of saving lives. s before >> reporter: around 12:30 this morning in lakewood -- >> this is a confirmed structure fire. there is a 5-year-old trapped inside of the building on the second floor. >> reporter: -- a parent's biggest fear. >> no. we are outside, but my daughter is inside. >> reporter: dad tried to go in. >> get out of the house. get out of the house. >> reporter: but the smoke and the flames were already too much. >> we knew we had to get in there and find that girl and get her out as fast as we could. >> reporter: the two firefighters ran into the burning house es >> in the interior of the house there was zero visibility. the smoke was pretty thick. >> reporter: and the scared little girl was hiding in her room making for a potentially deadly hide and seek. >> ceiling collapse, floor collapse because like we said, there was fire from end to end top to bottom. >> when i got to her, unfortunately she was hiding in the closet terrified. she was a little bit difficult to coax out of the closet. >> reporter: they got her out and saved her life. >> unfortunately i don't think it's all that unusual. when children get scared, they try to hide.

he shot at officer dan brite. at a press conference this morning the douglas county sheriff said the quick action of s.w.a.t. medics saved dan brite's life. detective brite's brother spoke and thanks the community for the outpouring of support and donations. brite is still in critical condition, but doctors are optimistic he will recover. an inmate in the pitkin county jail was caught on camera destroying a jail cell on august off the ceiling and used it to destroy a sprinkler head. at one point he gets in a scuffle with deputies. the sheriff told the aspen time he doesn't know how much the damage will cost, but it could be more than $100,000. according to the aspen time, garrett was in jail for possession of meth and was arrested after he called 911 to report a group of 30 people trying to tow his car. when officers arrived, they didn't find anyone trying to tow his car but arrested him for meth. now he's charged with

mischief. a man accused of stabbing another man inside a bar has been ordered by a judge to wear a gps monitor. 46-year-old anthony eely was in court today. tuesday police say that he walked into mead street station on 36th avenue, cut another man's throat. a judge set his bond at $150,000 and ordered him to stay away from the restaurant. tomorrow night at 5:00 meade station is hold -- mead station is holding a fundraiser for the victim to help costs. north korea has tested its most powerful nuclear weapon yet and responding effectively will be a real challenge for the international community. today's underground test was so powerful it triggered an earthquake. north korea says it can now put a nuclear warhead on a missile. of course, there are concerns this is another step toward a potential attack in america. years of tough sanctions have not done much to deter north

nuclear ambitions. there was talks to resolve the nuclear crisis back in 2005. >> i'm certainly in favor of any and all sanctions, but i think we need to understand that the north koreans don't seem to care anymore. so we probably have to look to see whether there's some options that together with the chinese could be taken of a quiet variety, perhaps even a clandestine variety, that could somehow slow down this nuclear program because what is very clear is the north koreaians are going north koreans are going to go at this until they succeed. donald trump and hillary clinton are sparring over who is the better fit to respond to north korea. clinton says the current crisis shows the need for america to elect a president who confronts threats with steadiness and strength. donald trump said the nuclear threats is yet another example of clinton's catastrophic failures while she was secretary of state.

zika virus despite a controversial spraying program that moved ahead earlier this morning in an effort to stop disease carrying mosquitoes from spreading. the spraying took place this morning in miami beach. it was supposed to start yesterday but was delayed because of angry protests from stop residents who think the chemical is harmful to their health. florida health officials are now confirming 84 pregnant women in the state have contracted the virus. another round of aerial spraying is scheduled for sunday morning. it's been almost 20 years since john bow in a found brutal -- jonbenet ramsey was found brutally murdered in boulder. tonight you'll see documents never before seen in public and hear from two investigators who talk about what happened inside that investigation. >> the impression fostered by some people is that this was sort of the keystone cops, makes you mad. >> very. we doggedly followed up on every lead we had and literally there was no stone left

dozens of tourists were trapped in cable cars dangling above the french alps overnight. more than 100 people were left stranded when the cable cars just stopped working. the cable cars reach an altitude of 12,000 feet making the rescues risky and forcing some to have to descend by rope. >> they tried to take us with the helicopter, but the fog came in, so the two rescuers

a delay after we decided there was no other way to get down. >> strong winds are believed to be to blame for the breakdown. some people were forced to sleep in the cable cars overnight because rescuers couldn't get everyone down. sunday marks 15 years since the 9/11 attacks. nearly 3,000 people were killed in coordinated terrorist attacks on the definitely towers, the world trade center, new york city and also at pentagon. the fourth hijacked plane crashed in a field in pennsylvania. the passengers and crew launched a counter attack and stormed the cockpit. the house has approved a bipartisan bill that would allow families of september 11th victims to sue the government of saudi arabia. the span comes on the eve of the 15th -- passage comes on the eve of the 15th anniversary attacks despite vehement objections from saudi arabia, a key u.s. ally in the middle east.

this busy highway 40 this. display got a lot of attention with people stopping for picture to remember the day which is why kyle did this. this year he's got a few family members to help. 64 police, 343 firefighters died and around 2,000 more for all the people who passed away due to complications in the attack. also people from a younger generation learn about history. >> that's why i want to do it. none of these young kids know what happened and it's just pretty -- it's not just as sad, but it's quite sad this these kids don't know what happened, like they know what it is, but they don't know what actually occurred. >> reporter: right there you can see some of the flags under

what a difference a day makes here in colorado, yesterday nearly 90 degrees in downtown denver, today mid-70s and very windy. outside we're watching this us the cloud, but the sunshine early on was nice. still dry. this front isn't producing much precipitation. it's just these pesky winds we'll deal with the next couple hours come directly at us from the north between 30 to 40 miles per hour in northeastern colorado. 74, all we could muster at dia, a little warmer in southeastern colorado in the upper 80s, 62 in leadville, mid-80s across the western slope. right new tons of sunshine at
