school will look to each other for support- after losing one of their classmates. more students are adding gifts to a memorial to their friend 17 year-old kyra connolly a castle view high school senior was killed in a crash near the school yesterday morning. students left notes and rememberances... while castle rock police collected evidence nearby. police say connolly was driving on the wrong side of the road, sideswiped a car... and collided head

truck. castle rock police say the driver of the delivery truck was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and was released. investigators are still trying to figure out what caused connolly to cross over to the wrong side of the road. a 71 year old woman was just trying to help some teenagers out... in return she got a beating and nearly died. boulder county deputies say the woman picked up some teenage hitchhikers monday night. she offered them a place to stay in jamestown for the night. police say one of the boys attacked her. the woman is in the i-c-u this morning with a significant head injury and multiple broken bones and cuts. the two other teens stayed at the scene and told a neighbor what happened- they say they didn't want to hurt the woman. the suspect got away- by hitching a ride with another driver. police think a

drove far away. this is a picture of the suspect. they think armando olaciregui hit and killed the bicyclist june 12th near east first avenue and north gilpin street. nobody's seen him since the crash... investigators think he might have left the country. anyone with information can leave an anonymous tip with metro denver crimestoppers. you could get a reward. later today- we expect the prosecution and defense to make their first points... in the trial of christopher gebers. gebers- is accused of hitting and killing a colorado state patrol cadet and injuring a trooper back in may of 20-15. cadet taylor thyfault died in the crash and trooper clinton rushing was injured. attorneys for gebers plan to argue the state patrol didn't follow its own policies during the high speed chase. they also say e patrol had no reason to pull gebers over. gebers is charged with first degree murder and attempted murder. opening statements

the man who shot a northglenn police officer- will likely spend the next few decades in prison. 24 year old adrian moya pleaded guilty to attempted first degree murder this week... for the december shooting. moya was the passenger in a car pulled over by police at a gas station on huron street... he tried to run... and started firing at officers. a bullet proof vest saved one officer's life. moya reached a plea agreement- so he'll spend up to 32 years in prison. if you drive by presbyterian saint luke's medical center today think don't worry--it's only a drill. the hospital will be preparing in case it has to deal with a massive influx of patients. the drill gets started at nine today... and should be wrapped up by noon. by now- the area near the national western complex is probably nearly empty. crews have been clearing out the large homeless camp there since monday. the department of environmental health says it's unsafe for the people there to stay.

the camp. the city has been warning people there for several weeks to move out before this week's clearing. it plans to store any collected items in a safe location for people to pick up - the same thing the city did in march. nine homeless people and their lawyers are suing the city over that cleanup initiative... among other complaints. they say having their possessions taken away was unfair. a dangerous night

protesters are still on the streets of charlotte... after a night of nonstop protesting and violence. charlotte police shot and killed 43 year old keith scott last night... officers were looking for someone else when they spotted scott in his car. they say the african american man was armed... and they considered him a threat. but- our sister station in charlotte says there are conflicting reports. 12 officers were hurt in the damaged marked police vehicles... and threw rocks at a news crew. a fire shut down part of interstate 85 early this morning... and protesters in one location smashed into a walmart. people are protesting another police involved shooting-- this one, in tulsa, oklahoma last week. 40-year old terence crutcher was shot after police responded to reports of a stalled vehicle on friday. dashcam and helicopter footage

one point during the incident. he was not armed. now, people want the officer involved, betty shelby, arrested and charged. officer shelby is currently on paid leave. she said she thought the suspect was high on something and was worried he'd reach into his car for a gun. the justice department is looking into this shooting. today, a homeland security committee will meet, one day after ahmad rahami was formally charged with using weapons of mass destruction. left a string of bombs in new york and new jersey. house committee members will look at how to stop potential future attacks... after at least two incidents sartuday... an explosion in new york, that hurt more than two dozen people... and a bomb in a trash can in new jersey. a bar owner spotted the suspect after the bombings... and says he did what he thought was right. rahami was caught

for airstrikes -- that hit an aid convoy in syria. the white house says it could only be russia or syrian forces... because the rebels don't have an air force. the bombings came during a u-s and russia brokered ceasefire between the two sides. under that agreement, russia was responsible for limiting syrian airstrikes. the u-s sent two strategic bombers

the bombers flew about 40 miles south of seoul... then one headed back to base in guam and one landed in south korea. flyovers are common after north korean aggression.. but it's rare fo bomber to actually land in south korea. the south korean parliament passed a resolution today denouncing north korea's fifth nuclear test and urging pyongyang to dismantle its nuclear program. heavy rain in indonesia is making a big mess today... floods and landslides have killed at least 19 villagers on the indonesian island of java. dozens of people are still missing. you can see mud piled up on top of a car... entire homes were swept away in the hardest hit areas. today people around the world- including here in colorado- will renew their calls for peace. it's international peace day.
