station out to dia on the a- lines. both lines were completely out early this morning. the power or the communication was restored and the trains are now running on time and on schedule on both the a and beelines as of just about 5:00 this morning. so the rest of our drive nice and quiet out here. a live look at i-25 near 120th where we have no complaints whatsoever. we have some light slowdowns right around 84th avenue but northbound folks. 67 miles per hour. 66 is the average for southbound traffic. the rest of the drive is absolutely in the green. now we will head out to the backyard and check in with marty coniglio. >> thanks, amelia. smooth sailing around here. snow in the mountain areas. traction laws in effect over loveland pass this morning. snow going on there. the showers are actually decreasing a almost bit as we go. they have been hanging along

along the loveland area and berkeley pass. we will get a break in that during the course of the morning, picking back up in the afternoon. late in the day today, light, light showers. barely registers in places that got them over the front range. we could eupwards of a quarter of an inch in a few places in the mountains. above 10,000 feet, that will fall in the form of snow. we have rain reported right now in the central mountains. in the valleys. with snow up high. we ve mid-50s already. i talked about that yesterday with all of the clouds we have had. late this afternoon, back into the 70s and 80s in eastern colorado. rain and light thunder showers in mountain areas. that will head down our way late in the evening. after sunset tonight, much cooler temperatures. and cloudy skies moving in. so do anticipate a chillier day tomorrow. >> marty, thank you.

tonight between the u.s. senate candidates. >> bennett and challenger glenn will debate on 9 news. colleen ferreira joins us live with a preview. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. gary and corey. good to be with you guys. we know that brandon and kyle clark will be monitoring the debate later tonight. now, the questions are not released ahead of candidates really have no idea what could come their way. but i did speak with brandon yesterday and, you know, it's safe to say that the presidential election will come up in the debate tonight. over the weekend, glenn changed his position on donald trump. this all happened after that leak of the access hollywood tape. in the tape donald trump heard saying inappropriate comments about women. in the statement glenn said that he is calling for trump to

nominee. during the developments, bennett said that donald trump is not qualified to serve as president. remember michael bennet is the incumbent. he has to convince colorado that he is the best choice again. his track record will come up tonight for su past month about how they are planning to win colorado. and how they're different from their opponent. >> all you have to look at bennett voting record. when they think that the iran nuclear deal was a good vote, do they think the affordable care act was a good vote, you will double down on those issues. >> look where we were when i voted on that deal. by everybody's estimates they were within two to three months of breaking out a nuclear bomb. >> reporter: the debate begins

>> thank you. both presidential campaigns are in colorado. yesterday diagram i can vice presidential candidate tim kaine was in colorado. eric trump was in greenwood village on behalf of his dad. today he will be visiting the campaign office in greeley. hillary clinton will be in southern colorado tomorrow. chef has a campaign stop planned for pueblo. a fire has been brewing in westminster for mo residents about measure # a. like everything, there are two sides. one side says it's about safety. the other side says it's about money. >> it's been really overwhelming. the people of westminster have really supported our efforts. >> reporter: for nearly a year westminster firefighters have been working hard to get 2a on

discussion. >> reporter: what they say it boils down to is safety gear and equipment. they want to say in what they're given to protect themselves and do their job better. >> nobody knows westminster streets, its people and its challenges like the firefighters do. we feel it's in the best interest of this entire city that we have the opportunity to have our voices heard. >> reporter: unlike many things, measure 2a doesn't come with a price tag. >> 2 we're not asking for more money. we're not asking for an increase in taxes. >> i think it's unnecessary. >> reporter: bill christopher is a member of the keep westminster strong committee and the former city manager. his fear is down the road it will cost the city and in turn cost the taxpayer. >> i think it's inevitable down the road sometime there would be a proposition to raise tax snooze that would be possible

to be part of collective bargaining. >> that's one of our issues, keep westminster strong. i think the police would be next. that's a no brainier what is being proposed already exists in nearly every major city in the denver metro area. >> almost every major fire department, the departments that provide fire and ems services operate under some type of collective bargaining agreement. we don't feel there is used more often than not. >> reporter: those opposed say it's not the right choice for the city of westminster. >> it may not be working in other cities but it's not necessary in westminster. >> i reached out to the city. they are not taking a side on the issue. christopher and the committee believe the solution is more communication among the

down the road the positions may change and it's uncertain who will come in. i've done several stories about firefighters and their high risk of developing cancers due to the chemicals involved in the job every day. that's what this measure is about, making sure that they have a say in the safety gear to protect themselves long- term. >> i know they're out and about because they knocked on my door and explained the issue to me. >> and there's everywhere. >> yeah. >> did one juror bias lead to an unfair conviction. >> this case comes out of colorado. >> tarhonda thomas, they are already taken this case to the colorado supreme court. >> yes. they have, gary. that court decided not to overturn the lower court's ruling. lawyers are hoping that the u.s. supreme court will. so this case in question

the defendant rodriguez was convicted of groping two teenage girls in a bathroom. he was sentenced to probation and had to register as a sex offender. but his lawyer says a biased juror influenced the decision. the juror said that he likely committed the crime because he is mexican and they take whatever they want, end quote. other jurors told defense lawyer below zero that statement. the lawyers tried to appeal the case but higher courts upheld the original verdict. the case has now made its way justices will hear arguments today. that juror in question is alleged to have said that mexican men have a bravado that lead them to believe they can do whatever they want with women. now groups including the naacp encouraged the supreme court to take this case. it shows the extent to which racial bias among jurors can

decision. >> thank you, tarhonda. we hope that gary kubiak is feeling better today. he is taking this week after being taken to the hospital after sunday's game. he was diagnosed with a severe type of migraine. some doctors say this type of migraine can last anywhere from a few hours to days. they say it can include weaknesses that mimic a stroke. he had a stroke back on the football field back in 2013 houston texans which is why the symptoms were taken so seriously this time. kubiak says he is feeling better and will take the advice of his doctors and make positive health changes. the interim coach will take over for the week. people in north carolina are cleaning up after hurricane matthew brought major floods over the weekend. homes and roads are washed out

roadways. families are seeking shelter after homes were filled with water. those who were able to return home are returning to hardly anything. >> there are a few things that can be cleaned and saved but just about everything is gone. >> matthew dumped 13.6 trillion gallons of water on the southeast. the damage is estimated to cost $6 billion. around here this morning, we have a rm with temperatures in the mid- 50s for you. we get up 70 plus by lunchtime. if you can get out and about for lunch, it's a good day to do it. late in the afternoon, clouds thicken just a bit. still will keep us in the upper 70s during the day today. wind will be a bit of an issue for us. out of the west early on. that's why the showers in mountain areas as they come downslope along the front range, they will fizzle out.

continental divide. near sunset, northerly winds to the east. that is cool air that will be pouring in here for one day only. mid-70s around here today. we drop rapidly down into the 30s for this time tomorrow morning. and then we make a little bit of a rebound but not much into the 50s for wednesday's highs. a little bit of a change there, marty. >> yeah. thank you. a security guard at a tennessee hospital helped bring a 4-year-old girl home to her mom and dad. the security guard in memphis recognized the little girl and the suspect. it turns out the family knows the suspect and says they hadn't seen him in more than two years after he pulled a gun on them. the little girl doesn't appear to be hurt. >> happy ending there. >> that is for sure. coming up, we're following a police investigation of a deadly hit and run in denver. a bizarre one. we will tell you what we learned about the driver overnight. what police want you to know

>> welcome back. 5:46 right now. nearly half of americans have had their identity stolen or know somebody who has. according to this new study a lot of the people are doing it to themselves security behaviors. 30% of those don't regularly check their credit reports. another 36% bank and do sensitive business on an unsecured wi-fi network. and almost one third of people use the same password for all on accounts. blue bell is issuing another recall. this time for the cookie dough ice cream. an ohio based company says it found listeria in the product.

might see a couple of rain drops or snowflakes but it won't be heavy at all. with temperatures moving into the 50s and 60s today, the snow level will stay extremely high. coming up, we will talk about the cooldown tomorrow and just how long it will last. >> marty, we have a closure on i-25. we're just learning about this major issue northbound on i-25 as you make the approach between santa fe and 6th avenue. according to cdot i just tweeted out information that all lanes are blocked at 6th av through, exiting the highway. that's why we're still seeing movement in the area. but lots of flashing lights here. this will be a major impact to the drive. we will get a better view as they switch the cdot cameras around. i just tweeted this information out and will keep you posted throughout the morning. the rest of the drive is on the quiet side. not a lot happening. out to the west we're talking

we heard this from the two students who sent us the picture. >> it almost like -- i got a horrible feeling in my stomach to think that someone would put a hanging black woman like right across the street from our campus. we also thought about, you know, what message is that sending to black families coming up here with their black child. >> yeah. police got a few calls about the dispy technically not illegal, officers went by and talked to the homeowner. police say that homeowner was surprised that anybody was offended but agreed eventually to take it down. all right. let's check the weather. marty has that. >> around here today, we have a few high clouds herement windy out of the west. rain and snow showers in mountain areas that will hang along and west of the continental divide this morning. we may see small pockets of

wind and much cooler here. 70s for your daytime highs. 50s and 60s in the mountains, which is going to keep that snow level up about 10,000 feet today. stayed wide, we've -- statewide the pockets of rain and thunder snow this evening. we will shift some as the colder air pours in. it will be extremely windy but not very wet. generally a tenth of an inch or west on the plains. perhaps might be able to squeeze a couple of a tenths of inch of total liquid out of this in mountain areas. 60 ins in the mountains this afternoon. 70s and 80s here. 50s, 60s and 70s to the north with much cooler readings coming in tonight. west winds early and then gets much windier later in the day. let's do the planning forecast. partly sunny. a shower today. temperatures in the 70s.

conditions. about 20 degrees colder tomorrow than it will be today after drizzle and fog clears out. we're warm and dry for the weekend. >> thank you, marty. we're going over i-25 where a fuel spill has occurred along the northbound stretch of i-25. now one labor is getting through. this is between santa fe and 6th avenue. you can see the fuel there right in front of the headlights of the tow truck and the truck involved. that's a lot of fuel. blocking up or i should say spilled across multiple lanes on i-25. as we come cameras you will see a live view of the backups progressing in behind all of the flashing lights. major impacts expected here. i pulled up the drive times in regards to the slow downs. the northbound stretch of i-25 already seeing speeds at 8 miles per hour. northbound approaching santa fe, we're down to 25. out further to the west, multiple restrictions in terms of traction laws. out there across the upper

we are standing near the conoco gas station on colorado boulevard and 40th where the driver involved in the deadly hit and run was picked up by another driver and took off. this happened before 7:00 last night. a man driving a dodge charger was speeding down colorado boulevard when it hit a prius and started a chain reaction, hitting two more vehicles. the driver of the pry us was killed. the driver ran to the conoco that he may not have known. police have a vague description of the driver. they are looking for a light skinned black
