dakota. meteorologists were saying the radius for the tremors of this earthquake surrounded around 750 miles. so a lot of people felt this and are requesting exactly what happened this morning. we are told this earthquake lasted for right around 1 minute 30 seconds. >> that's a long one. >> yeah. >> it makes a lot of people pay attention to what's going on. and it's all on social media right now. the tweets started coming in. this is a meteorologist -- was a meteorologist in damage there. an earthquake strong enough to walk print all of my wall from the 9th floor of a high-rise. this shows a large portion of the midwest felt that magnitude 5.2 quake this morning. there is some damage being reported. there you are. that brick building, you can see a chunk of it fell off. >> a crack on the side of a

at your drive this morning. a few cars heading up to the high country to enjoy the long labor day weekend. traffic now nothing like what we saw last night. let's begin with breaking news out of elbert county. a drunk driver accused of pulling a gun at deputies who tried to arrest him, the sheriff's office initially got a call about a drunk driver near county road 21 and private road 160. >> deputies used a license plate number to track down elizabeth. he pointed a gun at deputies according to the sheriff's office before running into the house and barricading himself. s.w.a.t. teams made their way inside and arrested him. no one was hurt. we want to get to some more breaking news. we have been following this earthquake out of oklahoma overnight. the united states geological survey says it's a 5.6 magnitude quake that hit north central oklahoma. specifically, pawnee at 6:02 our time this morning.

station in dallas that this could be felt in numerous states ranging from north dakota to texas. we are told that this spans around 750 miles. tremors could be felt that far away. and a lasted roughly 94 seconds. you know, we actually even got e-mails from some folks in colorado saying they thought they felt some kind of tremor there. we don't know if that's true. we are trying to confirm that information this morning. >> yeah, folks out east definitely say they we'll see. and you see all these photos coming in right now. that's a supermarket. everything fell off the shelves. cracks in the sidewalks. shattered glass from the cupboards. a lot of damage to be cleaned up. so far no reports of injuries, and that is what's most important right now. we'll continue to track this story both online and right here on air for the next hour or so. but as you can see, there is a lot happening on twitter right now. we are seeing some of these -- the radar images popping up as

8:06 on your saturday. this morning a douglas county sheriff's detective is recovering in critical condition after a shootout in parker. police say this started with a call about a suicidal man with a rifle walking around near sierra middle school. investigators say the man started shooting at detective dan brite when he got to the scene. he drove off. the suspect did, in an rv. there was a chase. he crashed a half a mile away outside of killed. the school was placed on lockdown. a surreal experience for parents who were waiting in fear as students say they were told to hide under their desks. >> you hear about this on the news, of all these other schools and shootings, and until you experience it yourself with your own child, it doesn't resonate. >> other parents were hearing that their students were told to stay down while teachers were guarding the doors with

continuing to recover. it's a case that sparked a debate over how those convicted of sexual assault should be punished. people are now calling for a judge to resign after a college student who sexual assaulted a woman was released from jail. brock turner only served half of his sentence. he was let out on good behavior. nbc was given exclusive access to evidence in his case. it includes pictures showing turner with a torn shirt. this is hours after the former stanford university swimmer was tackled by students who saw dumpster. one inmate fresh out of jail offered his perspective. >> i stole a purse from a mall and i got more time than he did. >> certainly raises questions. interrogation tapes show turner saying, quote, my intentions were not to try to rape a girl without her consent. i was just trying to hook up with a girl. when asked if he would remember the victim, he said probably not. he will be listed as a sex offender for life.

her work which began in the slums of cal cat a won her a nobel peace prize in 1979. 49ers quarterback colin kaepernick's decision to sit during the national anthem could lead to a lack of security at levi stadium in san francisco. the santa clara police union, which accounts for more of the half paid security force for games at levi stadium, may not work this season. the union sent the 49ers a letter saying ey over kaepernick's blanket statements about how officers, quote, murder people. the union says it's creating a hostile work environment for the police officers at the stadium. the 49ers say they respect kaepernick's right to freedom of expression. on to health news now. a major announcement from the fda could impact millions of american household. they banned more than a dozen chemicals in antibacterial soaps. more than 2100 products are impacted. that's 40% of the soap and body washes on the market.

evidence that adding these chemicals to plain soap and water does any better at preventing infections or spreading germs. researchers believe the soaps could pose a risk. the fda is most concerned about liquid soaps that contain two specific chemicals that could speed up drug-resistant bacteria and even interfere with estrogen and testosterone levels. >> basically, these chemicals can be endocrine disrupters. they can mess with >> the american cleaning institute though insists antibacterials are safe. the fda is not suggesting that you throw out your antibacterials. just don't buy any more. hand sanitizers, by the way, not part of this ban. only antibacterial liquid soaps. a report is calling colorado the slimmest state in the nation. it remained the leanest state? 2015 with a 20.2% adult obesity

a possibility for some storms along i-25 and some of those storms out on the eastern plains could turn severe. highs on this saturday, take a look at them. it's going to get toasty to the south and southeast where the temperatures will be in the 90s. in the mountains temperatures in the 60s and 70s. outside right now, it's so nice. we got 50s and 60s on the map. in the high country a bit cooler as to be expected. the western slope 67 degrees right now. we are going to take you h we have clouds, areas of patchy fog, but that's going to be lifting soon. in fact, by lunch time a few storms in the san juans. those storms will be traveling from the southwest to the northeast and i think the timing for the storms here in the city will be between 3 to about 7 p.m. after that those storms will be out on the eastern plains. and when those storms move in that area, that's where they could become severe. large hail, damaging winds, also some heavy rain and frequent lightning.
