gary, corey and cheryl with you. marty joins us from the backyard. it looks to be a nice day today. >> reporter: it will be decent and will cloud up this afternoon so we won't have clear blue skies but temperatures will hold at or slightly below average and very pleasant. we won't have the wind we have seen. i want to pass this along to you because the weather service issued freeze warnings out through 9:00 this morning for our area, southern foothills, most of the eastern plains, and northwestern colorado. so from the denver ea collins, greeley, north and east. however, right now we're looking at folks in the mid-30s to low 40s here with some -- some of the cooler readings along the platte river so i think we could see a few freezing temperatures in weld county, morgan county, along the platte river, but around here, i just don't think we can get down to freezing this morning. we have some frost that has formed in eastern colorado.

a cool start but good recovery into the 60s this afternoon and as we get warmer, progressively cloudier today but will not rain on our parade today. a quick look at the roads north of the metro area i-25, starting to see more and more people, no major issues. that's not going to impact your drive time just yet and no major accidents out there just ye . a lot of people will have green lights almost the whole way but north of the metro area, that's where we have a little more congestion for this time of morning. corey? ? >> six times tonight i have said to governor pence i can't imagine how you defend your running mate's decision on issues and refused to defend. >> done trump said all the said

warnings are going out this morning. matthew is a major hurricane and is barreling towards the east coast of the united states right now. florida, georgia, and the carolinas. it's already done terrible damage in haiti and cuba. this is a look at flooding, mudslides, and damage in haiti. at least 11 people have died, including three children in the dominican republic. we have eyewitness footage of the storm. it has been moving thro state of arizona. it stayed category 4 storm three days and only a few storms have lasted that long at that strength. marty has a closer look. it's been windy but at the most, our gusts are 40 miles per hour. we're talking 125 miles sustained. >> that's right and when we have a big wind gust, 100 miles per hour, that's a gust. you can't imagine what 125-mile-

this is the latest satlight imagery as matthew moves northwest of cuba this morning, category 3 hurricane, sustained at 125 miles per hour over a small area but unfortunately will move over the back maples as -- bahamas as a category 3 or 4 storm, over the coast of florida and carolinas saturday before curving to sea. storm surge and rain will be huge, huge problems with several areas from central florida on the east coast through the carolinas could see more than a foot of rain along with powerful winds of at least tropical storm strength so this could be an impactful storm for millions of people on the east coast. >> people in florida, georgia,

she will also pay a $300 fine for the accident. >> 5:38 now. one of the mountain high school students accused of plotting against her classmates will be in court today. brooke higgins is one of the 16- year-olds charged as an adult. prosecutors said the two girls were working together to find weapon and attack their school around christmas time of last year. they were charged with conspiracy to commit first- degree murder under extreme indifference sent to juvenile court. thousands are wake up in shelter this morning as the beulah hill fire continues to burn. so far it's burned through eight homes and at least 16 other structure. as of last night, more than 5,000 acres burned and is uncontained right now. more than 400 firefighters have been dispatched to help out with no word on what sparked it. marty, it seems like the wind hasn't helped them at all.

there, they have had some issues. around here, we're looking at temperatures in the 30s around the area with mild temperatures through the afternoon. highs in the 60s today but cool air moves out of wyoming and idaho. we'll be dropping into the 30 and low 40s tonight and then rebounded into the 50s for tomorrow afternoon so tomorrow is the coolest of the next several days. drought continues to be an issue for us in of the front range and northwestern colorado. we have a small area of moderate drought for metro denver i-25 into fort collins and loveland. remember, we have a freeze warning out. i think the most likely areas to freeze will be fort morgan brush north and east, southern foothill, and northwestern colorado. we have just enough wind around here i think to keep us above freezing along the i-25

thank you much. now to sports news. denver broncos superstar cornerback aqib talib could be in republican for shooting himself. dallas police have finally concluded the football player was not shot by somebody else back in june. according to our sister station in texas, wfaa, talib said he heard a gunshot and fell to the ground with a shot in the leg. he refused follow-up interview with police and his lawyer spoke for m. will face charges. it depends on whether or not he had the gun legally. he could face disciplinary action, though, from the nfl. they are also investigating the incident but the bottom line now, police say he shot himself. former new england patriots tight end aaron hernandez will be back in court today this time for a double murder trial. today, it's actually a hearing to check on the status of both sides ahead of the full trial scheduled in february.

yes, yes, we know, it's still the very beginning of fall but is not stopping some folks in the high country to stop winter. the snow is running at loveland and copper look at the process from last year. loveland hopes to open before the end of october and copper mountain said you can hit the slopes octobered. they're usually among the first to start the season, overnight temperatures low enough to start making it and mother nature is providing a little of her own. >> i'm sure "a" basin will be mixed up in there, usually one of the leaders. winter for all of colorado around the corner and winter
