6:23 am
the construction slow down. where we do have a new crash is out to our drive on the east side of town it's a northbound slow down developing across 225 leading up to the approach to i-70. as we focus on the details here to the east side

6:30 am
good morning, denver. a beautiful day in store for us today. we could see temperatures reach back up into the 80s. >> yeah with fall like temperatures who needs summer, right. marty joins us from the 9 news backyard. it's like fall in the morning and gets to be summer by 4:00. >> things warm up so quickly. conditions that we have here and tons of sun. unlimited visibility across the state. it's very nice to have that without a lot of problems with the wildfire smoke. for a good part of the summer we had so many issues with smoke. latest smoke watch shows a few areas of light smoke in arizona, oregon and the thick east in the country right now from the large wild fires going in central california.
6:31 am
almost 320,000-acre burning and still an active wildfire in the state beaver creek is 75% contained it is not kicking out very much smoke obviously or we would be seeing it here. that leaves us with sunshine dry conditions here temperatures going rapidly from the upper 40s and low 50s into the lower 80s late this afternoon. so it's fairly warm around here and for the next 3 days w 0 on wednesday, a few clouds thursday and one or 2 sprinkles friday. speaking of showers this weekend broncos visiting the tampa bay. sky 9 is now headed to the intersection of parker and jewel and their live view shows only flashing lights and delays building. i do believe that's
6:32 am
stretch of parker. we'll get more information and have an update in the next few minutes. it looks like everything is off to the right side. let's take a look at 225 this a big delay forming northbound towards i-70. they've been showing us a closer look at the back-ups. we're dropping into i would say the lower 30s leading up to this wreck which side of the i-70 interchange 14-minute trek dropping into the mid-40s for average speeds. 36 leading up towards the overpass at smith road. .
6:33 am
league. >> i call it trumped up trickle down. >> no action, sounds good, doesn't work, never going to happen. >> i have a feeling that by the end of this evening i'm going to be blamed for everything that's ever happened. >> why not? >> oh, boy, what a night. one for the history books any way. the first debate record audience on both television and on te most tweeted about people last night on phones and the most watched in homes with an audience expected to reach 100 million people. >> anytime 2 can a dates debate you wonder how much of this is true. we can find out those things quicker than ever with our fact checkers. here are a few of the highlights. donald trump was dancing around the truth when he said he did not
6:34 am
at best he showed vague supported when howard stern asked him. they also looked into his statement that america owes $20 trillion, that is true. clinton focused on some other numbers the numbers that surround trump's history as a businessman saying he's filed for bankruptcy 6 times that is true, trump has filed 6 times since 1991. clinton says that is bad business. have stiffed over the course of your business not deserve some kind of apology from someone who has taken their labor, taken the goods that they've produced and then refused to pay them. >> taking advantage of the laws of the nation. if you want to change the laws change the laws. i'm run ago company, my obligation right now is to do
6:35 am
employees for my companies. >> they debate so many things, race the economy, isis, so much to cover but we in the u.s. are were not the only ones watching. russia's news outlets also covered it. they had to be particularly interested and clinton blaming russia for recent cyber attacks. >> all right. the big east question did clinton or trump to anything to millions of undecided voters. we want to know what you think. you can tell us who you think won or you didn't watch the debate in the first place. clinton bashed trump for refusing to release his income
6:36 am
she releases her 33,000 emails of that been deleted as soon as she releases them i will release, i will release my tax returns. >> i have no reason to believe that he's ever going to release his tax returns because there's something he's hiding, and we'll guess, we'll keep guessing at what it might be that he's hiding. >> clinton's health was also a pointed of conversation last night. donald trump said that presidential look does not have the stamina to deal with the pressures of the office. >> she doesn't have the look, she doesn't have the stamina i said she doesn't have the stamina, and i don't believe she does have the stamina to be president of this country you need tremendous stamina. >> well, as soon as he travels to 112 countries and negotiates
6:37 am
release and opening of new opportunities and nations around the world or even spends 11 hours testifying in front of a congressional committee you can talk to me about stamina. >> both seem pleased with their purchaseses last night as they left the stage. >> clinton went to a rally in new york, donald trump had a chance to talk with reporters after viewers thought that he seemed angry. >> we've more time before the election. and we can't take anybody anywhere for granted. >> were you mad? some people online said that yoy . >> no, i was not angry at all. i was upset that the microphone in the room wasn't working properly. >> and for some on social media
6:38 am
attention. again trump says it was all a microphone issues. >> okay. that's a hashtag. today back to the battle grounds for both parties. clinton will be in north carolina. >> 35% of people think that donald trump won the debate 58% said clinton won and i expected a lot o be in the category didn't watch. so many people watched. >> so about 2 to 1 people thought clinton won the debate. we had about 500 people that voted in the online poll in the last couple of minutes. so a lot of interest. monday's debate was actually pretty tame when you look at the television debate in the country of georgia, the country of georgia not the state. politicians got
6:39 am
that's about as bad as a debate can go. apparently one machine accused the other of being pro russian and that set this whole thing on fire. look at that. pretty tame here. it's goodn do things in a civilized way around here. clear conditions over the area, mike with this great shot looking up into that clear blue sky and some colort have going. we're a little past peak here in the northern mountains but still looks great. temperatures starting warm into the 50s with very shortly. we'll be 70 plus by lunchtime, 80 plus during the afternoon today. we continue to have issues with fire danger, it is generally in the moderate to high category throughout much of the state around here. so it's not that time of year where you can let your guard down when it

public for one day only. the victor creek gold mining company wants to open the pit for viewing today. it is 3,500 feet wide nearly 600 feet deep it is still an active gold mining operation so guests will have to stay a safe distance away. all right who won last night's debate sort of depends on who youal we bring in our political experts to get their take and see what the candidates need to do next time. . they we want out there without their friend and

6:44 am
clear sky out there this morning and it's going to be a lovely day. here in the next few hours we'll go rapidly from the low 50s to the low 60s, temperatures heading up toward 80 degrees through the afternoon today. we're so dry around here because we have a jet stream that's pushing storms to our down in the gulf of california it will spin off a few really small cloud bands this afternoon so we have a tiny chance for rain in the san juans late in the afternoon or this evening. tomorrow afternoon we'll begin to see a few more showers spread across in the western slope and thursday we actually have a better shot at some rain in
6:45 am
over parker and jewel. we've got part of jewel shut down right now but traffic is still getting through at least in some lanes but the whole intersection is going to be extremely bogged down. we have a rolled vehicle and looks like some injuries. a major delay north bond 225 leading up towards i-70. the crash is just south of the highway interchange. tang speeds down into the mid-40s. it's a 14-minute drive. our megaphone is doing so well. we're asking who you think won the debate last night, hillary, donald or you didn't watch. >> we'll keep this up throughout this next segment. so depending on who you are both clinton and trump won last night's first debate, we brought
6:46 am
>> thank you for coming in. we appreciate it. well, we'll just start with what people are voting on right now. how do you think won the debate. i have a feeling i know what you're going to say but i'll ask you why. we'll start with you. >> i think it's pretty clear that secretary clinton won the debate. i think it's 54% of the viewers, 55% of viewers agree. so, you know, a lot of the dial tests that came back last night, we were with watching this from here last night i think what was it 16 out of 20 unaffiliated voters said clinton won. even a trump supporter basically admitted i don't like hillary. it's pretty clear that she did a great job last night. >> you know, look it was a fairly strong night for clinton. donald trump i think had some good points, but he did struggle. i think he did well about the first half hour and
6:47 am
the bait on some of this needling that clinton is very good at, but if winning the first debate actually makes you president then we would be dealing with a president romney right now not barack obama. >> that's true. >> this is the first of 3. we see these polling numbers that are getting closer and closer. i think this is the beginning of a marathon. >> do you feel like -- we'll like last night was more about personal attacks or the facts? that's what a lot of people are talking about this morning. >> i think that the first 32, 40 minutes were really good talking about the issues. an then it kind of deinvolved a little bit. i was very hopeful when it started. i think that donald trump had a very good demeanor, very good responses his points about debt, about
6:48 am
barack obama. i mean he really had some good points particularly at the beginning. >> but barack obama is, you know, the only president in modern history that's leaving office with an approval rating over 50%. if the goal is to tie clinton with barack obama good, thanks. it was a debate that focused on the issues that's why i think secretary clinton did shine. she's got the experience, she understands what it secretary of state, u.s. senator, first lady and it was the first time they were able to see a contrast. >> very quick response to say this one because we're about out of time but a lot was made out of hillary preparing for this debate donald not preparing because that the his style. do you think he will prepare for the next debate and will do better? >> i think he absolutely will. i think without preparing he had
6:49 am
>> the bars was so low for him to come into here and still managed to crash into it. if we're going to lower the balance even lower next time i think he'll find a way to step over it. i think this thing is going to start getting wider and wider as we go long. >> 38% think that clinton won last night's debate. we're going to go over to channel 20 and talk to our experts more at about 7:10 thisor we'll be hosting state level debate for the 2 colorado senate candidates. they'll debate on october 11th. it's an hour that will be moderate. it starts at 7 and can be seen on channel 20 and on 9news.com. another gorgeous day are for the front range these temperatures will continue but not forever when could we see things take a turn.

last night's miami marlins-new york mets game will be talked about for years to come. welcome back. last night's miami marlins new york mets game is going to be talked about for years to come. less than 48 hours after jose fernandez was killed in a boating accident the marlins took the field for the game. he would have been the starting pitcher last night.
6:53 am
jerseys and on the pitcher's mound they drew the number 16 in the dirt. the marlins came up to the plate wearing with his batting helmet. he we want back to his normal left side of the plate and this happened. gordon hit his first home run of the season in his first at bat last night. he was so overcome with emotion after rounding the basis he could barely make it to the dug out. it was an extremely emotional moment. the players say they

night. >> all the players were crying in the dug out. it was so emotional and incredible that all the fans were standing the entire time because they knew how hard it was for team to do that. it was hard for then to play. for him to hit his first home run of the season there was magic in the air. before the home run before they took the field they thought taps were going to be it was just beautiful i don't' a special moment before last night's game between the falcons and saints, both teams joined hand in hand and created a ring of unity mid-field. coaches came up with the idea and all the players loved it. they felt
6:55 am
growing moment against injustice in american. it's a cool idea around here today sunshine for most of the state we say me a sue clouds drift into the san juans later in the day today with a light sprinkle possible in that part of the state. we're going to spend another day looking at the clock and watching clear blue sky all the way through the afternoon. today temperatures moving into the 70s we'll all crack 80 degrees today. look for 50s, 60s and 70s in the mountain and foothills. everybody is going to be dry except a couple of spots around silverton near sun set tonight, a few very light showers mainly along the ridge line. temperatures in the 80s today in fact getting into the mid-# 0s down south with 60s and
6:56 am
sunshine, not a lot of wind today or tonight. we'll bottom out near 50 degrees and tomorrow another 30-degree jump. clouds roll in on thursday. i like our chances for rain on the western slope on thursday. and then on friday small chance for showers here gets a little better on saturday and even more so sunday afternoon and evening. we're going back up to sky 9 over parker and jewel where with both directions of parkerre officially closed down because of an accident here where it sounds like with one person has been ejected from a vehicle. the state patrol just tweeted that out to let everyone know what's going on in the area. it's a bad crash. they've got a lot of folks on scene trying to deal with this investigation. some folks allowed to get through but with the tweet i've got an alternate for you when the traffic does officially get
6:57 am
intersection right now is really tangled up so the alternate that i would suggest is to use mississippi rather than parker road. parker basically cuts across at a 45-degree angel but the alternates are going to help you out. this type of slow down to be detrimental to folks. this alternate has been tweeted out so you can share it with your friends. >> all right. thank you much. it is 6:57. here's look at some of the top stories. >> good morning. greeley police say they're investigating some potential threats at some of their schools this morning. they're following this, the school district it too. police posting this on their facebook page that they're taking the appropriate measures to ensure the safety of the children. the district says that they will have extra security at schools today but both police and both
6:58 am
credible threats at this time. the threats against franklin and north ridge are similar to that repeat trend of threats of schools involving clowns. this is a story we're following join us on channel 20 we'll have more of the investigation. a high ranks air force officer about to face a court martial was found dead in colorado springs. police officers responded and found body. he was accused of raping a woman in late 2014 or early 2015. colorado is getting hundreds of thousands of dollars from the justice department to pay for police body camera. denver police will get more than $200,000. the federal agency is giving out $20 million to more than 100 locations across the country. today people in oklahoma are
6:59 am
ago. the 40-year odd was shot by officer shelby. video showed him walking away with his hands up just before she fired. marchers say they will protest african american stereotypes especially the phrase bad dude which is an officer in the police helicopter used to describe the man just before he was killed. warm today, warm again tomorrow clouds start to drift into the area coming thursday. we start picking up rain chances especially sunday afternoon. that looks like the best chance we have over the course of the weekend and next week it warms up every so slightly but then we start to slide down as we get into october we begin to see ne opportunity for rain late in the week and highs in the 60s. it's going to be to get to be more and more of a regular deal and you never know snow times too.
7:00 am
more with our political experts and our 9 care win wither. we'll good morning. face to face. good morning. face to face, hand to hand combat, donald trump and hillary clinton go after each other in a spirited first debate. >> all talk, no action. >> there's something he's hiding. >> attacking each >> hillary has experience, but it's bad experience. >> and getting personal. >> this is a man who has called women pigs, slobs and dogs. >> did either candidate move the needle? we will ask our decision 2016 team. and the vice presidential candidates tim kaine and mike pence weighing in live today, tuesday, september 27th, 2016. >> announcer: from nbc news,
