evacuations and things. this is west of parker. near the pinery. this is a brush fire. we don't know how it got started. we know south metro fire crews have responded. they are keeping us posted on their progress. a lot of people are concerned. >> and you see just how brown and dry that area surrounding that charred area is. we know how warm it was out today and has been for the past couple of weeks yesterday being the pt concern for the firefighters. good luck to them. police in westminster are asking for help finding a map that sexually assaulted a 16- year-old. he is wanted for sex assault. he was convicted -- he never showed up for his sentencing.

call metro denver crime stoppers. 710-913-stop. the fbi is looking into who left an explosive device outside of the nedder land police department. deputies did a sweep, didn't find reopened. they opened a bomb tipline. coming up at 5:00, we will check in with victoria sanchez that spent the day up in that mountain town. the legacy high school football keep has spent nearly a month, more than a month in the hospital is home again. the adams 12 school district confirmed that matt cooper was released yesterday. he is one of three coaches hurt after the bus they were in

coaches kyle rider andway and 15 students were hurt. the coroner's report also came out yesterday and there was no trace of drugs or alcohol in the driver's system. she died in the crash. she was the only person who was killed in the crash. temperatures in the 70s across the metro area. meteorologist belen de leon is -- becky ditchfield is in the 9 backyard. we are expecting it to be even warmer as we head into the day. >> reporter: when talking about the warm temperatures, we're also going to talk about dry, sunny conditions that we have here and our winds picking up steadily, becoming very windy as we get into the start of next week. we have seen wind gusts already today. some breezes out there. it hasn't been terrible for the denver metro area but some places seeing gusty conditions. we are very dry for the western

here's a look at the wind gusts. strongest gust will be at castle rock. not bad. out to our west is where they are the strongest. 18 miles per hour gusts around the red feather lakes and allens park is seeing 15 miles per hour gusts. now down to our way south, we have a red flag warning. this is going to be in effect from noon tomorrow through 7:00 p.m. tomorrow. er miles per hour gusts and relative humidity down to 13%. this area does not cover where we are seeing that fire up near that finery. this is in southern colorado. 77-degrees in broom 2350e8d.

dare are neighborhood. >> and what we are looking at, we are seeing a lot of this brush that has burned, but you see that really green area. that is the golf course area. they have a couple very popular golf course in that area as well. we are watching south metro crews dousing it with fire. look at how close those homes are. right there. and they have to be pretty concerned. again, you know, any piece of property matters. yes, these are large homes. but any piece anybody loses anything, you lose an out building or something in a fire it can be devastating to anyone. so we will keep you posted on this and worry about those evacuations. it's kind of a touchy time of day. kids are coming home from school, people are trying to rush home. and a lot of people are saying i want to rush home and get my things. they don't want you to do that. >> kudos to west metro fire. they stopped that fire, at least on that property line right before it started to approach the house.

she talked about that video from 2005 where trump can be heard bragging to billy bush about groping women. polls indicate trump has lost support in new hampshire since the release of that tape. >> and i know it's a campaign, but this isn't about politics. it's about basic human decencien be it's about right and wrong. and we simply cannot endure this or expose our children to this alone for four years. now is the time for all of us to stand up and say, enough is enough. >> the first lady has been a powerful supporter for hillary clinton. she's been working to mobilize the face of young people that was instrumental to barack obama's victory eight years ago. >> donald trump is refuting

assaulted women. at a rally in florida he said this is all part of a smear effort. he also claims to have substantial evidence against the accusations which he says he will make public at what he calls an appropriate time. he denied any inappropriate behavior with women and promised his supporters he will do whatever necessary it takes to change america. >> i will not lie to you. these false attacks absolutely hurtful. to be lied about, to be slandered, to be smeared so publicly and before your family that you love, is very painful. what is going on is agregous. beyond any words. >> trump also continued to cite the content of the latest wikileak e-mails.

is corrupt. trump is in ohio campaigning this afternoon and this evening. bernie sanders is asking president obama to stop construction of the dakota access pipeline. the request comes after a federal appeals court denied the standing rock sioux motion. a new environmental review would likely delay the pipeline which developers hoped to complete by the end of the year. the white house has not commented yet. police in boston say a 33 shooting at 11 officer. police shot and killed him late last night. he was wearing a body armor and had an assault rifle. the two officers, two various critical juice. nine others treated for minor injuries. investigators say the gunman was sworn in as a constable for the city of boston.

officers use of deadly force. which of course is standard. lego land in florida believes a threat made against the park today was a hoax. the theme park and hotel was evacuated around lunchtime because of a bomb threat. it came in as a note found in the park. no word as to how many guests were effected. they will assist hotel guests if they choose to move. regardless of the hoax they threats seriously. let's get back to that fire. >> let's do that. as we've been speaking, we have seen quite a bit of flames pop

nasdaq dropped 25. samsung seems to be bouncing back after stopping production and sales of its strongest smart phone ever. company shares were up for the first time today since they announced recalls. but the bigger question is what is causing those devices to catch fire. nbc's jeff rossen. >> reporter: i'm jeff rossen. coming we have a dramatic and rare investigation for you. we are talking about the samsung galaxy note 7 phones. so many of them keep catching fire. over 100 across the country. some of them exploding and smoking. we have seen the aftermath photos of the phones charred up. we really don't know what it looks like up close when one of those explosions happen. we have come here to ul. you probably recognize the

the forecast. news about teen drivers. aaa study shows the majority of teenagers are holding off on getting a driver's license. 44% got their license within a year of turning the minimum wage to get one in their home state. money appears to be one of the biggest factors for getting a license. young adults were more likely to get one if they lived in a house where the family made more than $60,000 a year. 60% got one wi more than 70% got a license before they were 18. but if those teens live in a home making less than $20,000, only a quarter would get one before turning 18. even fewer within a year of becoming eligible for one. some parents of students with special needs in boulder are upset with the school district after news their children will be moved to a new location next year. as nelson garcia shows us, the plan that boulder valley

are sending five engine strike team to assist with that brush fire in parker. we have seen this fire creep up to property lines and homes. a small ranch in that area. the sheriff says they have asked everyone southbound. it does appear that we don't see any new flames which is encouraging. >> we will keep an eye on this one in the next half hour. colorado has welcomed runners to train in altitude but many people may not realize how much al moe is a may have

either. let's take a live look outside where we have lots of sunshine. dry conditions. not too breezy in denver. winds are not our friend. they almost contribute to fire danger so we will have to watch that closely. highs got up to 77 degrees. that is well above our average high of 66. wind gusts expected to be stronger if you live out west over the foothills. you will notice winds pick up just a bit down to morning with places like parker, castle rock, aurora will see wind gusts around 10- 15 miles per hour. notice out to the west from red feather lakes down to nederland, we have much stronger gust in the 25-35 miles per hour range. those will continue throughout our friday. as will the breezy conditions across the front range. not gusty but breezy conditions. and extremely windy conditions

over the san louis valley we have red flag warnings in effect through tomorrow. 35 miles per hour gusts and relative humidity down to 13% will contribute to fire danger. you are also noticing the same color in southeast wyoming. red flag warning in effect for you tomorrow. temperatures also contributing to some of that fire danger. 77-degrees 78 for fort collins. in eastern colorado we are close to 80. springfield with warmer spot in the 80s right now. we have 50s and 60s in our mountains. outside of 9 news lots of sunshine. we are dry. we're at 74-degrees. let's take a look at the dry conditions all across the state. we don't have much going on for rain. and that combined with the winds out of the west, southwest have made us 33 degrees warmer right now than

32 degrees warmer in greeley. 28 degrees warmer in lineman. 21 degrees warmer around lamar. so huge, huge difference between today and yesterday. there is that radar screen. like i said not a lot going on. head down to the southeast to pick up on showers in north texas and central oklahoma. that is on the tail end of a cool front. same system that brought us cool temperatures yesterday that will push east. out to just the north west of there we have more rain and that is from our next system that is our winds as we head into the weekend and there is another one even behind this. so this one will bring in the breezy conditions we've got expected will as we get into the weekend. the one behind that one is going to cool us off even more for next week and it's also going to make us very windy come monday afternoon. we will get into all of those details in a minute. i also want to talk about nicole.

storm. that is a major hurricane. now nicole is considered a category two storm and pushing north, northeast of bermuda. maximum sustained winds at 110 miles per hour. it's going to continue to push out over cooler waters. as it does so, it will lose its strength, becoming a tropical depression as we get into late saturday and also into sunday. if you want to check out 9news.com, or also if you want to check out the facebook posts from earlier, we had a web camera going as th hurricane nicole passed over bermuda earlier. this is great place to watch it because we are safe and out of the winds that they are experiencing there. we will see as i mentioned winds pick up but they will not be associated with rain or thunderstorms. we have a very dry forecast from the western slope to the eastern plains all the way through friday evening. temperatures tonight drop together 30s and 40s. eastern plains you will be in the middle 40s for lows. in the mountain areas we're

40s. and then upper 40s out across the western slope. tonight here in denver we are calling for mostly clear skies. it will be gusty in our foothills. breezy down to the south where we have the fire near the pinery. winds out of the south will be around 10-20 miles per hour. tomorrow 85 the high. a breezy afternoon in store and it will be sunny, warm and dry. winds will be out of the southwest at 5-15 miles per hour. a little cooler 78 degrees our high. back to the low 80s on sunday. monday will be windy. we'll climb to 83 for a high. again, dry weather expected. a cold front is going to be pushing through monday night. that will cool us off for tuesday but you will notice the one thing that is missing in all of these forecasts is rain. we need it, we just don't have is a lot of it coming our way. even over the next several days we looking at pretty dry and

so we need to get a good system that brings good showers. >> we need that moisture. and you consider that fire out there in parker right now. it's just perfect evidence of why we need that moisture. >> for sure. >> all right we will check in with you later. let's check in on that fire sky 9 over that brush fire in parker and the pre dare are neighborhood. it's being called the crow foot valley fire. it's now been contained we are hearing from south metro fire. it burned 30 acres. no longer threatening homes so the fire lines. to the property lines. no longer threatening homes. homes were being threatened. douglas county notified 44 residents to evacuate. what started this all, we just don't know right now. they are just getting these hot spots taken care of and then i'm sure a heavy investigation will begin by south metro fire. >> we have been watching the view from sky 9. it's so interesting to see how they have gone in with the trucks and firefighters and then on

top of every ridge there. double checking every spot. they are aware how quickly these things can move. and they certainly found the fuel with the trees. but those homes that was close by and ranch property and fences and everything else. you though there was horses and other things and the golf course off to the side. scary stuff and 30 acres. now we get a number on that. 30-acres that burned. it started at 3:40. >> kudos to the south metro they responded. you could see as we watch this develop, they did their best to find those property lines where that fire was encroaching and the golf courses as well. and sent their crews right there to tamp down some of the approaching fire lines. and they did a great job. they are still take care of some of those hot spots there. quite a few crews on the road. a heavy presence there, but they got it all contained. good news out of parker.

9 news viewer -- after their game in lafayette last saturday marty is the grandmother of the kings quarterback logan. the first boy to give her a pink rose. i'm going to cry. other team members did the same in honor of her beating stage two breast cancer. she was diagnosed last year after several bouts of chemo she is cancer free. she plans to be on the sidelines for the team's last regular season game this saturday. >> how sweet it looks like they are all wearing pink socks. i love the roses thing. how cool is that? perfect and good for her. beating cancer. i love that. >> and at the game cheering them on. we have a cute kitty in the backyard. oh in the newsroom. sorry.

all right it's pet time. i want to introduce you to a little guy named heathcliff. he comes to us from the rocky mountain sea lion rescue. he is five months old. he is checking out lawrence gibbs right now. one of our directors. if he looks like he just wants to be super, super curious and get into everything, it's because he is five months old and they describe him as believe it or not one of the chill cats that they have at the rescue. he gets along great with other cats so we do good in a family with other cats. he just needs a lot of love and attention. his adoption fee will cover everything his shots, which he already has and he's been neutered so he would be great for a family that wants to play with him. lauren walked away. that is the problem.
