>> you talk about a day of mixed messages from the campaign, kellyanne conway comes out and says, yes, donald trump believes president obama was born in the united states. donald trump says, i'm not going to answer that question right now. i'll answer it when the time is right. later a statement from the campaign said, actually, donald trump should be given credit because he forced president obama to produce that birth certificate. so, what is the answer? will we get clarity on that today from the candidate himself? >> let's be clear on what happened here. when donald trump made that campaign on the birther issue a few years ago and the president produced a birth certificate, donald trump at that moment didn't stop. he kept talking and tweeting for years after the fact saying that he was turning up new information that the certificate the president produced was false. so this narrative they are trying to put out there this was donald trump trying to do some sort of public service -- he was the guy that took something that was sort of happening underground 2008, 2009, 2010, and exploded that on to the mainstream. donald trump did not let up.

lot of energy is stored inside a tiny little device. >> reporter: samsung says the replacement phones arriving wednesday will come with new batteries made by a different supplier. meanwhile, concern this morning about other samsung models that may also catch fire. in new york, a 6-year-old suffered first degree burns when a samsung core allegedly caught fire. in florida tuesday night, a car gutted by fire after another galaxy phone allegedly exploded. meanwhile, a california man has fi second and third degree burns on his leg when his s7 edge caught fire. the cpsc says it is now looking into those reports as well. samsung declining to comment on but it does say it believes the defective batteries are in the note 7 which are now on recall. customers can either exchange the note 7s for replacement or get a full refund. >> tom, the airlines had asked customers don't turn on the phone, don't charge the note 7 if you are on a plane.

could it be airlines say don't bring them on at all? >> yeah, i think so. the faa now expected to ban the use of the note 7 onboard commercial planes. that's no longer voluntary. banning the use of them. the fear is that a run-away fire involving batteries onboard a plane is just extremely dangerous. >> terrifying to even contemplate. tom costello, thank you so much. now to the frightening scene here in new york city on thursday. a man attacked an off-duty police officer when a meat cleaver. the height of the evening rush hour. police say officers confronted the man when they saw him trying to remove a boot from a car he apparently was living in. this video was taken moments before police confronted the 32-year-old. when they approached him, he pulled out an 11-inch meat cleaver and ran. after a brief chase, the suspect hit one detective in the face with the cleaver. three police officers opened fire wounding him. he is in critical condition. the detective who was hit with the cleaver is now listed in

also this morning, the house intelligence committee is urging president obama not to pardon former nsa contractor edward snowden. a committee report accuses snowden of leaking information that caused tremendous damage to u.s. national security. the report says snowden is not a whistle-blower as he claims. a bipartisan letter sent to the president says that snowden's claim that he disclosed information to protect americans is "undercut by his actions." snowden's attorney denounces a genuine american hero. a school bus driver in new jersey is out of a job this morning after dramatic video surfaced showing the driver swerving across the yellow line into the wrong lane to get ahead of a slower moving fedex truck. the bus company said it fired the driver wednesday night after seeing the video. there were no students on board at the time. fedex says it is looking into the incident and police are investigating. dylan is here for al with a

rocket in chicago is here with a great one-pot meal. >> what are we making today? >> this is one of my favorite dishes at rocket. it is hearty, it's got some spice but it is really healthy with ingredients like chicken, garlic, green peppers, jalapenos, tomatillos, all kinds of good stuff. first we're just going something really easy here. season with a little salt and pepper. i'm using chicken thighs here. i like chicken thighs because they're just tastier. and we're just going to brown them on each side which will also kick up the flavor profile a bit. you're just doing this right here in your pot. you are going to use the same pot the whole time. once you brown it, it will look great. add some chicken stock to cook it all the way through.

separate it. you can use turkey or pork, if you want, by the way. totally mix it up. then you go et to your vegetables. we've got green peppers, on yoonions, just sweat that out to get nice and tender. then hit it with a little bit more salt. then just add the garlic, jalapenos for a little bit more heat, cayenne for some heat. want it to sweat at the appropriate rate and also get the good mix going. tomatillo -- >> you're putting some spice in here. >> i know. >> we are also going to be sweating at the appropriate rate. >> i know. then shredded chicken. you can use rotisserie chicken if you want to cut all those steps. or even leftover chicken. throw it all in. after about 30 minutes of turning the heat down and letting it simmer, now smell

back home this morning the bodies of levi shirley and jordan mactaggart arrived at union station earlier today. they were both killed in syria...earlier this year while fighting with kurdish forces against isis. shirley is from arvada... mactaggart is from castle rock. more than 5- thousand firefighters and their family members are descending on colorado springs. they're heading to the international fallen firefighter memorial to honor our fallen heroes at the annual ceremony tomorrow. 123 names are being added to the memorial this year...and will join the more than 74- hundred already on the walls. the ceremony is free and open to everyone. marty coniglio join us... we'll see you over on channel 20 for
