it quick at first, but it wasn't working out. we said, okay, if he holds it, we are either going to get sacks or picks. it worked out both ways. >> our defense, they're playing exceptionally well. we know we have one of the best defenses in the league, the best secondary in the league. von just showed what he can do. it's fun to watch those guys. a whole bunch of pro bowl players out there. >> touchdown denver! >> the defense has said they don't need to be better than last year's team because they expect the offense will be. but so far, they have been. still at the stadium, rod mackey, 9news. >> man, rod sounds sick. i sure hope i'm not sitting next to him on broncos tonight. the season just started but the broncos already have sole possession in the afc west. everybody else has one loss. the raiders were beaten by the falcons and set a record for

1,025 now following a 35-28 loss. in san diego the chargers blew out the jaguars. philip rivers tossed four touchdown passes, including one to tyrell williams who worked for his points. chargers win 38-14. and the kansas city chiefs were beaten by houston. former broncos quarterback brock osweiler is still unbeaten since in texans. texans win 19-12. martin truex jr. got a flat tire today and still won nascar's chase for the championship. the 10-race tournament began at chicagoland speedway where truex overcame a blown right front on lap 68 to take the checkered flag. the third victory of the season for denver-based furniture row racing. the only one beg chased now is truex. >> everybody plans for this. everybody comes here to try to
10:32 pm
everybody comes here thinking, we've got a shot at it. we were no different, so it was awesome to come here to execute, get the job done. rockies swept a series for the first time in two months today. rox beat san diego in lower downtown completing a three- game sweep of the padres. mark reynolds gave colorado the lead with a 4th inning home run. rockies win himself to quarterback andrew luck in the still of the night. >> i have my bobbleheads situated in such a position tonight that you can easily imagine a game clinching strip sack, can't you. >> it's almost more vivid than the game. >> except luck holds on to the ball in this scenario.

hbo's "game of thrones" won for best drama. >> the series has now won more emmys than any other prime time show in u.s. history. the winner for best is always repeat. that went to veep starring julia louis-dreyfus. >> i have to start watching tv.
10:36 pm
broncos tonight. >> i hear it rots your brain.
10:37 pm
10:38 pm
10:39 pm
anderson. and luck will be sacked. >> this is miller.
10:40 pm
broncos tonight. drew soicher, rod mackey, mike klis, and chad brown. rod's got a cold so right defensive end is a good position. following a victory over the colts that's seven victories in a row dating back to last season all seemingly by the same formula. >> if it ain't broke, don't fix it. get that ball, tell the offense the defense gets itis special in the fourth quarter today. >> the '85 bears, i'm going to have to go back and look at the '86 bears and study that. >> that would be interesting. >> the 2000 ravens, i've got to look at the 2001 ravens, because this broncos team has a chance to set a press department. they have a chance to become the greatest defense of all time the way they're going. it is stunning to me how good this defense is so far the year after their super bowl.
10:41 pm
that every team has. this broncos team certainly has that, and it is just that. it is a skill seat, certain belief and confidence on both sides of the ball that no matter what happens someone on this team will find a way to make a play. there's no panic on the sidelines, no panic in the huddle. someone is going to step up. >> i thought trevor siemian was just supposed to be keeping the seat warm until paxton lynch was ready. >> i would say 15 of were right on the money. i mean, he's from 10 -- from 10 to 20 yards he is very accurate. he's got to figure out something to do on these interceptions down the line of scrimmage. when it happened last week i thought it was fla concern. >> you don't want to repeat the same mistakes over and over but
10:42 pm
possible. >> absolutely. teams are intimidated by their physical nature. you've got to be careful. i think their reputation is a little bit ahead of them so those kind of things, they've got to be careful so they can avoid suspensions, but, yes, teams are intimidated. >> i heard phil sims make a good point. they're so fast the offensive players don't have time to brace themselves to defend themselves.
10:43 pm
so ferocious. >> the only one that looks that bad, kind of gave him a thumbs up, but i think what they've got to be concerned about, they've had a couple of 3rd down plays when they make stupid penalties. von miller had never sacked andrew luck. "had" being the key word that in sentence. today miller got to the qb three times. miller has nine sacks in the number 58 is in the spotlight. >> i came into the game with the mind-set i'm going to rush hard every single play. >> you really don't need a rah- rah speech going against andrew luck. he can run the ball. he's not going to take no for an answer. >> von miller, the first sack of his career on andrew luck. >> got the best secondary in
10:44 pm
behind me. i just put my ears down and run. >> von miller pushes the tackle back and meets demarcus ware. >> that's what i'm supposed to do. i feel great when i get him on the ground. that's why i dance and do all the crazy stuff when i get to the quarterback. that's what we live for. the second sack we got him, a good sack, and i was just trying to hear all. that man, we're coming all night, trying to get us to lull us to sleep. he's time to close. they've got to score. we're going to rush. >> luck in the pocket. von miller. miller's got him, and the ball is free! picked up by shane ray! >> i was like, man, shane, they took away a touchdown. he was like, what? i got to mess with him a little bit. >> and von miller with the play of the game. >> the great team wins. >> miller leads the nfl now with four sacks already.
10:45 pm
calling him the best defensive player in the league or does that title still belong to j.j. watt? >> opposing coaches have to burn the midnight oil to deal with this guy. during the course of the game they've got to adjust the game plan they spent all week building because now he's defeating that game plan. he goes out and defeats your one-on-one blocks. i think he's up in that category, absolutely. >> j.j. watt today had one 1/2 sacks. he's still three times out of five years the defensive player of the year. so von is right there >>l the best, and that is he does what j.j. watt does, plus he drops back in coverage, which j.j. watt doesn't have to do. one reason, though, von has to prove to get over watt, the report also says on von he occasionally takes plays off. j.j. watt never takes plays o. von
10:46 pm
different game plan. he was going to pass rush hard every play. that's kind of an admission that he doesn't do that normally. >> brandon marshall took another thee but this time he told you it was just to show you he's not deterred by the loss because of pressure. he wanted to stand or kneel strong, stand up for his cause by kneeling and not get persuaded by outside forces. he wanted to show courag i'm not sure he does it again. >> when you take a principled knee, you don't allow money to move you off it. >> bert take a quick commercial break because we absolutely are deterred by the loss vendorsments. be right back. that get in! let's get this win on three!
10:47 pm
football is that shane ray scooped up to score his first career touchdown? funny, he was wondering the same thing. >> guests of broncos tonight receive a gift from concord
10:48 pm

10:50 pm
i think it's broncos continue to honor some of their players in this way. john elway was the bronco of all time, and to be in with the others now, the same number that peyton manning wore, that number represents two great quarterbacks. >> we're very proud to see that number up there. my father loved the denver broncos, and the family loved
10:51 pm
never be worn again, all unveiled in a really pregame ceremony, actually at halftime. it was great. which bronco do you think of when you think of number 56? today shane ray represented the digits quite well. >> give it up! >> i'm going to ask you the first question that your mom asked you. where's the football? >> man, i spiked it, and somebody grabbed it. >> it's your first touchdown. you can't spike it. you have to hold on to that thing. >> i was so excited. it's all good. >> when you see von knock that thing loose, and it's there, and a lot of times they saw fall on the football, run out the clock, it's over. you had no interest in falling
10:52 pm
>> no, not at all. every football i've ever gotten, i score. if i get my hands on the ball, i'm going to score. i just picked it up and took off. like it's just instinct. >> and they were coming. >> they can run, but i was getting in the end zone. >> that was number one for nfl. how did that feel when you crossed the goal line? you knew ball game over at that point. >> it was amazing to hear the fans and their reaction, and having my first touchdown in such a big game. this league so i definitely appreciate it. >> with all that said, what the viewer doesn't see is what happens before we go on here, and you just keep talking about not the touchdown but the two sacks that you didn't get. >> yeah, i'm really hard on myself. i missed two sacks today. i had andrew luck in my hands two times. one time i brought him down, the other time he slipped away and i was able to get a hit on him, but i take that personally. i really just -- you know, to
10:53 pm
kind of von miller type player, then i have to make those plays. so i've got to go to the drawing board and make sure i bring gaze down. that's a great accomplishment but i'm here to get quarterbacks. >> final thing for you. one final goal. so a aqib's pick six, it's his ninth. so you have some ground to make up. >> >> pretty impressive move. >> without a doubt. he's always scoring. he's been able to do it so well in the league, year after year. when he gets in open space he can return punts if he wants. he's that kind of player. he's explosive, and he's a play maker. looking at his, i have to get in the end zone, too. we talked about it. we celebrated. he gave me a hug.
10:54 pm
>> all right, thanks, appreciate it. >> he will get much more playing time because demarcus ware fractured his arm during a shared quarterback sack. you spoke to ware exclusively's left the locker room. >> it actually happened when he banged into the helmet of von miller in the second quarter. he didn't leave until the third. he is going to be out three to six weeks right now if everything goes w. they're taking another x-ray tomorrow and hoping that this x-ray was clear through the bone. if it's a clean break through the bone, he might be out a little while longer. >> lucky they're deep at that position. >> they've got two to back him up. on the bone, you can put a plate on that and play during the season. there is a recovery time, three to six weeks, but the broncos are in a great position to miss demarcus ware because all the reps that shane ray got last year. >> and they got him in the
10:55 pm
we watched how he played in that opener. he was playing great. plus, the last time they were playing against the bengals, he's the one that came up with that fumble recovery. >> broncos get a break from future hall of fame quarterbacks next week. it's just andy dalton. guess who leads the nfl in passing. >> i looked up his stats. 54 passes which makes me think the broncos are just licking their chops. there's no one that -- they beat two number one they beat cam, they beat andy dalton. >> cincinnati has a pretty good offensive line. their left tackle is one of the best in the league. the broncos defense will get a tough contest out of the cincinnati bengals. >> a.j. green is a different type of receiver than they've seen. demarcus ware, this might be a matchup where they do miss him right off the bat.
