6:16 am
them inside. >> yeah. it's kind of like when we go from a really warm space to a cold space, they're kind of experiencing the opposite. what might happen is leaves will turn yellow and drop, and not to panic. >>reporter: don't panic. it'll be all right. >> they're just kind of going through an adjusting period. they have to adapt to their new environment. >>reporter: watch for bugs too before you bring them inside. >> yeah, watch for bugs. you want to try to take care of those things outside so you don't spread th plants you have inside. >>reporter: smart idea. what kind of guy is this >> this is a banana. >>reporter: i was going to say that, believe me. so this is going to be great then for the winter since it's nice and inside. we hope your plants do well too. holly, thank you for your expeer tease, we appreciate it. >> you're welcome. >>reporter: coming up in the next half hour, we're going to go back outside and find out what to do with the plants there. let's talk to marty coniglio. it's not really unbearably cold out there, marty, but the
6:17 am
plants are a little sensitive during the cold. >> it's a banana plant. we have a couple of issues going on this morning, tarhonda. we have the cold temperatures and we have some fog in northern colorado, especially in the valleys and we'll cover that in great detail here in the next couple of minutes. but we are going to burn that off for you during the morning this morning, but we have some dense fog. less than a mile visibility up from eastern boulder county up through loveland, fort collins and over towards greeley. we are going to get sunny here during the course morning. and there's the fog here early on. it's going to burn off during the morning. everybody gets sun later in the day. so even though it looks like an overcast, really crumby day right now in northern colorado, that's going to clear off, we'll end up in the mid-60s, pretty uniformly here at lower terrain, with 50s in the mountains. so there's that nice low pocket of low clouds and fog. should have it out of here by 9:30, 10:00, i would think at the latest. we jump into the 60s, near 70 along the eastern border with

6:24 am
to the north, you will run into some limited visibility around here. sunshine is going to be warming us up around here during the day today as we move into the 60s this afternoon. but it doesn't look too great up north right now. >>reporter: an update on an accident at sheridan and jewell this morning. the intersection is closed. two vehicles involved in a t- boant accident and serious injury -- a t-bone accident and serious injuries being reported. crewil alternate route. that intersection is still closed because of a very serious crash. we did have two rollover accidents already this morning, washington and 50th. that intersection is going to be closed through the morning hours. if you take washington into the downtown metro area, you'll need an alternate route this morning. and another rollover accident on 20th near quebec. so a series of very serious accidents so far this morning. you know, with those dry

6:31 am
do not let your guard down, that's the message to millions of people in florida this morning. hurricane matthew has weakened to a category 3 storm, but it is still a monster storm, and it is still dangerous. this was a look at daytona beach about an hour ago. rain and wind whipping around the trees there. right now it is packing 120- mile-per-hour winds in some places as it's hammering florida's coast. further inland in orlando, the rain and the wind has reduced visibility. it has also forced disney world to close its gates.
6:32 am
46 years. no wonder florida's governor is calling hurricane matthew a monster. streets of rain have been coming down sideways in vero beach, florida, and the worst is yet to come. street signs don't stand much of a chance in these whipping winds. more than 270,000 people in florida don't have power already this morning. this is the strongest storm the state has seen since hurricane wilma in 2005. there's a state of emergency from florida through georgia, into th the danger of this storm is all too real this morning. >> i talked to my detective captain earlier today, and i asked him, do you have body bags? are you prepared for mass casualties? >> that is sobering, isn't it? 11-foot storm surges are possible. that could be much stronger than the rush of water that took out parts of the new jersey shore. you remember that happening during superstorm sandy. the airlines are sorting

where they're surrounded by walls of clouds. you can see things are calmer inside the eye. >> isn't that something? >> incredible. >> here they come into the eye right now. >> i would never want to do that. that is terrifying to me. when you see the storm on radar, it looks even more menacing. in fact, this radar image taken by our sister station in jacksonville shows the pink area of the storm sort of looking like a smirking dinosaur skull. >> you can kind of see the scary. >> it is scary. >> it almost looks like it's been altered, but it has not, that is the actual image. there's a black and white version too that's kind of haunting. >> it's big. >> it's big. they're saying the size of arizona. >> we're going to have more on the hurricane coming up in just a couple of minutes including a live report from florida. but right now let's talk about the weather here at home. marty joins us from the 9 news back yard. freezing overnight in some areas. >> yeah, in a lot of areas it is, and fog in others. this is really an active

temperatures now hovering at or just above freezing in several locations. but the big issue for us here in the next couple of hours is going to be fog. we do have a ??freeze warning, goes until 9:00 this morning for most of the front range. the problem we're seeing right now is fog. this is greeley, just north of greeley on highway 85. very foggy in greeley. this is i-25 near the erie exit. we have limited visibility there, less than a mile. we have a mile in ie mile at longmont. greeley is 1/3 mile. zero visibility right now in fort collins, and we have a dense fog advisory. it starts right around highway 7 and runs up through eastern boulder county, up toward loveland and fort collins, and then extends through weld county all the way toward fort morgan and sterling. that's going to go until 9:00 this morning. now, if you're in the immediate metro area, especially 144th to the south, it's going to be dry and sunny. but if you're headed north, be

transported with serious injuries. that was the passenger of the car. the driver fled, and the intersection closed down. that driver, they say, is wearing a black hoodie. now, washington is closed from 48th to 54th, and it's impacting cars, it's impacting the rtd routes, northbound and southbound. there is a detour in place, and another thing that is causing some problems here, this ri here at 50th and washington. basically the plant manager came and said that they are closing production for the day. we have talked to many of the employees here this morning who can't get in, and many of the employees and drivers say that they have to get in there because they have to deliver meat to some of the restaurants in the area today. but since then we have learned that they have shut down production for the day. want to show you also one more shot. the car is -- the cars a little bit of a backup of cars coming down washington and they're
6:38 am
you posted and let you know when we know more when this major artery into downtown denver is going to reopen. tracy. >>reporter: thanks, vida for all the details on that closure. that's right near washington. so if you do take washington, here's a look from sky 9, washington and 50th of that intersection. that is closed off. so this morning if you haven't hit the roadways yet, you may want to go around this intersection if you use washington to head into the downtown metro area. as vida said, it coul police crews still there trying to search for the suspect or the crash. we do have another rollover on 29th and quebec. so, unfortunately, two rollovers so far this morning. another accident on i-70 heading eastbound. that's right near havana. and then another accident on i- 76. so these accidents are starting to pop up across the metro area, and we still have that very severe is accident on sheridan and jewell, that intersection blocked off as

6:40 am
>> this is a butterfly weed, very important for the monarchs. >>reporter: let's pick this up. i'll kind of pick a little piece, maybe cut it right here. so we go down and we get these from our yards. and what can we do with these? >> i'll get this one too. >>reporter: you got a better one. >> there's some seeds. oh, good god. >>reporter: they don't want to cooperate with us. so when we do go to get the seeds, what should we do with them? >> you want to have a zip-loc bag handy, and you're just going to drop them in and let them t so that they can dry out. and after about a week you can pop these open. they might pop open by themselves also while they're drying, and you can see the little seeds -- >>reporter: there's seeds in there. >> you can see the seeds inside the pod and you'll want to store them in a cool, dry place over the winter. >>reporter: so we can put these in a zip-loc bag, label them so you remember what they are, and you maybe leave them in the refrigerator for the winter?
