, in the

and two people died. and someone from each car involved. investigators are looking at whether alcohol was a factor in the crash. we are learning more about the beaver creek fire burning in northern colorado. investigators originally said lightning sparked this fire. and now they are saying a person likely started it. and it has been burning since june. the beaver creek fire has burned more than 37,000 acres, near the colorado/wyoming border. it is 53% contained. driver who his a dpd cruiser and drove off. it happened monday morning when officers approached the driver in a stolen black chevy pick-up truck and it was later found abandoned in a lot. and surveillance video shows the driver pulled up to another truck and stole that. police say the driver may be in a 1998 white ford f-250 with black flames painted on the

call 911. 15,000 more e-mails from hillary clinton's serve ver been released. the e-mails released by a watch dog group were deleted but the fbi recovered them, revealing big donors to the clinton foundation and how they got access to clinton while secretary of state. and some e-mails outlined requests made by the donors but they didn't always get what they wanted. donald trump is changing his view on immigration and now wants to separate illegal immigrants to ones deported immediately and then everyone else, who according to trump would have to go through the process of existing immigration laws. that's a stark difference from statements he made at the beginning of his campaign, to deport all 11 million illegal immigrants. a new nbc news survey monkey poll out this morning shows that hillary clinton is still holding a national lead over donald trump. 50 to 42%. and this poll was taken on august 15. through the 21st.
