>> reporter: it got pretty ugly, at that point, really, from the very beginning. the candidates did not shake hands at the start of the debate. they said maybe a little pleasantry but no handshake and launch into the attack. now, that jail promise came from donald trump saying if he were president, hillary clinton would be in jail over her e- mail scandal. trump brought up the point that said former president bill clinton met with loretta lynch on a private plane while the u.s. justice department was deciding whether or not to that is true. both parties admitted to the 30- minute meeting but said they did not talk about hillary clinton's case. as trump pushed to get rid of the affordable care act, hillary clinton made the claim 20 million more people have health insurance because of the affordable care act. our fact checkers found that's true. the u.s. health department released report saying 20 million people had health insurance between 2010 and

"today" show host billy bush will not be on the job because of his involvement in the scandal. he was talking with donald trump when trump made those comments. he was the host of "access hollywood" at the time. nbc said there is no excuse for the language and behavior and said he will remain suspended during the review of the matter. >> twitter has only been around ten years but sunday's

it wasn't just twitter, though. colorodans were going throughout the debate as well. this chart showed which candidate was searched most on google. trunk was number 1 for a while early in the debate during talk of his behavior and offensive comments towards women, then back and forth the rest of the debate. as for this which words were searched heavily, check out this list from "presidential." and "russia" were among the popular words with a bunch of broncos-related terms. vice presidential nominee tim kaine will urge voters to make sure they're registered to vote. the concert will get underway at 1:00 this afternoon at the national western complex. in local politics, tonight will be a chance to hear from some of our state's candidates for senate and congress.

>> vega was just two months from retirement. >> hmm, so sad. it is 5:40 right now. we turn to the south, where nd deadly and destructive hurricane matthew have now stopped. it moved on in north carolina, but they left a mess in the middle of a flood emergency that will likely play out for days. at least 1,000 people have been rescued over the past 24 hours and the death toll in the u.s. from at least 17. some say it's higher. nearly half of those in north carolina where first responders are working in the flood waters right now, nearly 1 million people are still in the dark this morning. rivers continue to swell. early estimates show as much as $6 billion in damage to the southeast part of the country. the first batch of food aid from the united nations has been delivered to haiti's southwest peninsula.

three of nine u.s. helicopters landed sunday in the city on the outskirts of the capital, port-au-prince bringing rice and cooking oil, among other things. u.s. cargo planes arrived earlier. happening now, firefighter in summit county near keystone are working to get a fire fully contained by tonight. it started around noon on saturday just above the shooting range at the landfill. it burned 22 acres and 30% contained. people wilnt with the warm start to the day anticipating extremely dry, warm conditions across the state, especially eastern colorado with temperatures in the 70s and low 80s. combine that with some gusty wind and we could see some high fire danger out and along nebraska and wyoming border. locally, temperatures in the 70s and 80s up and down the front range. you see 60s and 70s in the foothills. that would be the average high for those of us right here in

upper 70s during the day today, sunshine for most of the day late this afternoon and clouds should thicken, a great sunset tonight. in wyoming and nebraska today, we have a red flag warning. this is extreme fire danger for our friends in southeastern wyoming and western nebraska, wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour, temperatures in the 70s and 80s, humidity down to ab we're talking about the broncos, short turnaround for them this week in san diego at qualcomm stadium, upper 60s to start that game, dropping down to near 60 later on so certainly weather should not be a factor on thursday night. we're hitting the roads once again on this monday start and begin up north and east. quick look here across highway 85 drive right around your greeley commute is looking excellent, 76 is also clear anywhere north of the denver
