a cooldown. highs in the 70s because of a front that will arrive this afternoon. but, bottom line, the main weather headline are those wild winds. we have had peek wind gusts upwards of 50 miles per hour in cascade. wind advisories in the high country will make it difficult to drive at times while those strong winds here on the front range are going to increase fire danger, strong winds will increase this afternoon here on the front range and out in the eastern plains. this morning is alre foothills and down south in palmer divide while the winds in the city are much calmer. the forecast really dry. that's the reason why we'll have a red flag warning. we have a few clouds in southeastern colorado and the potential for light showers in our north and central mountains. here on the front range, it is bright blue skies and sunshine. highs will be in the low 70s. temperatures right now in the 40s and the 30s, some 50-degree

i-25. a bigger cooldown arrives for the beginning of the week. that forecast coming up. a look at the roads with amelia. >> good morning, happy to show you around town. we're looking at a nice start across 6th avenue, connecting golden to denver shouldn't be problematic. our travel times are at 8 minutes. speeds in the mid to lower 60s. we wrapped up a quick crash southbound 25, no major delays as you get into the corridor coming down from the mouse trap. out across colfax, looks to be minor and the backups are very, very light. live views outside have been looking great. highway 85 is a good example here across highway 7. also looking clear. and those drive times across commerce city around 6 minutes, we are right on track. >> okay, thanks. right on track. happening right now, the iraq military is fighting in the city of mozul undergoing

basically, militants with isis took over that city quite some time ago and now those militants are fighting with the iraqi military and like we said, what could be the biggest battle that they've seen to date. u.s. led coalition air strikes are along the front lines and they are supporting those iraqi forces. this battle is happening right now. we will keep you posted if iraqi forces with the help of the u.s. are, in fact, able to retake the city. yeah, that's going to be it is 5:33 right now. so hot, dry temperatures along with this wind is increasing the fire risk today. one fire is already burning in eagle county. the freeman fire, it's called. 15% contained. but so far, it has burned 300 acres since saturday. no buildings are being threatened and luckily, nobody has been injured. well, investigators do know what caused the two most recent fires in douglas county now.

started with burning garden debris. the day before, a crew that was working on a gate accidentally started a 30-acre fire. that was near parka near the subdivision. nobody was sited in either incident. the firefighters say that it does serve as a reminder that you got to be smart when it's this dry out. >> burning this time of the year is a horrible idea. any time we're using a heat source and we have fuels available, we have to remember that a bit of wind and what we think is a small fire can quickly get out of control. >> yeah, you know, it's a tough deal right now because it just takes a little bit of a spark because it's so dry out there and then the wind picks it up, belen joins us now. that will continue today. >> exactly. there's isn't potential for any storms, so lightning won't be an issue. it lies on us, and us being as careful as possible.

wind gusts in the past 24 hours, gary, because we've had reports in cascade, up to 81 miles per hour. that's the strongest i've seen so far. gusts right here, up to 59 miles per hour. and 45-mile per hour winds in avon. so let's take a look at the rest of your forecast. we have a red flag warning that will go into effect at 11:00 and there's through 9:00 p.m. through most of eastern colorado because those strong winds be miles per hour. now the temperatures for today aren't going to be as warm as yesterday. with e have a front pushing in this afternoon. that will help to kick up the winds more. highs in the mid 70s from boulder into denver and down south into littleton. but yeah, it has been unseasonally warm. it's going to feel more like fall very soon. i'll give you more information on that cooldown coming up. >> okay, belen, thank you. you know, it's no secret this

between hillary clinton and donald trump. it's the separate controversies each is dealing with. trump is dealing with fallout from sexual abuse allegations. he's saying the election is rigged with help from the media, promoting false stories about him. hillary clinton is dealing with a new round of transcripts released on wikileaks. three that clinton is said to have delivered to goldman sachs. amid all of this, each nominee has someone campaigning for them in for us. jessica, some big names in our state. >> that's right, bernie sanders and donald trump, jr., are in colorado hoping to rally more votes for their candidates. to be clear, while sanders supports clinton, he will specifically focus on amendment 69. donald trump, jr., will campaign for his father at centennial gun club this afternoon. nationally, clinton holds an 11 point lead, according to the latest poll. the majority of trump

allegations will not affect their vote. meanwhile, clinton's campaign hasn't said much yet about another batch of e-mails released sunday. the 9th batch, showing the inner workings of her campaign. the documents reveal how she should handle things like the e- mail controversy and health records. trump expressed concerns like you said, that the election is rigged. he believes it's a conspiracy involving democrats and members of the media. both vice presidential candidates are standing by their running mates new attacks surface. >> i think this country is in a lot of trouble. and i think donald trump has articulated a vision to make america great again, despite the obvious bias in the national media. >> he thinks he's going to lose, he's going around and saying the whole thing is rigged. it's rigged against me. poor me. the guy is just a bully. >> the third and final presidential debate takes place on wednesday, one day after

this election could be rigged and that has raised a lot of concerns for both democratic and republican leaders and we're going to take a closer look at the voting process and what both sides are saying about his claims coming up. >> very important, jessica, thank you so much. countdown time, 22 days until the election and thousands of mail in ballots are being sent to register colorado voters today. so here's what you need to know. you have to return that ballot by 7:00 p.m. on november 8. either turn it in, in person or mail it in. but, it has to be received by that deadline. postmarks do not count. also, if you mail it, you'll have to pay 68 cents in postage. every registered voter will get a mail in ballot. this is the first presidential ballot where everyone's ballot is being sent directly to them. >> that is one thing that changed. there was a change in law in 2013, what they did was alleviate a lot of the

sign up and request one, certain elections they were mailed to you automatically. but not in others. now if you are an active registered voter, you vote, keep your address up to date, you get one sent to you automatically for all elections. >> if you are not registered, you have until the end of the month to sign up and have your ballot sent to you. if you really are last minute person, you can still register on election day, november 8. anyone who lived in colorado for at least 22 days can register to vote. ballot is long. you will get two cards that equal one ballot. make sure to turn in both cards. now the next presidential debate is this wednesday. and 9news will host two more local debates. we'll take a closer look at ballot questions tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. on channel 20. then on thursday, october 20, we will host a debate between the 6th congressional district candidates. republican incumbent, mike kauffman, will debate morgan carol. new this morning, two

shooting. denver police told us that the double shooting happened on north udora street near 30th street and mlk, jr., boulevard. officers say the victim's injuries are not life threatening and they don't have any suspect information to release at this time. this weekend, temperatures got hot, but it made for a beautiful day for the denver rock and roll marathon. >> it's running weather, right? maybe a little hot. >> blow you down the street if you run in >> thousands of runners took advantage of that great weather. so, the 13.1 mile race started at civic center park. it took runners through several neighborhoods before returning to the park. this was the first year that the event took place without a full marathon distance. the top two women finishers were actually twin sisters. >> that's cool. >> elvine edged out her sister by three seconds. i wish we had video of them

if you know marty, he is filled with fun facts. i have a fun fact for you. daylight saving time is going to come to an end very soon. today the sunrise will be at 7:13. sunset will be at 6:17. so, we have about 11 hours of daylight, but daylight saving time will be ending on november 6. we set our clocks back an hour. we fall back as the saying goes. now today the temperatures are going to be cooler than yesterday. not as warm, but 78 our normal high should be around 65. those winds will be increasing this afternoon, gusting to 20 to 25 miles per hour. gusts rather to 40 miles per hour. so, yeah, it's going to be difficult to drive at times in the mountains and here in the front range, increase fire danger. 30s and 40s on the map right now, 60s to the south. 40s closer to leadville and eagle. temperatures at 63 degrees. this afternoon will look like this. we'll have 90s to the south and

we will have a front pushing through this afternoon and that will further knock down our temperatures for tomorrow. but doppler 9 quiet across the state. we'll have a small chance for light showers in our north and central mountains while the weather here in the city stays dry. this afternoon, it's going to be a gusty one tonight, tomorrow morning, we're waking up to a few clouds in the sky. temperatures tonight will drop to 39 degrees. we'll see a gradual improvement in the wind. remember during the day, we're seeing gusts hour. this evening, winds to 10 to 20 miles per hour are looking much better. how about it feeling like fall? come on, mother nature. 60s and 50s for tuesday, wednesday, and thursday, then by the weekend, temperatures will jump into the 70s again. iowa meal yay, how amelia, how are the roads looking? >> we are just about to hit that 6:00 mark. in the meantime, c-dot cams, nothing to complain about here.
