now are you. >> no, i'm not can i have it. >> it's not raining. >> it was raining overnight. clouds in the area and every now and again it gets misty. this is right here at 9 news on the front balcony looking downtown. solid overcast. we have a few areas with some fog and there is a bit of i would call it midst and a ltl and around the front range this morning on the backside of some showers that happened over the area. looking here in the pre-dawn sky you see a few breaks in the overcast. we have solid clouds over us right now. visibility is not terrible around here. it does decrease on the west and northwest side of town. last night showers were up into nebraska. we had some moderate rain overnight.

going to be dealing with here this morning but very cool temperatures in the 40s, so if you're outside working today things looking very good for the early part of the day and then late this afternoon especially 3, 4, 5:00 get a couple of thunderstorms here with some moderate rain and even a little bit of small hail and the reason i mention hail is because right now the freezing level starting to drop a little bit here as we get into the tail end of summer. it's just easier to get the to fall all the way to the ground. we're also watching out for some wet roads on the drive this morning. some of those up on the northwest side of town especially near boulder. south southeast side looks to be dry this is i-225. still very good speeds along 225 this morning. if you're traveling southbound speeds averaging about 60 miles per hour. the drive is going to take you 11 minutes minutes to travel i-70 to i-25.

drive about 9 minutes long this morning. no major accidents on the road. it looks like we're starting to see minor slow downs through 270 and a stall on northbound i-25. not causing any major issues though. we'll have another update coming up. in the news today the husband of the bus driver killed in that crash at dia on sunday says that he wishes he could be with the students and the staff he wants to support them. his wife was taking the school's football team back to campus when the crash happened on sunday. we're joined live from the school this morning. the husband has just as many questions as all of us. >> reporter: and he said he couldn't sleep ever since he found out about this didn't because it was so puzzling. investigators thought this may have been a medical condition

they made an extra loop at the airport before going off the road and hitting the pillar. no one noticed anything strange before hand. certainly a lot for investigators to try to figure out and also a lot for her husband to try to figure out as well. he is clearly heart broken trying to figure out what may have happened here. again he said that his wife suffered no medical issues. she wasn't taking any medication. she wasn't being treated for anything and recently passed a health exam. his story breaking to hear as he continues to look for answers. and he said yesterday when he found out about this he had a gut feeling something was wrong >> i kept calling my wife's phone saying it can't be but i just few deep down inside i just had this feeling. i just wanted to know what happened. i want to know what happened. it's hard for me to -- to not know. >> yeah, you can imagine how difficult it must be for them.

hoping to get to the bottom of that as well. the superintendent of the school actually sent a letter to the entire district saying in part that the entire community is standing together and that he is very proud of how this community has come together and surrounded legacy high school. >> absolutely he should be. all right. thank you much for that. 3 legacy high school football coaches are s the accident. the school does have a home coming game coming up this friday. we're going to find out today whether or not it will still be played. the school community isn't focused on that right now though instead they're throwing their support behind the injured coaches as well as her family. every day of home coming week as a theme. after sunday's crash the students took it upon themselves to change things. >> it was supposed to be sports

by lunchtime we'll get a break and this evening thunder showers revisit the area. rain this afternoon at times moved moderate to heavy. rain in a few spots that's a decent little downpour here and there. wind not a huge problem for us generally out of the east and southeast less than 12 miles per hour. 60s to near 70 from the metro denver area. the fog and clouds out it's nice for the middle of the day we will bring showers back mostly for the front range central mountain and then through the western valleys throughout the afternoon and evening. that's where we'll have the best pockets of rain throughout the rest of the day today. warmest temperatures in western colorado near # 0 degrees, for many mountain locations 60s and low 70s, similar to what we're going to see right here in eastern

partly sunny by mid-day and a round of afternoon evening storms should begin to taper off shortly after sunset later tonight. it will stay cloudy and foggy overnight into tomorrow though i think we clear up earlier tomorrow which allows us into the mid-70s. i like our chances for storms tomorrow. they pick back up friday before the weekend warms up and appears to dry out. wet spots on the roads especially if you're up around boulder you need to watch out for that. other parts of town look very good. this is the north end of town as you're coming down from 104th along i-25. a little bit more volume out there but no major delays in fact those drive times on that north stretch from e 470 to southbound i-25 about 13 minutes with speeds averaging around 59 miles per hour. that being said i am seeing what looks to

carolina. the ncaa has pulled 7 championship events from the state over that state's law that many say can lead to discrimination against lgbt community members. it's also dubbed the bathroom bill requires transgender individuals to use bathrooms matching the gender on their birth certificates. earlier this year the nba decided to move a transgender teenager in new jersey says he is being told he can no longer attend his catholic high school. he came out as a transgender several months ago and began transitioning over the summer. he was accepted to the catholic high school when he was still identified as madeline. now, administrators say it does not mesh with the school's catholic teachings. he says he's crushed

just yet today. >> marshal is losing endorsements. all right. there's some breaking news that we've been following trying to get information on. one person is dead and denver police have the area near the train tracks east of ohio and cherokee closed off near the washington park west neighborhood. we don't know really how this person died. yeah, that's going to be a big areat avoid this morning. it's going to cause some pretty big slow-downs for a lot of folks traveling through that part of town. we're seeing a couple of other things going on in the area this morning specifically up on the north end where we had our first accident of the morning at 52, and and another stall showing up on dry creek in the eastbound direction near university. so my friends that are close to the tech center that's going to cause you some minor delays. there's that

is home coming week at legacy high school with that big game expected to happen on friday. that is up in the air right now as officials take a closer look at the players and the coaches and determine whether or not they are both mentally and physically fit. of course right now of course the focus of the school community is all about the family of the bus driver who passed away and also the 3 coaches who remain in the hospital with some of the more serious injuries. yesterday we saw a tremendous response students who are supporting -- or wearing -- excuse me -- school colors in support of their classmates also using the hashtag legacy strong on social media as well. big response interest that. and they will did this. >> they told us to write a message, an inspiring message pass around the school and hopefully it makes its way back to the football players. >> reporter: so again the 3 coaches are continuing to

the woman shot and killed in aurora over the weekend. she was found saturday in an apartment. james anthony draper a person of interest in the death was arrested a day later after leading police on a chase in a stolen car. a man accused of killing his girlfriend's infant daughter is already on parole for a similar attack 3 years ago. the 24-year old confessed to hitting 11-month old martinez with a chair. the girl died friday. in 2013 he pleaded guilty to che . in that case the child had a broken arm, hundreds of bruises and bite marks. today former president bush will be in colorado springs for a job fair. the transition

broncos linebacker marshal took a knee before the anthem. it has already cost him several sponsorships but says that won't stop him from doing it again this sunday. he's meeting with with denver's police chief today. >> yes, he is and that's important because part of this silent protest was in response to treatment of my more rate tees by police and that's a statement that kaepernick made when he decided not to stand since then we've seen other athletes join the protest including marshal. now, all eyes were on him thursday night. marshal played in college with kaepernick and he says he prayed about it and thinks it was the right decision to join the protest. he's posted a lot of the feedback on twitter that's also where he made the announcement yesterday that he's been offered a meeting with denver police chief robert

ask his followers to submit questions to the police chief. he's telling fans to use the hashtag ask the chief. marshal says he'll pick person questions and pose them to the chief. number 54 has been in the middle of this controversy since deciding to join the protest and says he's got a lot of hateful responses. >> people have commented or saying they wish i'd break my neck all they want. >> even during his protest he says he's donating money to veterans groups and he'll have less money coming in. his protests have cost him 2 scholarships both century link and air academy credit union have dropped him. well, at least he's doing something positive here with meeting with denver's police chief talking to him hoping to make that relationship stronger. >> and i think that's what some of those players wanted to get at, something deeper, a bigger conversation than just them.

one person is dead and denver police are investigating they have the area near the train tracks east of ohio appeared cherokee closed off near the washington park west neighborhood. santa fe is closed in both directions and ellsworth. we do have a live crew on scene and we're continuing to try and keep you updated on this. we don't have a ton of information to pass onto you right now but that is problems for us this morning. also we're starting to see a few more accidents pop up on our roads out there. the screen is starting to get a little bit more lit up especially along parts of i-70 out to the west and down to the south where we've got pretty big slow downs and delay on c 470. we've got an accident near platt canyon road. pretty big slow downs.

downs along santa fe in the northbound direction one lane at this point is blocked at iowa. so it's getting to that point of time where we've got quite a few things going on this morning. >> and folks are going to have to scramble to get around that closure. for us it is foggy. we had some showers overnight that have left many areas damp. those storms are now up in nebraska. we'll have a bit of clearing before more thunderstorms return. so by lunchtime you get some sun. so if you're in direct sunlight it will be comfortable if you're in the shade it may feel chilly this afternoon. thunderstorms return for us this afternoon and this evening. the overnight rain generally gave us a 10th of an inch or less. during the afternoon we could see a quarter to half an inch of rain that's a nice downpour in a few areas.

and when the clouds build back in we start dropping temperatures down late in the day. we'll see some mid-day clearing. thunderstorms start in western, central colorado and the front range, fairly quiet over the eastern plains for the rest of the day today as clouds settle in but showers really don't pick back up there. moderate rain for the front range through central colorado and down out along the colorado river late this afternoon and evening. it will be warmest in the valleys pretty close to 80, 60s and 70s for the east. today 69, mid-day sun, afternoon storms pretty big storms in a few location up and down the i-25 corridor here. through sunset it remains cloudy overnight a foggy start but the fog leaves earlier tomorrow. we jump to the 70s, i like our storms again for tomorrow less so on thursday, and rain chances pick up again on friday afternoon.
