this is 9news. breaking news this morning, a 5-year-old girl was found hiding in a closet of a burning home in lakewood. firefighters were able to pull her out to safety and get her to the hospital. the girl's dad also taken to the hospital. we don't have any conditions the call came in just after midnight. the house near kipling and morrison road. this is a live look at the back end of the house. that is where most of the damage was. a family of four lives in that house. firefighters say that it likely started on or near the back deck. colleen ferreira is heading out that way, and she'll keep us up to date as the story develops. in the meantime, gary and corey with you on this broken friday morning. >> victory morning.

going to get into that in a few minutes. right now, marty joins us. i think one of my favorite parts of the game is when they showed the sunset over the mountains last night. it was terrific. it was beautiful. >> it was, and one of the reasons we have so much color in the sky is that lost solar fire out there near meeker, 2000-acre fire. jeff hall with this image posted to our facebook page. a lot of smoke in the area, and it provided tremendous color here yesterday. robin with this yesterday evening. even though we didn't have very many clouds, we had ton of color because there's so much smoke in the air. temperatures in the 50s to mid- 60s this morning. visibility great over the front range. it continues to be quite low around burlington. we were socked in yesterday. we are again today. we have foggy, hazy conditions over parts of eastern colorado. this morning that will be gone by 9:30. we move into the 70s this afternoon. now, the thing you're going to

over during the national anthem. send me your pictures of the jets as they flew over and we'll talk about it over on twitter. use the hash tag 9news mornings. and win the game 21-20. >> they came in and did it. broncos winning the first regular season game against the panthers. they were the underdogs in the game, and didn't have the lead until the 4th quarter, winning with just 9 game. >> the rematch of the super bowl 50 started with some turnovers for the broncos in the first quarter,s broncos were driving, came to a quick halt when devonte booker fumbled. the panthers recovered the ball. they scored. panthers were up 7-0. broncos scored their first touchdown in the second quarter after the panthers failed to capitalize on a turnover. broncos answered with the 28- yard touchdown run. full back, andy janovich ran

that is his first carry in the nfl. panthers came back with another touchdown but the broncos refused to go away. the momentum shifted in the 4 4th quarter thanks to a big interpretation from chris harrison, and two touchdowns from cj anderson. there's one of them right there. that gave the broncos the lead. the whole thing came down to this field goal with seconds left. broncos win, 21-20. before the opening kick off, one of the broncos play from colin kaepernick's play book. as the national anthem started marshall moved to the end of the row of his teammates and took a knee. marshall and kaepernick were college teammates at nevada. after the national anthem, the broncos did release a statement saying quote while we encourage members of our organization to stand during the national anthem, we understand and respect it being a personal decision. we have had thousands of comments come in to our 9news facebook page about this.

night. you can share your thoughts on our 9news facebook page right now to join in on the conversation. >> it is four minutes after 6:00 right now. that wasn't the only protest happening at game or before the game. hundreds marched to the steps of the state capitol right before the game in protest of the $3.7 billion dakota access pipeline pipeline . it will stretch 1100 miles from north dakota across four states to oil refineries in illinois. underneath the mississippi river. protesters in denver and north dakota worry about possible leaks. they also don't want to see sacred burial grounds from native americans disturbed. earlier this week, a judge temporarily halted construction along a section of the pipeline because some of the protests got violent. a federal judge will make a final decision on halting construction of that pine line later today. it's 6:05 right now. exactly one week ago, a douglas county detective was shot while

this morning he is still in the hospital getting life saving treatment. today detective dan brite's family and doctors will be speaking at that press conference. >> reporter: we are going to be hearing from a lot of people at today's press conference. we're going to be hearing about his condition, how he's doing, as well as the latest on the investigation into the shooting. we are live this morning outside of parker add hospital. -- adventis hospital. this goes to show the support that the community has given detective brite and his family. numerous restaurants and businesses are having fundraisers and donating some of the proceeds in order to help him and his family in all of this. detective brite was shot by a

he started shooting at officers. officers returned fire killing the suspect. detective brite was critically hurt. the sheriff's office says he is making promising progress. they believe that since it was about a mile from here that he was able to get to the hospital so quickly that helped save his life. back to the community efforts here, this sunday afternoon at 3:00, members of the community along with his family, they will gather here in the hospital lot to show support for detective brite. they want him to look out hospital window and see blue balloons and a crowd outside supporting him. then on monday there will be a blood drive at the parker police department. there are limited spots in that, about 40 spots, so they say if you can not call ahead to make an appointment, talk to the blood center and talk about donating in his honor for that as well. again, as you were mentioning this morning at 8:30, they will be holding a press conference here at the conference room, this side of the hospital.

investigation. they're going to talk about how he's doing, and of course we're going to have all of that for you streamed live. we're going to hold it here on 9news. and we're going to stream it live on 9news.com. >> let him and his family know we are behind them and support them all the way, 100%. thank you. also today, the denver police department is honoring an officer killed back in 1961. they are dedicating a sign for officer ed smelder who was killed when his officer discharged at the five point st down the street where it happened at the blare caldwell library. it's part of a memorial ahead of the anniversary of 9/11 on sunday. four officers killed on the job will be honored and all with similar memorial signs. the ceremony started thursday with officer daryl sure who was killed 54 years ago. he was killed off duty eating a meal with his family in what was then the marigold cafe. three armed robbers walked in and the detective stepped in. he was shot in the chest and later died.

6:13 right now. the presidential candidates are focusing on two different tommics today, hillary clinton on national security, donald trump on religious rights. the focus in politics is on comments made at politicians speaking out against the candidates and what they had to say. trump was in ohio delivering prepared remarks on his stance in the iraq war saying he was against it from the start. many critics, he maintains he's against it taking clinton down in the process. >> in iraq, my judgment was right. and hers with all of this

johnson getting attention after comments he made on msnbc's morning joe thursday. he was asked about alapo, and his answer definitely got people talking. >> what would you do if you were elected about alapo? >> and what is alapo. >> you're kidding. >> no. >> as you may or may not know, it's a town in syria that has become the center of the refugee crisis from the war there. questions about how much johnson knows about foreign policy issues. he responded online saying quote i'm human, i blanked, it happens. north korea's neighbors are shaken over the country's recent nuclear explosion that was so big that it registered as 5.3 magnitude earthquake. state tv says it's a response to the international sanctions following the last nuclear test

. 6:21 right now, banking giant wells fargo needs up $185 million fine. that is the total combined fines from california. federal regulators who say that employees there illegally opened millions of accounts for customers who have not authorized them to do so. regulators say the company did this to meet aggressive sales goals. the company will pay restitution to the affected customers too. samsung's exploding galaxy note 7 the subject of a recall is considered a flight risk.

this is 9news. new this morning, a 5-year- old girl is found trapped inside a burning home hiding in an upstairs closet. >> 9news reporter colleen ferreira is live at the home in lakewood looking to get some

don't know their conditions, right? >> reporter: no, we don't, guys. your heart just really goes out to this family and those firefighters involved. the firefighters tell us they rescued that 5-year-old little girl from the house fire. she was hiding in the closet upstairs at the time that they got upstairs to find her. that little girl taken to the hospital. her father also taken to the hospital. guys we just don't know their conditions right now. really hoping for some positive news. hopefully soon. you can see investigators over while just kind of going through this part of the home specifically. you can see the damage of this area of the home. we know it was a family of four inside the house. two parents, two children. when the fire started just after midnight, three of the four family members made it out of the home, and then firefighters rescued the little girl hiding in a closet upstairs. so far, investigators say a smoke detector was found on the first floor of the home, and they say it's possible there

it's too difficult to figure out at this time. the cause of the fire they say is still under investigation. it may have started on or near a back deck. we are on the backside of the house, and so that's why we can show you kind of these images of maybe somewhere where the fire started on the backside of the home. these firefighters we know they put their lives on the line every day, and they did that for this family. a tough day for have been through, and the firefighters too. >> how scared that little girl must have been. thank you for the update, and we'll update you when we know more about the story and the conditions of the little girl and her father. let's get a check of the weather outside. meteorologist marty coniglio is joining us. pretty calm weekend, marty. >> it is going to be except for this afternoon when the wind kicks up around here. haze has really been an issue. wildfire smoke in the west creating colorful sunsets

robin grills posted that. and we're beginning to see our typical color change. in the next nine, ten days, you will see things getting past halfway, thanks to peter who has been out and about and very busy. some areas of smoke in the western u.s. really concentrating in california and nevada. we have two areas creating fire here. the lost solar fire near meeker kicked out quite a bit of smoke over northern and central colorado yesterday, and newscast what gave colorful sunset. we also in the air today have a tremendous amount of pollen over the area. very little moisture. the monsoon is it our south and east during the day. that leaves us with clear conditions around here as we move into the 60s here by the end of the rush hour and into the mid-and upper 70s. now, late in the day today, winds are going to start picking up, getting up around 25, 30 miles per hour, especially after 2:00 this afternoon. thank you, marty.

his family and doctors will be telling us how his treatment is going. that's happening this morning. 9news reporter, vida urbonas joins us live from douglas county. she's awaiting the news conference. detective brite was responding to the call of a suicidal man when this happened. >> reporter: yes, as he was shot. it happened a week ago, and this morning at 8:30, they will be holding a press conference here at parker they will give us the latest on the investigation and all the plans the community has had to come out and support him and his family in all of this. you know, as you were talking about detective brite is the douglas county detective. he was shot by a suspect near sierra middle school last friday. the suspect had been seen near the school with a gun. that suspect started shooting at officers. detective brite was hit and officers returned fire killing the suspect. detective brite was cellly

some promising progress. and let's go back to the community efforts going on here. this sunday afternoon at 3:00, members of the community along with his family, they will gather here at the parking lot at the hospital to show their support for detective brite. they want him to be able to look outside of his hospital window and see a sea of balloons that are blue and really just know that this community is out here supporting him. there's also a community effort there is a blood drive. it is going to be this sunday. and there are about 40 spots available. it's through the parker police department. they are asking people to call ahead and make sure you make a reservation, and if those spots fill up, they want you to reach out to the blood center, and through that, you can ask that your donation be in honor of detective brite. we are dealing with communities, about two dozen bids in the community are raise -- businesses in the community are raising money for detective

9news 6 a.m. have a great morning! a douglas county detective -- shot by suspect while on so welcome back. we e this breaking news that we had this morning. there was a house fire that was near kipling and morrison this morning. a 5-year-old girl was inside. she was hiding in the upstairs closet when firefighters arrived. firefighters were able to get her out. this is a family of four that lived in the home. the other three were able to make it out okay. the little girl and the father were transported. we are not sure about their injuries right now. as you can see, there are investigators on scene to see what the source of the fire was.

drops during the evening tonight. really the big feature is the wind. late this afternoon, wind gusts especially along and east of i- 25, 25, 30 miles per hour during the early part of the evening. we'll hold in the 70s today with 60s and 70s in the mountains and foothills. burning off the haze over the eastern plains we'll get everybody a good deal of sunshine for the afternoon. light sprinkle here and there. gusty wind during the evening. 60s, 70s in the mountains. windy from the front the northeast through the afternoon. it stays warm in southeastern and in western colorado. we'll go 76 today. partly cloudy, a sprinkle maybe in a couple of spots. there will definitely be a lot of wind around the area during the night tonight. cloudy conditions hang with us through the night and it gets very chilly around here into the mid-40s. tomorrow, a cloudy cool start, and then we clear with warmer temperatures in the low 80s tomorrow. hot on sunday, and another cool
