>> some find a happy place away from the campaign chaos. record warmth didn't keep winter out of downtown denver. why there was snow in the city. 9news starts right now. >> right now crews are battling very dry conditions in eagle county as they work to contain a small wildfire burning off prior pan road burning about 50 acres into thomasville. smoke could be seen for miles when the sun was up earlier. the sheriff weighings are possible if the -- evacuations are possible if the fire continues to spread. >> three structures destroyed early this morning and crews had to work fast to keep it from spreading. the three buildings lost were among trail gulch road. crews kept an eye on for hot spots. the cause of this fire is still under investigation. any small fire could quickly grow into a big problem. several small wildfires have burned throughout the state in

warning of near critical wildfire conditions. the most at-risk areas are in the southern colorado mountains and valleys. hazardous conditions also stretch into wyoming and montana. high winds and extra warm temperatures these days certainly aren't helping the cause. we want to bring in meteorologist danielle grant. we could use moisture at this point. >> by midweek we could find until then, it will be all about the wind. it will be extremely gusty. you can see red flag warnings in place most of eastern colorado. denver not included, but that will continue throughout the day tomorrow. you can see winds picking up overnight in the foothills gusting in the 50-mile-per-hour range by 9:00 tomorrow morning continuing and moving on to the i-25 corridor between about 20 and 30 miles per hour wind speeds for us. we are not done yet.

already in place anticipating wind gusts about 45 miles per hour for most of eastern colorado. a very windy next couple of days. we will have some sunshine throughout tomorrow, but those gusty wins taking down the fall foliage and showers would be nice to see. i think it will happen. we might have to wait a few more days. >> sounds good. talk to you in a bit. >> it might be too early to tell if the yellowish smoke coming from suncor energy yesterday was toxic. the state public enough about what was in the smoke. he also said it doesn't seem to pose any immediate threat to people in the area. suncor says a power failure friday shutdown its plant in commerce city and caused a gas release. the cloud released contained what being called catalyst dust made of sillica and heavy metals. inhaling a lot could effect some people. the energy company resumed operations today at its

new this evening denver police are calling a shooting at amotel a homicide. a woman cass killed overnight at the -- was killed overnight at the motel. this man is wanted kelley on first-degree murder charges. aurora police need your help finding a man who used creative moves to burglarize a restaurant. they say he broke in last month. they spotted them coming down through the ceiling help of another person. anyone who knows who this is should call metro denver crimestoppers. senator bernie sanders, donald trump, jr. and presidential candidate donald trump are coming to colorado in the next three days. ballots will be mailed out to colorado voters on monday. 9news reporter is looking ahead to their exchange and certainly not much time left to attract the undecided voter. >> not at all. each campaign hoping to secure

of a kind. >> yeah, my ghandi hat. nobody else has this hat. >> if i had another choice, it might be this. >> 9news mountain newsroom. >> tomorrow is the last day for yoga fest in eagle. you can try a little yoga at home. election happening on november 8. tomorrow thousands will be lacing up their running shoes for the rock 'n' roll and 10k. for the first time, it does not include a full marathon. last year there were problems getting permits in the city for the full marathon course, but this year they did add a brand new 5k race that happened this morning. 14,000 runners are expected to take part in these races. tomorrow races start and end at civic center park, but there will be plenty of road closures along the route outside of the park. you can find the closing maps

it can totally be here. today though, breaking records. we're breaking records left and right. we hit about 85 degrees out of dia. that old record was 83 set just two years ago in 2014. now this year 2016 going in on the books. it was a hot one across eastern colorado. 90 degrees. we were in the 06s and 70 -- 60s and 70s this afternoon in the mountains. it was a spectacular one. this awesome shot of steamboat springs. out there and gorgeous calls that are still popping across the heartland nothing going on. it has been so quiet. high pressure dominating our weather pattern. for our friends on the west coast, completely different story. washington and oregon still bracing as the storm system is pushing onshore and we are anticipating the worst of the winds late tonight as well. high wind warnings still in place north of the seattle area. easily 50-60-mile-per-hour wind gusts. you could see some rain.

tremendous. 22-28 feet high waves just unreal. wet weather pushing in and we could be watching for flash flooding going on across portions of western idaho. high pressure for us. this storm system is ushering in a beast out to the west. it pulls away and yet again we are watching another storm system pushing in tomorrow and for the start of next week. folks across the pacific northwest cannot catch a break this time of the year. you can see tonight here in town w 50 degrees, mostly clear skies. it's just so comfortable out there and have you check ited this guy out -- this guy out? it's the full hunter's moon. it is spacek tech letter -- spectacular out there. it should be a beautiful evening. tomorrow morning we wake up to sunshine here in the city. a few increasing clouds out to the west. overall we stay dry statewide

mountains, across the eastern plains. it should be nice and dry. unfortunately, that does come with a bit of a risk as we mentioned off the top of the show. high fire danger for portions of southeastern colorado. that red flag warning in place from 11:00-7:00 and wind gusts around the foothills. humidity values about 10-15%. it's just bone dry around here. we need rain and unfortunately all we're going to get are the gusty winds. you can see overnight is when they really pickup foothills. by tomorrow afternoon 5. 306789 or so, -- 5:30 or so, easily 40- 50-mile-per-hour wind gusts. even some gusty winds across the i-25 corridor too. we should see those between 20- 30 miles per hour. sunday night into monday, we are watching for even a more extreme winds out there. high wind watching in placeabove timberline. we should be looking at wind
