he changed his plea toing, he originally pleaded not guilty after hearing -- now, police and court documents have indicated he ingested a marijuana edible before the shooting. on the phone chris said that she hadn't seen him act that way in their 15-year marriage. >> a big hurdle the defense will have to overcome is the marijuana issue. if he was under the influence at the time of a murder it makes legally insane based on how colorado law is written. again, we should find out this morning the results of his mental state and how the case moves forward from here. the hearing at 8:30 this morning. >> all right. thank you much for that. christopher debers is a convicted murder now but we're going to have to wait to find it what his sentence will be. after 2 days of deliberation a jury found him guilty of first

patrol cadet last year he was convicted of attempted murder for injuring another trooper. his mother was in court for the verdict. >> tailer your death serves as a reminder of evil's existence. it serves as a reminder of extinction. >> tailor spent most of his life valuing the lives of people around him. he was 21 years old when he died but packed a lot into that life. >> his attorney wanted sentencing yet to get it over and done with but he's going to have to wait a while long tore find out how long he'll spend in prison. the prosecution asked for a november sentencing date so the victims would have time to prepare statements. while we don't know the exact sentence we know the first degree murder charge comes with an automatic life sentence.

to whoever was inside this suv when a bicyclist was hit and killed last month. troopers say this suv was in the crater lake area at the time of a hit and run on september 20th. holden was hit by a vehicle trying to pass him. it looks like an early 2 thousands lexus with a unique carrier mounted on the back of the car. a m ex-wife and leaving her in a burning home will spend the rest of his life in prison. a judge sentenced the 58-year old after the jury's verdict wednesday. he was arrested last october on murder and arson charges. firefighters found the body of his ex-wife in the garage of their burning home. investigators say she had been stabbed several times and that the fire was intentional.

tensions pretty high between communities and police officers these days. we've seen everyone from protesters to famous athletes pushing back. today that conversation is coming to denver. we're live with a preview of the justice forum and even the justice department getting involved in this now. >> reporter: yes, good morning. this meeting will be held this . today's meeting a second in a series of forums as efforts to really get the community involved as well as police officers involved in finding a solution, the goal for community leaders, law enforcement, other leaders really to sit down and try to come up with some solutions in all of this. this meeting comes after we have seen unrest all across the country. last night protesters gathered for a second night in california after tuesday's fatal officer involved shooting, a crowd of protesters

they marched down the streets near the site of the shooting and we're saying no justice no peace. and recently we have seen protests also in other parts of the country in north carolina after police released video showing the fatal shooting of keith scott and in oklahoma hundreds of protesters have also taken to the streets to show their support for crutcher and his family. he was shot and killed by an officer. now, we about the nfl this has become visual with within the nfl. marshall took a knee this season. he joined 49ers quarterback. and even the eagles protested during the anthem prior to sunday afternoon's game. so the department of justice announced a series of meetings. this one

it starts at 9:00. they have already held one community forum in detroit. a teenage boy is in custody after opening fire at a south carolina elementary school playground. we're learning more today about the moments leading up to the shooting. police say he killed his father before bringing a handgun to school. a teacher and another student are out of the quick response by law enforcement and school employees who prevented further injuries. >> the boy's grandparents found his father's body. the teen called his grandparents but say he was so upset they couldn't understand him. about a minute after that a call came in, a teacher called 911. police are not releasing his name or age there is no word on a motive at this point. classes are

week. the cause of the deadly school bus crash at dia is still under investigation. chopper the bus driver was killed after crashing the bus full of football players and coaches just outside the airport. investigators say they are sure though there was no mechanical problems on that bus. the denver post is reporting the investigation is still ongoing because the autopsy report on chopper, the driver is still pending. investigators still need to interview her husband too. students were all injured in that bus crash. the students were treated and released but 3 legacy high school coaches are still trying to recover. the head coach returned to the field for the first time on wednesday. he talked by the moments before the crash and what he remember afterward. >> i was just actually just sitting in my seat kind of length wise and i don't even know what i was doing. i didn't have have my head phones on we

getting back in the road and probably had my phone in my hand. >> his face was forward in 3 different places he had a concussion one other coach is still in the hospital and coach rider is recovering right now at home. he is going to teach -- coach his team friday night in their game. he's not sure if he'll be on the sidelines or coach from the press box. tonight blaze pizza is going to hold a fundraiser forhe forward their medical expenses. around here today i mentioned some of the showers in western colorado picking up around the colorado national monument. we had a few showers around grand junction. we continue to see pockets of rain moving up out of the south up into western colorado. now, we'll get a few areas of rain during the day today. they're not going to be that impressive between now and 5 to 6:00 tonight.

this election season people must really have their minds made up in some areas. more people are casting early voting ballots in key states this year than last election cycle. early voting numbers are higher in swing states in north carolina and florida. they say clinton is showing strength in both of

growing early support in iowa and maine. president obama won both of those states in the last 2 elections. meanwhile donald trump and his team are coming back to colorado again. on monday it is set to start at 6 with the doors opening at 3 in the afternoon this is his 4th recently. he's also increasing his ad time in colorado. the denver business journal is reporting he plans to spend about $1 million on in the state over the next couple of weeks. colorado is a dozen states where he plans to boost his ad buys. polls showed that clinton had a sizable lead but recently the race has tightened up.

with the lead. all of those polls were taken this month before monday night's debate. secretary clinton has not scheduled any visits right now that we know of. all right. let's check the weather. >> around here this morning it is clear in the east cloudy in the west. we've already seen some rain in the west, and it is just the beginning of a pretty wet 24 to 36-hour period with low pressure moving up into arizona pushing moisture into the western part of the state. now, some up to the divide and perhaps even the peak of mount evans. what we will see are just some clouds here and there during the day. really the only difference you will see today is it will just look visually different because of the clouds. the temperatures are going to be pretty close to the same in the 70s and low 80s with 60s and 70s in the mountains. dry in the east but in western colorado
