democrat michael bennet and republican challenger darryl glenn squared off on 9 news. the candidates talked everything from their own party's presidential candidates-- to their foreign policy views. senator michael bennet addressed his stance on the iran nuclear deal. moderators kyle clark and brandon rittiman asked why he has no regrets in supporting it-- even though he thinks iran will try to cheat and anyway. senator bennet went on to say-- the country's plutonium reactor is also now inoperable. he says inspectors can now monitor iran's nuclear program-- because of the deal. glenn has pushed

$400 million dollar exchange for u.s. prisoners a ransom. bennet countered saying there is nothing glenn said that could describe that payment as ransom. 9 news found that statement needs context. "ransom" implies the money was given only for the release of prisoners. it's true the united states paid iran $400 million dollars, and that money was delivered on the same day as five hostages were released. it's important to remember is the u.s. owed iran $400 million. but it was used as leverage in the exchange. the timing-- leaves room for politicians to debate this point. ' up next-- glenn's claims about a war on coal. he claimed the obama adminstration is killing the coal industry with regulations. 9news fact- checkers found -- that's not a "full picture" of what's going on in the industry. new regulation have made things harder... ...but the other thing that's hurting the coal industry-- is one thing glenn said he's in favor-- competition from other kinds of energy. most notably-- cheap and abundant natural gas is outcompeting coal. and it's been too much for coal

this morning it's still unclear whether glenn support's his party's presidential nominee-- donald trump. over the weekend he withdrew support for him after audio leaked of him making crude comments about women. but he then went back on that monday and said he supported him. when asked where his support was last night-- here's how he responded. glenn went on to say he's extended an invitation to trump to have a conversation-- saying he quote wants to know what is in his heart. there are more debates to come from 9 news. we'll host two more on channel 20. the next one - a week from today - will cover ballot questions. then on october 20th - the 6th congressional district: republican incumbent mike coffman -- and democratic challenger morgan carroll. hillary clinton

here in colorado today. shell be in pueblo to talk about the economy... ...and urge coloradans to vote. this is the first presidential election in colorado-- in which every active voter will get their ballot in the mail. clinton is expected to urge voters to return those ballots early. the event begins at the colorado state fairgrounds in pueblo at 11:30. former secretary of state madeline albright will also campaign for clinton at the university of denver. shell be there-- today at 4. be in florida this afternoon. he's scheduled for stops in ocala and lakeland. tomorrow he'll head to battle ground state ohio for a rally in cincinnati. trump's son eric was in greenwood village for a small business roundtable earlier this week... tuesday he visited his dad's campaign office in greeley. you hear it every year-- make sure to get yourself and your kids the flu shot. but this year is a little different when it comes to fighting the sickness-- because flu mist--

9news reporter christine noel went to find out why pediatrician offices are not offering the pain-free vaccine option. christine, good morning tarhonda-- good morning. this is the time of year when the flu strain begins making its rounds-- and while the flu mist--- has been offered in years past-- which has been a more popular option for kids... it's not being offered this year-- why? because medical experts say-- it's just not effective enough to protect from the flu bug. as a result--- parents and kids alike are left with the usual shot-- to fight against the virus. h cut your chances of getting the flu by 50 to 60 percent. this week-- top health officials warned they are especially worried about kids getting vaccinated-- because the easier nasal flu mist is no longer an option. while doctors understand the shot-- is not fun for anyone-- they say it is important to get vaccinated. the flu shot is recommended for

charges-- in the murders of two palm springs police officers later today. 26-year old john felix of palm springs-- is accused of shooting and killing officers jose vega, earlier this month. police say-- he also killed lesley zerebny. the pair were responding to a domestic disturbance call when -- investigators say-- felix started shooting. a third officer was also hurt. felix was arrested after a 12-hour stand off. he'll be in court

today-- we expect to see crowds of people gather to pay their respects to officer blake snyder. the st. louis police officer was killed last week. his visitation service will be held later today. the 33-year old officer was shot and killed by an 18- year old suspect while responding to a disturbance call on october 6th.. snyder was shot at point blank range. it was the first time an officer with the st. louis police department has died in the line of duty in nearly 16 years. denver police are investigating what a man suspected of causing a deadly hit and run crash was doing naked in a lake hours after the wreck. police say 25 year old tyler white was found in a lake at city park monday night. police say about three hours earlier he was driving on colorado boulevard when he hit a pruis -- the crash killing the driver. two other vehicles were also involved in the chain reaction crash. it's still not known why white was in the lake- but police suspect drugs or alcohol. police haven't released the name
