delay. right now, you can see the brunt of the cell right over the city. about 57 strikes within the past 20 minutes lightning. it is such a small cell, but it is creating quite the wild friday evening for a lot of folks. pea to marble sized hail within this storm system. as it is tracking to the north and to the east. a couple of rain showers out there across greenwood village, also, down to the parker area. these should be winding down within the next hour or there's the view looking at coors field. a couple of rain drops on the camera lens. we have been treated to quite the lightning show. the good new is christine, the weather should be quiets down quite a bit for the weekend. sunshine is back. warmer temperatures. you won't want to miss that extended forecast. >> a lot of folks wanting to see the fall colors this weekend. good news. thanks danielle. well, denver police have lifted orders for people to shelter in place on the campus of rose medical center and surrounding buildings.

since then, police have been searching for a person of interest after reports of a man seen with a rifle. 9news reporter vicente arenas says it has been a stressful few hours for a lot of people. >> reporter: a few minutes after reports that shots were fired at rose medical center, the hospital was put on lockdown. everyone inside the building, staff, and patients were told to shelter in place. george maloni's wife had just checked herself in. >> i'm scared of real soon. >> that wouldn't be the case. for hours police would follow protocol checking every room. looking for a possible shooter. there were reports a man had been seen carrying a rifle on the complex grounds at rose medical. police made it clear there was no confirmation that shots had actually been fired or that anyone had been injured. still, streets were blocked off. one of them right in front of

program director jessica was worried. >> you hear about tragedies occurring all throughout the country. active shooters. and, you just don't know what is going to happen. the extent they are going to take it to. >> i keep my camera with me all the time. >> reporter: back at the hospital, dan's wife was locked down in a room in the neo natal intensive care unit. >> not normal picture to put in the baby book. >> reporter: with his newborn baby. >> i want to go see my wife and hungry and worried but it seems like the police have everything under control and they feel like they are safe. >> reporter: he was able to talk to his wife on the phone who said she was okay. a new hours after we spoke with him, streets in the neighborhood were reopened. and the lockdown was lifted. >> that large plume of smoke rising above the north metro area during rush hour this afternoon was coming from a

firefighters contained the flames this evening and kept it from spreading to a subdivision. it burned brush across an area about half a mile and a quarter mile wide. thornton and north metro wild land crews say they will stay on scene through the night watching for hot spots. less than a week ago, members of the legacy high school football team were involved in a deadly school bus crash at dia. their bus driver carrie chopper died players were injured. despite all of that, the team decided to take the field tonight for their homecoming came. 9news reporter jonathan gonzalez says there was a special tribute held before the game. >> reporter: all day, legacy high school talked about community. the sense of support they have seen from communities across colorado and across the nation. they said that today's football game was what they needed after such an unthinkable tragedy. it was by far, the biggest

happen. >> it was the hardest of the days monday. but most of this week has been around uniting the school as a hole. >> reporter: josh and clarissa reflected about a bus crash that shook their team, their school, and more cigarette has been incredible to see the way the community has come together and the school has united together to make it an incredible week. >> we really have been focused on keeping everyone's spirits up >> reporter: they did it the only way they knew how. by taking the field. by playing. despite thoughts of one coach who is still in the hospital. they were surrounded by support in the air. the town, fellow football players. >> we appreciate the care, and effort our bus drivers provide.

out to the door. i didn't see his face. just his back. and, he zoomed out. and then i looked like this. and he got in that van. and went and picked up the other man and they left in the alley. >> denver police are investigating. the victim says she is speaking out to keep others from falling victim to this scheme. the bodies of two young men from colorado who died fighting isis in syria returned home to their families. the bodies came back in simple gray caskets pulled from an amtrak train as denver's union station. relatives of levi shirley and jordan mac taggart huddled together as the congressman presented them with folded flags. a sign of respect for the men who never joined the u.s. military, but felt a need to serve. the men died separately in combat this summer after joining the people's protection units. the main kurdish groups battling isis in syria.

her husband called 911 and members of the west fire rescue showed up in lakewood. they knew there wasn't enough time to get her to the hospital so they helped deliver baby christian right there in the closet. this afternoon, they got to reunite with the fire and rescue crew who helped deliver baby christian. >> it is so great. we rarely get to meet people again under calm nonemergency circumstances. and it is really nice to meet you buddy. >> he was really a big baby. early. >> brenna and her husband are grateful for the swift action of the metro firefighters. christian was born nine pounds and is a healthy bouncing baby boy. well, the inauguration of a new beer pipeline in brussels belgium came with a big party this evening. it replaces hundreds of trucks that for years had been traveling cobblestone streets to transport beer to a brewery

little glimpse of some clearing skies and the hope that maybe we can capture that gorgeous harvest moon. look at this one. downtown denver all lit up. still a couple of rain drops on the camera lens, but the storm is gone. the sunset was spectacular. just to the west of longmont. and then, around to the east for moon rise. and, that moon is just stunning out there. a day in the low 70s across the front range. warmer along the eastern plains. 50s , 60s pretty comfortable along the western slope. temperatures only warming up as we head toward the weekend. right now, out at the airport, there's the thunderstorm. temperatures have cooled off a little bit into the upper 50s . the winds out of the southeast at just six miles an hour. here in the nine backyard, our temperatures also right there at 59. very nice evening. love that smell of some fresh rain. you can see on hd doppler 9, this is the only storm cell pretty much that is in colorado right now. and it is just smack dab right

to the north and to the east of town over the stapleton area. close to about 90 lightning strikes or so. you can see it is going to be a fast mover over to dia which might slow down air traffic just a bit. but it should be fairly brief. we will be watching the skies clearing after midnight. so, if you are still up, a great capture of that harvest moon. we would love to see your shots. light wind, quiet and calm once we get rid of that storm cell. 40s and 50s . certainly a chilly one up kind of cold especially for the north western side. and south western side of the state as they are sitting under a freeze warning until 9:00 tomorrow morning. upper 20s , lower 30s . you can feel the change out there. these storms starting to move out tomorrow morning. we are back in business with all that sunshine. 8:00 a.m., we are looking good across the state. until the afternoon when a few clouds start pushing into the city. i really am not anticipating any wet weather for your saturday. so things are looking good. however, if you are down there

thunderstorms. they move off into kansas and nebraska. some of those might turn severe. this will be the area we are looking for trouble tomorrow. the biggest threats, large hail as well as damaging winds. winds 60 to 70 miles an hour with the worst of it southeast colorado. into the panhandles of oklahoma and texas. so, tomorrow, here in denver, fantastic. seasonal. right where we should be. with those storms bubbling up just to the east of the corridor. low 80s we stay in the 60s from the foothills tall way up to the mountains. grand lake, 64. it should be a fantastic day if you want to take an adventure up in the mountains. now is the time to look at the leaves. mid to upper 70s in the i-25 corey rose looking good. it should be fantastic going with mostly clear skies around 7:00 p.m. as the rapids take the field out at dick's. 73 degrees.
