plan on fixings what's wrong and getting schedules back on track. and take a moment and look to the sky. something happens that only denver and one other major city will see. a colorado highway meets cabin cruiser. how this happened. and why the buffs might not have to face stanford's heisman hopeful from colorado this weekend. 9 news starts now. >. we begin with a quick update on the fire in southern colorado, the junkins fire has destroyed five homes and 15 other structures. it's spread over 15,000 acres with no containment. we also learned how it started. apparently high winds blew a metal outbuilding into fire lines. one pilot dropping water on the fire says it's one of the worst

fire fighting. >. as many as 2,000 children are exploited for sex every year, just in colorado and wyoming along. the fbi worked with hundreds of law enforcement agencies in stings across the country to rescue children and arrest sex traffickers. >> it's a trap, once you're there it's hard to get out of. >> reporter: in the shadows that can obscure an innocent face. >> it's really hard. >> reporter: like the one in this fbi video. >> everything i did as far as who take advantage of children. >> they use us young people because they can't get the older women to do what they want to do. >> reporter: even with sex stings year after year in colorado. >> sometimes it's hard for people to believe that this kind of activity takes place in our community. >> reporter: children are still being sold for sex. >> to rescue these children is the best investment of our criminal justice dollars.

and the fbi to announce the results of operation cross country. a three-day nationwide sting to crack down on child prostitution. >> the youngest child we recovered was 14 years old. >> reporter: in colorado and wyoming nine children were rescued. 11 traffickers, 32 customers, and47 adult prostitutes were arrested. the operation in these two states rank second nationally for the number >> i think if we spent a month doing this the numbers would be staggering, but we still would not have eliminated it. >> reporter: the task force targeted hotels, truck stops, street corners, and social media apps. >> applications that pose as social media but instead are really just hook up sites. >> reporter: the rescue victims. >> i have learned i was a victim. >> reporter: and catch the criminals lurking in the shadows. >> i can breathe and say i can finally put him behind me.

were arrested in denver as part of this sting. they were driving underage girls across the midwest, and selling them for sex. they posted ads on a sex site, and that's when they were busted by undercover officers. and what struck me from the morning press corves was how hard it is for -- conference was how hard it is for some of the victims to get out once they're in the sex trade. the average life expectancy once they're in is about seven year thank you. every year when ballots get mailed out to colorado voters we hear from folks saying they got two ballots, concerned about voter fraud. that doesn't mean you won the electoral lottery, you only get to vote once. a woman in pueblo county received two, and we expect to hear more reports. if you attempt to submit two, one would be counted and the district attorney is notified about the sabled.

approaching cool front brings a mostly cloudy sky overnight. i'm kathy sabine outside in the backyard, and we're awaiting the cool front that will bring additional snow to the northern mountains, and they're making know up at the loveland ski area. dustin sharing these pictures with us. the dog days of winter almost upon us, and toby giving his stamp of approval. but when will denver see the first official snow the first average day is tomorrow, but it's not cold enough to bring know in the next five to nine days. little look at the moon, but it's cloudy as well. did see 70s on the map in southeast colorado today. tomorrow morning it's going to be chilly stepping out. temperatures near 40 between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. it will be a dry day for lower elevations with the best chance of showers in the overnight period. here in the 9 news backyard outside the studios our

degrees, and we're tracking rain and showers bringing rain to southeast wyoming. it's having a hard time coming autopsy the foothills though, so only isolated precipitation between fort collins and denver, but the best chance of accumulating know over the northern mountains where is snow level remains 7500 feet. it though, the wind on the back side out of the north/northwest will keep temperatures below the average of 65, we'll hover in the mid-50s with the coldest air to the north of us, and the warmest temperatures off to the south and east. we're tracking some scattered snow showers in the northern mountains this hour with a bit of light rain north of denver. not hitting the ground right now in the weld county and larimer county area, but 20 percent chance of a few light

snow possible. winds shift from the south to the north/northwest, and then the skies clear in the afternoon. along the front range tonight, the snow level remaining high, between vail and granby up to estes park and just to the west of fort collins where it's basically rain. a few light showers moving through between 11:00 p.m. and 3:00 in the morning, and then skies clear, and it's dry to step out in the morning, but the wind means a brisk start to the day with temperatures along the front range as well. mid-40s over southeast colorado. tomorrow the warmest air found in the southern half of the state as it takes awhile for the rain to move into the southeast corner. up in the high country temperatures remain quite chilly, and speaking of chilly, 42 in nederland, 44 will be the high in grand lake. in the denver metro, increasing cloud and wind tonight. slight chance of a shower tonight. skies clear early in the morning, but the brisk north
