a father is in jail, this morning... accused of trying to kill his own son. police say-- he intentionally crashed his car in centennial. it's an incident that has witness still shaken up. 9news reporter tarhonda thomas is here with more. tarhonda-- the details are disturbing.

father intentionally crashed his car... ...and neighbors say-- that he hit his injured two-year- old son... ...it's hard to imagine. but police maintain-- that's what happened. the crash was last sunday afternoon in centennial. 29-year-old nathan weitzel told police-- he crashed his car "on purpose"--- to kill his son. he didn't "buckle up" two-year-old isiah. and-- police think-- he was driving up to 75 miles per hour-- when he crashed into several cars. an officer says-- weitzel told them he wanted to kill his son... because to raise a child. he admitted to taking cocaine that day, too. little isiah survived the crash. half of his body is in a cast, right now. his mother-- who isn't married ot weitzel-- can't believe he'd try to do such a thing. witnesses to the crash can't believe it either. they also couldn't believe what weitzel apparently did to his son-- after crashing his car.

several charges-- including attempted first- degree murder. isiah's mother says-- jail is definitely where he belongs. we'll hear from isiah's mom-- in our next hour. a man accused of assaulting a woman on the highline canal trail- might be tied to another attack. 25 year old demarcus bookhart is accused of attacking a woman last friday on the trail. that woman ma picture as he left. according to a police report, bookhart told officers he got into a fight with the woman - when her dog tried to bite him. he faces charges of 2nd degree assault. another assault happened on the trail about a week ago. police say bookhart could be connected to that attack- but wouldn't confirm much more at this point. homelessness in boulder and denver is a problem. but some neighbors in boulder say- they don't want to bring that problem even closer to home. organizers want to build a homeless

"housing first" idea. it means- homeless people are given a home as a starting point to get them on track with the rest of their lives. no requirement for sobriety or a job. organizers say- housing is a basic need and a right. but neighbors are worried about bringing even more homeless people into their neighborhood. sober homeless center could open in boulder around this time in 2019 if it passes its site review next month. sometimes- you don't need high tech gadgets and a team of super spies to pull off a jewelry heist. sometimes- you just
