do you have a commute that takes you through the late 6:00, and 7:00 hour, you are going to need that. high weed pollen going for us now. and some decent rain yesterday. a few spots didn't get all that much but in the central part of town through arvada west through lakewood and golden, more than a quarter of an inch in a lot of locations. so that knocks us out of the top five driest. it doesn't really take much now. only0.17. still an abnormally dry month of august. >> dry across the state. and thunderstorms off to the north. we are anticipating some storms, during the afternoon today. and 2:00, 3:00, 4:00, storms start rolling through, and last into the early part of the evening, and light rain goes until midnight tonight. so it is going to be another day with showers, adding to our total rainfall. kind of nice to have a little bit of moisture. it has been dry so far this month. >> oh, yes. i think it is super nice. and great weather.

9 news reporter tarhonda thomas is outside one of the banks he is accused of hitting here in denver and his spree began back in may. >> reporter: it began in may. and he has been very ambitious since. this is the most recent bank he hit. this is a tcf bank at broadway and evans. he ran in here on tuesday, police say, handed the teller a note, got the money and then ran straight out to broadway. let's give you another look at this guy, because police want to catch him, i will give you his resume, if you will. starting in may, he hit u.s. bank on 1248 south broadway and then went to the key bank on speer in june. and the u.s. bank on 38th avenue in june. and the ves per bank on speer in june. five locations. in just a matter of months. police say they know who this man is. they identify him as shawn scott. they say he is six feet tall. he weighs 150 pounds. and thin built guy. wearing a baseball cap and dark

investigators say that glider bob saunders was piloting the fixed wing glider, when it crashed wednesday, in prospect basin. saunders owned and operated a glider tour company, and the other man hasn't been identified yet, but we do know that he is from colorado. just because a wildfire has stopped burning, doesn't mean the danger has gone away. heavy rains in fremont county caused flooding along the hayden pass burn scar. it washed out a bridge and shut down county road 40 for a with flood damage to their homes. but the community is staying strong. >> everybody is willing to help a neighbor. and you will probably see that, helping somebody else, before they help themselves. and that is just huge. huge lesson to have up -- huge blessing to have up here. >> the damage to homes and properties is still getting checked out. luckily no one was hurt. voter upset with the primary process in colorado are going to get to decide in

says two ballot measures got enough petitions, got enough signatures on petitions, to make it on to the ballot, and one would get rid of the presidential caucuses and replace them with primaries. colorado used to have primaries and it was changed. and this will change it back. another would let unaffiliated voters pick a candidate in those primaries. this year, democrats complain of long waits and packed caucus sites and republicans didn't get to pick a candidate at all. and delegates were awarded later high clouds over the area now, and chilly temperatures out there. and we are in the 50s and 40s, up and down the front range. and slowly making our way into the 60s by mid morning. and as we get later in the day, we are anticipating several areas of thunderstorms, throughout the afternoon, and evening, so after school activities, absolutely could be affected. and tomorrow, drizzle. fog in the morning. and then some showers again in

are without electricity. and phone service. thankfully no one has died. but one man was hurt trying to jump out of the way. we have a dry start to the day across the state and anticipating several areas with thunderstorms. the monsoon wind pattern is back. slightly westward and is now back in colorado. so it is providing us with more moisture today. we do think that with the heat of the day, we will start to see some thunderstorms develop. by 1:00, to 2:00 this afternoon, and you will see a rapid buildup in the mountains and foothills and then they cut across here, late afternoon, after the thunderstorms are done, on the backside, from 10:00 p.m. to 3:00 in the morning, light showers, still will continue here over the front range. and as far as rain goes, you know how that is. you are going to get some spots with not very much. but several anticipating quarter of an inch up to three quarters of an inch of rain. we will have pretty good downpours. especially the closer are you to monument hills. and 70s by highs. and 3eu 2:00 this afternoon.

foothills. storms start around glenwood canyon and down to the san juans and up into grand county. they cut across the front range late in the day. and they make it as far east, it looks like brushed fort morgan and perhaps sterling and limon in the evening and several areas of the state, especially really in the central third of colorado, where we could see some very heavy rain during the day in a few locations, and 60s mountains, and 70s to near 80, for the east, and the west, 75 to sun in the morning and replaced by afternoon and evening, showers here. the drizzle and the mist continue, until tomorrow morning. and lunchtime, clearing, and then look for more storms tomorrow afternoon. and it does get a lot drier, and warmer to start next week. >> all right, marty. getting up with sky 9 at 6:13 as they cruised around town and witness admire nor crash around the 225 stretch, northbound around mississippi. and not a big deal there, and no lanes are blocked and traffic is still just really

and right now, there are over 25 and colfax. official sunrise time 6:22. it looks a little dark out there. headlights are on as folks get out and jump on the highways. out to the c-dot cams. i love this view, 25 near 20th check out the southbound push, it is a standard delay, south of i-70 but really clear picture here, shows you what traffic is moving through like southbound you will tap the breaks and jump into the 40s. and then northbounders in the upper 60s. and a couple new crashes in the and monaco. it shouldn't affect the elevated deck of i-70. the crash right at 19th and still in the clearing stage by the river front park. a lot of congestion there. and on a typical day. and outside we go to the westbound 70 view, near genesse, an earlier stall and it looked like it cleared out. a semi truck was blocking traffic. but it looks great, even the upper elevation commutes. >> that is so good to hear. >> all right. thank you much.

this as many as eight tornadoes swept through the area, not far from indianapolis. some people lost power, and others were told that they couldn't return to their apartments. others went because, well, they had no home to go back to. >> all we have is all our clothes and we have been in the soaking rain all day. >> everybody had lost their things due to the power lines, they are not safe going back. >> and about a dozen people are injured. none of them seriously, thank goodness. so far, no deaths have reported either. indiana governor and republican vice presidential dom knee mike pence can take a break from campaigning today. he is going to visit the area that was hit by the storms. he will get a first-hand look at the damage. he will start in the hardest hit area, kokomo, and he will move through howard and montgomery counties. new this morning, the soldier who shot and killed five dallas police officers last month had shown signs of post-traumatic stress disorder.

for it when he returned from afghanistan in 2014. and doctors decided mika johnson pose nod risk to himself or others and the 25- year-old would go on to shoot a dozen police officers during a peaceful march in july. the deaf man killed by a state trooper in july apparently had misunderstandings with police before and was afraid of them. that's what sam harris said about his brother daniel fatally shot after leading a high speed pursuit near charlotte last week. a review of public records show a few charges against harris from other states including two resisting arrestcharges that were later dropped. three young kids kidnapped in california, a week and a half ago, have been found alive. they were found alone in a motel room in grant, new mexico. and the man and woman who took them are suspects in the murder of the children's mom and are still on the loose. 6:19 right now. alcoholics anonymous, narcotics anonymous, racist anonymous.

have slowed down the fire danger, and in fact, we have moderate to low fire danger, across the state, it gets progressively higher, over into utah, but next week, it will get a lot warmer and a lot drier and you will see the conditions change rapidly. and today, sunny start. fair weather clouds. through lunch and thunderstorms develop during the afternoon. and this evening. and it is really going to affect you with after work or after school plans during the day today. the weekend still looking good, with the storm or saturday. low 80s during the afternoon. and the temperatures in the 70s for the kickoff of the broncos rams game. into the upper 80s on sunday. and that is when the warm just really starts. >> sky 9 is now at 29th and tenson, over a crash that took place just to the north of the sloan lake neighborhood. and this accident does involve injuries and a fire truck just left the scene. and there is an ambulance here, hoping to treat some of the patients but we are working to

severe storms. for us, storms start in the mountains, from southwestern colorado, to grand county, during the early afternoon. and we will get late afternoon, and evening thunderstorms around here. and then showers will continue, even after midnight tonight. so it is a very wet day, after a generally dry start, and very heavy rain in pockets, especially along and south of monument hill. and in several mountain areas during the day today. we will 10 degrees below the seasonal averages. and most of these highs in the mid to upper 70s, will be hit by 2:00. because after 2:00, we cloud up and start to see the rain run right down, right down off of the mountains and foothills over the i-25 corridor. >> 2:00. i love it when marty gives aus time like that. you can just set your watch to it. and look outside and here come the clouds. >> sky 9 is over your 25 drive and 6th avenue where it is

issue but the heavy eastbound drive, coming off of 6th avenue to northbound 25, you're crawling with about a 15 mile- an-hour average. and out we go to the c-dot camera at 25 and arapahoe. and construction continues along arapahoe itself. with the ramp delays. they are making major improvements but it will slow down your drive between the dtc and areas of centennial, connecting with parker road as well. and speeds on the high side, d between downtown and the tech center. and most area freeways have really been quiet, calm and clear. and i would do have a crash out across the side streets at stapleton and monaco, and a few moments ago, corey, sky 9 flew over the intersection of 29th and tenyson, next door to the center there, there is an injury crash and at least one person was taken to the hospital with injuries. >> hate to hear that, appeala. thank you for the update. >> it is 6:32 right now. five banks robbed and one suspect. police know who they are looking for, and they haven't found him yet.

handcuffed developmentally disabled inmate to his home instead of to jail, and then sexually assaulting her. court documents show that sheriff tom hanna says he was going to drive the female prisoner to the logan county jail and instead drove to his home in his own pick-up truck. the woman says she was told to take her clothes off and offered money before she was assaulted. the district attorney says the accusations should not reflect on the entire department or other sheriffs. >> i have the utmost district. i don't want this to reflect poorly upon all rural sheriffs. >> the sheriff's bond was set at $250,000. hanna is no longer the sheriff, by law that job now falls to the county coroner. he has to stay at least 100 feet away from the sedgewick county sheriff's office and has to wear a gps tracking device. new information this morning, on a deadly crash in aurora, from earlier this week. on monday, the driver of an suv

the denver post reports the 22- year-old who died pushed his 18- year-old friend to safety, before the crash. the 41-year-old driver was arrested, on suspicion of vehicular homicide, and driving drunk. seven students, two police officers, and a security guard, all lost their lives, after two people stormed american university in kabul, afghanistan. the attack started with a suicide car bomb attack outside the school wednesday evening. and it nine hours later, with the deaths of the two attackers. no one was claimed responsibility for the attack yet. two orlando hospitals are doing a really good thing. they are not billing the survivors of the pulse nightclub shooting. 49 people died when a gunman walked into the club and started shooting in june. one victim is still in the hospital. the hospital will write off an estimated $5.5 million or more in care. the families of the victims who

this offers people a good way to get to the resort and you don't have to deal with the i- 70 traffic. >> you really don't. it will get a lot of vehicles off i-70, during the peak ski times. today, they are going to announce the train times and the cost of what it is going to be, to take that train up to winter park. right from here, from union station, starting this ski season. and you know, this is the course we're talking about, starting at the beginning of the ski season. in the past, the from 2,000, i'm sorry, 1940 to 2009, and it was continued in 2009. it was really too expensive for a private operator to run. so now, amtrak is partnering with winter park to bring that train back. and you may remember, back in march of 2015, that was a year ago march, amtrak and winter park, offered skiers a chance to try out the ski train for two days. over a weekend. and those tickets, boy did they sell out for both of those
