throughout northeastern nebraska. they will be affecting parts of las animas and backa county this morning. and rain in eastern wyoming. and thunderstorms in the panhandle of nebraska. very heavy line of storms going there. they will be moving up through harrison. i could see a few light rain showers here and there this morning. a little more than sprinkles. midday clearing. by late in the afternoon, we hit our high temperature in the mid-70s. and then this evening, very, very light isolated showers as by the time the sun goes down. and i would say on balance, it is a very nice friday. and coming up, a warmer weekend, with details on that forecast, here in a few minutes. >> thank you, marty. lots going on across the drive in fort collins and denver and colorado spring. fort collins, 287 just reopened at shield. good news. there and we have a lot happening as we build in volume, 225 around the mississippi exit ramp. our views down to the springs. very tough. a rolled tanker truck around

dealership line there, near simmer ron. just south of the cimarron exit in fact. as they outright the tanker, there will be more curiosity slowdown. the sunrise time today 6:23. out across our maps, a lot happening including our ramp closure from southbound 225, heading out to ileff. a rollover crash took place and a mother and two children okay. all okay. but the ramp remains closed and mississippi is the alternate route. and further to the south and the west, wadswo of an early crash. so corey, i can't remember the last time it was this busy this early. >> and on friday, it is supposed to be friday light. what happened? >> hopefully we will get there. >> thank you. new overnight, a man is dead, after a fort collins police officer shot him. police say the man broke into a woman's house. on north college avenue and refused to come out. when he did leave, police say he was waving a gun and refused to follow officer's orders. they tried to stop him with a

the suspect was pronounced dead at the hospital. please look at the drawing so we can look for some guy who tried to kidnap a 9-year-old girl. the girl was playing in her driveway on monday evening when he came up behind her and touched her shoulder and said come with me. and the girl ran into her house and the man took off. tan, six feet tall, medium build, and one tattoo on his left arm is a red in california were found here in colorado. these are the two on the screen. they are arrested after a hotel after a two week long man hunt. kimberly robertson was found shot to death on the side of the road in los angeles county. and the kids were found safe yesterday in new mexico. and when police found the couple in pueblo, they did have a baby with them.

the homeless people who live on the sidewalks of denver are suing the city for its efforts to clear out those sidewalks. 9 news reporter tarhonda thomas is live at the city and county building. and they say that effort and several other city ordinances unfairly target the homeless. >> reporter: as a matter of fact, in this lawsuit, they say for a matter of year, the city of denver has been effectively discriminating against homeless people, telling them to move along and seizing their belonging and this filed yesterday. the city of denver telling 9 news they had not received the lawsuit and weren't served so they couldn't comment. i read the lawsuit top to bottom, nine homeless people, eight men, one woman and they said their items were seized in the homeless sweep that happened a few months ago and said police are treating them unfairly and suing the city of denver and naming the mayor, the police chief, the mayor's chief of staff, the city manager, and so many people,

department, so there are a number of people who are named in this lawsuit. and denver public works is what i meant instead of city manager. these lawsuits are treating the homeless as a class, with a class action status because the city has unfair policies and procedures discrimination. the homeless have increase the but not the bed. and there is a city focus on permanent and semi permanent housing instead of emergency beds. >> when the city gets a response, we will see what more of their reaction is. but what is being pursued in this lawsuit is basically a cease and desist order. an injunction against the camping ban that put people's property away and wouldn't let them sleep on the streets and the homeless sweep that took

people compensated, the homeless people whose items were taken. ryan? >> thank you very much. we will continue to follow that. the teenager who inspired a law that changed the way schools in colorado handle marijuana has died. jack split inspired schools to use marijuana and he had cerebral palsy and needed the marijuana for his muscle contractions and the pain got worse and he died wednesday. he had just started school at wheatridge high school last in june. under the law, schools can write policies for how and where students can receive medical marijuana on campus. another leak for that the mine, the environmental protection agency says some metals escaped in a colorado creek after heavy rains that happened earlier this week. vida urbonas is here. and the epa has not said how much got into the water. >> reporter: not a lot of details released at this point. in the new incident that we talked about tuesday, the environmental protection agency

metals those were, in the first place, and we are still waiting to hear about that, and this all happened tuesday at the treatment plant, north of silverton, and the epa has set up that plant, after the gold king mine waste spill last year. this is file video, from that major spill in 2015. and local officials have told the durango herald the release wasn't big enough to warrant a public advisory when it happens. the paper is reporting an internal alert was tuesday among epa staff and local officials but the epa did not identify the public or the media about the spill. the heavy rains caused an overflow and it leads discolored water into cement creek on tuesday. the metals have been at least partially treated right now. officials say the problem was corrected in about two hours. and the epa led crew inadvertently triggered that 3 million-gallon spill in the mine back in august of 2015. the spill tainted rivers in

continued to look for a long term solution from that 2015 spill, that treatment plant was installed to clean up the still- flowing water from the mine, and again, those heavy rains, marty, on tuesday, that's what caused that treatment pond to overflow into that creek. >> we have had some heavy rain in that part of the state. the monsoon backed into colorado. it has been spending a few days in the eastern sections of the united states. it has made with westward move for us. it will increase our rain chances today. we are not going to ve i would characterize it as sprinkles. and this afternoon, just a few very light showers. we make mid-70s today. and about 10 degrees below the average of 86. and this weekend, we start climbing back up out of it. with a small chance for an afternoon or evening storm, and we will be watching for that, around mile high stadium at 7:00 tomorrow night and then back storms off into the foothills as we warm up on sunday. >> marty, thank you. two people in indiana are in the hospital, right now,

the single engine plane was trying to land when it clipped a tree and slammed into the roof of the home. luckily nobody was inside the house at the time of the crash. the two people in the plane were air lifted to area hospitals. a city bus in phoenix was delayed by a lot. last night. because it was stuck. nearby water main break caused the sinkhole. luckily no passengers on board. but there were several people waiting nearby at the bus stop for their ride home. which i'm guessing never >> bummer. >> that is difficult. you can never do anything about it. sit there and wait it out. right now, today, 96 years ago. a long time ago, women got the right to vote and today is the anniversary of the 19th amendment, that is the day it took place, getting the right to vote, we studied this over and over again in the history books, it wasn't easy, a short process, and march's process lobbies started decades earlier for suffrage. and in 1920, women fought so

after shocks since that initial earthquake. those tremors are toppling already damaged and crumbling buildings. 267 people died after the 6.2 magnitude quake on wednesday. but that number could change, as reports of missing tourists and injured people continue to come in. it has been more than 24 hours since anybody has been found alive in the rubble. italy plans to rebuild the towns and villages destroyed in the earthquake but some are worried the historic small hamlets might some of the destroyed buildings go back hundreds of years. drones got a look at the widespread damage in myanmar today, after an earthquake there on the same day, as the italian quake, and at least four people were killed, and dozens of ancient temples damaged. the city of pargen 0 one of most unmarked celebrated cities and it is a coincidence the earthquakes happened on the same day. this re not related.

swimmer ryan lochte left his teammates in his wake to deal with his childish behavior in rio. turns out he is not done with brazil yet. although he would like to be. he will have to answer for the gas station confrontation mess. brazilian police have charged the american swimmer with filing a false police report.

gunpoint in rio during the olympics. police say video footage shows the swimmer vandalized a local gas station and that the robbery never happened. now, lochte will face criminal charges, several media outlets are reporting that he will be able to send an attorney in his place, and won't be required to travel to rio. a coach and rug by player in lakewood wants everyone to keep paying attention to rio for the paralympics. adam skitiro is for usa's paralympics rug by team. >> it seems every single time once the olympics are over, everybody forgets the paralympics games are right behind it. i have strived to better myself, and to prove to myself that there are no limitations being in a wheelchair. none at all. >> he says the athletes at the paralympics are just as elite as those that we have been

a lot to lurn. >> it doesn't matter because the defense is so good. it doesn't matter. thunderstorms have been going in new mexico and the panhandle of nebraska this morning. and we had light sprinkles, between 4:00 and 4:30 in the northwest side of town and those have really slacked off. we are seeing drier air off to the west. that is going to be filtering in here over the next few days and progressively dry down south. and showers this morning. and we will have sprinkles at best. and late this afternoon. and very small round of rain going to be just less than a tenth of an inch. very little to do. so don't worry too much about after school, after work activities. i think they will go okay and a little rain on you and not very much and not very long. and 70s highs here. in the 60s in the mountains and foothills. and the thunderstorms will be strongest over northeastern, east central, and southeastern colorado. and through the morning, and afternoon today. and that is where we will have pockets of heavy rain, and could even see some hail

let's gets out to the denver drive. a closure southbound across federal at 20th avenue. because of an arrest involving a denver water truck, with that closure in mind, use northbound federal and southbound sheridan is a pretty good alternate. that is running extremely light. for now, on the early side of our drive, that will change. and southbound 225, our ramp to ileff is still closed down because of a rollover crash, there were two children and a mother in the car. they are all okay. but the ramp is still clouds down as they wreck. and so many brake lights toward york street and the southbound and eastbound slowdown will

marvelous history here. >> 9 neighborhoods is in engelwood this week. the city of denver's neighbor to the south. the most recent census shows about 33,000 people live in engelwood today. that is very different than the 1850s. take a look at the pictures. engelwood's beginnings are traced to gold in 1858. miners found gold in the south platte river and that triggered the pike's peak or bust gold rush of 1889. and urban development was really the main focus. and denver roads extended south and street blocks were laid out. and in may of 1903, the town was officially named engelwood and guys that stands for
