hello, everybody. thanks for joining us here on 9news at noon on this tuesday. lease go look outside and get a nice shot of denver. there's clouds. looks like a little more blue skies and clouds out there. temperatures in the 50s. it really feels nice out there. parts of the front range are going to see storm this is afternoon. you brought marty in the studio to tell us what to look out for. >> i think we'll see a storms here. it's going to take a while. it's going to take storms. back in denver, hazy, not as overcast as it was this morning. we're concerned about high fire danger during the afternoon. we'll have -- we've seen those storms going through since 3:00 this morning. now new storms are developing in northern new mexico. those are headed toward raton pass. that's the beginning of what i

kicking up in southeast colorado during the afternoon and evening. we'll see them here. they will be after 4:00 and lasting as late as sunset or beyond here in the front range. now, we'll have a possibility of some damaging winds and hail and also some pockets of heavy rain. notice the farther east you go, it gets more intense out there. our friends on the plains will share in this in spades. clouds dissipate and get up close to evening before things start to move out. if you do get one or two storms in the area. >> so my car just went to the shop for hail damage we had a month ago. >> so all you vethe is sneak out a little early or park underground.

thanks, marty. so, today firefighters are apparently getting a better handle on the starwood wildfire in larimer county. it's about 35% contained. we now know it was lightning that sparked the flames to 350 acres near red feathers lake. i guess that's helping. we've got 35% containment. the chain itt educational campuses. just days after the u.s. department of education banned it from using new students who use federal financial aid. the company that operates vocational schools announced in a statement today that it's ending academic operations at all of its more than 130 campuses across 38 states. the company which is based in indiana said its move would have an impact hundreds of thousands of students and

8,000 employees. itt educational says it was forced to take this action after the u.s. department of education issued a ban on enrolling new students who rely on federal financial aid. >> a man's dying wish to meet peyton manning has been granted, but unfortunately he won't be able to completely fulfill his dream. you see, he has been diagnosed with terminal our nbc affiliate says manning called him and aaron's aunt says he immediately picked up. the family has been given the opportunity to meet the former quarterback in denver, but his doctors say he can't go over any of the passes to drive over here. it's just too high of an altitude for what he's going through. his family says while it's not meeting manning in person, hearing his voice, and talking with him made all the difference. we wish him the best.

as well, especially southeastern colorado. it's just plain warm down there. almost 90 degrees in lamar. we're in the big 60s to near 70 here. again, if you're in the direct sunlight, it is quite warm, downtown denver, 62 in the shade for us right now. this is how things are shaping up across the west. we have hurricane newton that moved through cabo san lucas this morning, moving up into central baja, california. it's spinning off choiceure. there's -- spinning off moisture. that's going to combine with the heat of the day to build storms up. you have plenty of time to get out and about and do what you want to do if you don't want to worry about storms. it will be well after 4:00 that we begin to get thunderstorms down here. it looks like they will be lasting until at least sunset and performance a little later

locally heavy downpours. it might not be at your house, but in about an 8-10-mile radius, there will be downpours of rain. 70s to near 80s for a high and 60s and 70s in the mountains. storms down south, especially the ones i pointed out minutes ago. those are going to help kickoff new storms in southeasten colorado, and that will destabilize things here on the front range and knock out a few storms going ug afternoon. so, a few, just a few, a handful of moderate to heavy storms down here, progressively more than those as you go farther to the north and east. we're all in a threat for severe weather from the front range through castle rock and limon and southeast colorado through the afternoon and evening. a lot of our communities and i- 76 are under a threat today.

here. quite a bit warmer in southeast colorado today. we'll get these late day storms going into the evening with isolated severe storms, wind and hail. it's going to be the big problems there. those continue through the evening. overnight, it's cloudy. it's going to be so -- there's so much humidity in the air after the storms. we cleared that tomorrow afternoon and it just end up being a warm and sunny day. warm and breezy for sunday. another cool front on friday. it doesn't look like it's going

nbc sunday night football begins its tour in denver today. we got a look inside. it's pretty cool on the outside. when you go inside, it's really neat. it brings fans from the field to the studio. look at this. the 45-foot long bus features an interactive replica newsroom. and then a life size photo bomb wall. you can have clay matthews or vonn miller. anyhow, so celebrate the kickoff, the bus is going to be at civic center park tomorrow between 3:00 and 8:00. the bus will be going to 22 games. traveling over 23,000 miles. so see it while it is here. many of you have already heard
