hours. it has since reopened. a car hit a person just before 3:30 this morning and again shut that down. they were taken to denver health. tracy federal just opened again about 15 minutes ago. so hopefully not too many delays in the area. >> yeah. looks like traffic is moving through. all of those lanes there are reopened. that's some good news. it did close double for several hours. federal indiction sixth, a lot more cars getting out theren the roadways. starting to see more still green lights. not causing any roadish shoes as we start to see more and more drivers. as we look across the metro area, relatively quiet morning. another accident just reported there. looks to be just a fender bender. more details on that accident coming up. happy friday, guys.

weekend. marty coniglio is in the 9 news. sounds like we could see some rain. >> one or two spots could see some rain. last night we had enough clouds in the area to make for a phenomenal net around the area. rob begin grills with that shot. kathy seekers posted this to our facebook page. it was sharp on the tail end of some of those showers that we had move through. fair weatherer clouds out there this morning. the predawn sky looking extremely nice r it's quite cool. upper 40s and low 0s from now through 8:00. . slowly warm up into the 60s, 70-degree range by lunch time. then low 70s this afternoon. now, i do see a possibility of some light showers this afternoon between about 3:30 and around 6, but it will be here, there, certainly not everywhere. i do anticipate this will be clearing out a little later in the evening. i hope that works out for us, because we're

it's been a homecoming week themed legacy strong for these students. the legacy high school football team will play prairie view tonight in their home coming game. and get this, prairie view made them banners to show the support for the rivals. we really need to give all these high school students big credit for maturity during this time. westminster high school brought a cake to the legacy team dinner. you know, at this point, sunday's investigation, it's still under investigation. we know 28 players plus coaches were on sadly that bus driver driving the bus, carey chopper, died in the crash. student, coaches went to the hospital directly following that crash. according to the adams 12 five star school's web site, coach matt krupa is still in the hospital recovering. they will have an interim coach coaching that homecoming game tonight. it has been an incredible week being a part of this community, just cover being high school and all the support they have received from

wearing a lot of their school spirit gear, especially on that monday, when it was supposed to be a whole different homecoming themed day to begin with. a big think to their community for letting us be here, sharing their story all week long. truly an incredible time to see these high school students and coaches. everyone really coming together. >> such an emotional week this week, colleen, emotional game tonight. thank you. this morning, a special ceremony will happen for two men who lost their they care deeply about? low vie shirley and jordan manager tag earth were killed in syria this year. they were not members of the u.s. military. mctagart in castle rock. they died about a month apart. their bodies will return to colorado for a proper burial. a special ceremony for the returned is planned at union station this morning. the sedge wick county

in court today. tom hannah is set to have a status hearing. court documents say a sheriff told a deputy last month he was beginning drive a female prisoner in his personal truck to the logan county jail. instead he drove her to his home. the woman says he told her to undress, then was offered money before the attack. the -- collins police officers who shot and killed a man last month did it to protect themselves. that's the conclusion from the district attorney. the ta cleared saying the officer was justified. police say 63-year-old jerry jackson broke into his estranged wife's home last month. when police showed up, he came out of that house with a knife. police say he would not drop the weapon. the officer's stun gun did not stop him from advancing, and the officers then shot him. district attorney cliff rydll said jackson had told multiple people he was going to make the police shoot him. denver police have a warning to the owners of ford trucks. they're being targeted by thieves.

of last year. police are trying to figure out why they've been such a popular target. they recommend something more than a basic car alarm. >> you have shock sensors, tilt sensors. you have audio sensors, different sensors that will set off the alarm before someone gains entry into the vehicle. >> the national insurance crime bureau says, across the country, ford trucks were the most stolen last year. after tropical depression julia has ramped back up to a tropical storm. the storm's currently planted off the coast of the carolinas, bringing heavy rain to the east coast. it's expected to stay there over the next few days. tropical storm karl has formed in the far eastern atlanta. it doesn't look like it'll affect the east coast as of right now. marty, so what does it look like in terms of karl? where is heeded? . >> so far out there in the atlanta, even several days out. we're going to see this thing just kind of hanging

so i've got a wide view here for you. we see both tropical storm julia there on the left and tropical storm karl on the right. again, it is just off the coast of africa. it is anticipated to make a solid westward move, go to hurricane strength by wednesday of next week. but again, already starting to make a right-hand turn before it gets close to the main land u.s. and this reminds me of something that's going on now. the u.s. is in the midst of a record since we've had a major hurricane make landfall in the u.s. it was october 24th, 2005 when wilma just clipped across south florida. this hasn't happened. 1900 to 1906, and 1860 to 1869 were the tropical waves previous longest streaks. >> we would like to extend that. >> we're doing okay. >> thank you. she's done it before, and

off after that. i don't really see much rain for very many locations today. i've been saying this all morning, though. there's a small possibility for some lightning in a few spots. so if you hear thunder, you do want to take shelter while that's occurring. temperatures in the lower 70s today, cooler than yesterday with 50s and 60s in the mountains and foothill. yesterday, we have the big thunderstorms on the plains. today we keep it dry in the west. not really very active in central part of the state, summit county up to grand county, then up and down the i-25 corridor, and as far west as perhaps fair may and even salita and buena vista during the afternoon. not much to these showers at all. even if they do build up, they're going to be very short in their lifetime. we have 7 0s out west, 60s and 50s in the mountains with low 70s here. it does get a touch warmer in

morning and isolated, isolated afternoon storm. they're going be weak, and they're not going to last very long. hopefully we'll get things cleared out of here shortly after 7. harvest moon rise is at 7:17 this evening. any showers tomorrow are going to like the higher terrain better than here on the plains with mid to upper 80s into the early part of next week. so summer is ringing out every last moment of its season, because next thursday. another accident to report. this accident on conditionia boulevard, outbound and 40th. just a fender bender there. this is willing the opposite direction. a few stars getting out on the roadways. not seeing any major issues so far. we've had a couple accidents. that one accident on federal and jewel. that intersection is reopened. traffic flowing through that

just this one accident causing some slow downs as you're heading out of the airport. expect to slow down just a little bit. otherwise, i-70 now, we're still looking at green lights, taking about 8 minutes from i-25 -- on the west side, still green lights as well. relatively quiet. we'll be monitoring it all morning. samsung's hottest new phone is being put on ice by the u.s. government. the u.s. consumer product safety commission says such a fire hazard it is being recalled. the batteries are overheating, which has caused a series of fires that have hurt people and damaged property. the recall means the fda is banning people from using the phones on plans. there's a long list what you can't do. the phones can't be on. they can't be charged. you can't have them in a checked bag. customers have to check the power switch them to

megan rapino knelt during "the national anthem" before an international friendly thursday night. she's done this before with her p rush houro team, but never while wearing a team usa uniform. rapino tells,sppn she's representing her country in a different way. the u.s. soccer federation was not happy with that display, releasing a statement that read in part, quote "as part of the privilege to respect your country, we have an expeat the flag while the national anthem." . so that's -- you really want to leave a gift to the school that meant so much to him. when the school finally announced what they were going to do with that dangerous donation, it made a lot of people angry. why are some are calling -- a disgrace to his soul. let's check out weather and

good morning. >> later in the day, a few areas, very small areas of showers during the afternoon. most of us are going to end up dry. pollen taking a little break today, down to modern level for weeds. grasses are low today, so you might be feeling slightly better. as far as severe weather goes, we keep it south and east of the border. even if we have a storm, we're not anticipateing the strength of storms we saw during the day yesterday. nice sunny start to the day. byry perhaps a shower or two. it's about 80, 90% of the front range and metro area will stay dry today. heading out on the roads this morning, it's been relatively calm and quiet. a couple accidents. i-25 southbound just right around colorado. that's where we're starting to see those slow downs. looks like traffic is moving through pretty fluidly. every now and then just a couple slow downs. not causing any major impacts on your drive time.

homecoming week? is it appropriate to do so? they made that decision earlier this week that, yes, you know what? we are going to continue with homecoming week. we are going to play that game friday night. that game 7:00 p.m. tonight. not here at legacy high school, but where they plan to play the homecoming game against prairie view, north stadium in westminster. they are expecting a very, very big crowd, and i'm sure people are just going to come out and support this high school and this team, and everyone, this community, because really they have been showing their support all week long since that bus crash on together to say, "hey, we stand behind you. we are legacy strong with you." . they will play prairie view -- actually made banners to show their support for their rivals at legacy high. and westminster high school brought a cake to the legacy team dinner. when you think about it, these are really high school teenagers, but the

shown supporting each other has been a real special thing. you remember sunday, september 11th, what happened near dia, that is still under investigation. 28 players plus coaches were on that bus when it crashed near dia. sadly that bus driver we've within telling you about, she died in the crash. students and coaches went to the hospital, according to adams 12 five star schools on their web site, they still have coach matt krupa recover being morning in the hospital. our thoughts, prayers st players, the staff, it's been a real tough week for them. but they've really come out strong from all of it. and specifically that monday when i was out here, it was so special when they changed that first day of homecoming week from college colors day to legacy spirit day, telling everyone, "let's support this team. let's support our high school, and wear our legacy gear instead of our college colors here." it's been great to cover these people, because, gosh, these teenagers are sure acting like adults in

it's held events in in the past. hillary clinton is going to be in washington, d.c. today. she'll be speaking at the black women's agenda symposium. clinton is back to a full schedule after her diagnosis of pneumonia. last night she was with president barack obama at an event where they addressed latino voters. donald trump's campaign says the candidate now believes president barack obama was born in the united states. trump told "the washington post" he, quote, "wasn't ready to answer whether he believes obama was really born in hawaii," trump's campaign came out, saying trump does believe that. trump is famous for the rise of the birther movement, claiming president obama was born outside of the u.s. and, therefore, ineligible to be president. hillary clinton says the statement isn't good enough, calling on trump to save himself. trump telling fox news this morning that he will make a statement on the birther comments later today. we got the first reaction from vice president joe biden to this news out of

looks to be a fender bender. >> thank you. today we continue hero's week with a group that's very close to my heart, firefighters. many of you may not know that the international fallen firefighter memorial is right in our own backyard in colorado springs, and 5 to 7,000 people from all over the country and canada are headed there for the annual memorial ceremony today. recently the memorial went through a huge multimillion dollar renovation that truly everyday heros. >> we have 12 names very being added to the wall. >> reporter: courage, family, sacrifice, just a few of the words that describe a hero. 7,400 names are listed on these halls, firefighters dating back to 1918. the center statue, a bronze firefighter rescuing a baby has never been moved since the first walls went up in 1988. a firefighter at the front

the guards on each end watching over our heros at all times, the guardians of the fallen. one section of the wall is a heavy reminder of the sacrifice made by these heros, 343 names. mike smaldino is a colorado springs firefighters, one of the many that makes this memorial what it is. the names on these walls to him are so much more. >> i was in new york the week before my wife and aunt and uncle who lives there. his fire station was right below my uncle's apartment. >> reporter: on that trip, mike met a young firefighter named christopher san tore area. he just started his dream job to be a firefighter for the new york city firearm. >> then the next week, september 11th happened. as they started identifying everybody and they were talking about the names, his name popped up. >> reporter: santora wasn't even on duty at the time; he just got off shift.

raced back to the fire house and toured the burning world trade center. he died at 22 years old, just after -- months on the job. >> over the years, you get to know people, meet people. you see their names come up here. when you ask, "what does it mean to me." you start recognizing these names, and you kind of know the families and histories behind them. for me that's what's powerful. >> reporter: ever name has a story. you've heard mine before. this -- steven son was added to wall. a los angeles firefighter for 02 years, gone much too soon at the age of 57 from an aggressive cancer that was ruled a line of duty death. >> his youngest brother. he died when he was 48. >> reporter: families come here for many reasons, an etch, a memory, or to find peace. >> he left two little children, and a wife, so --
