we are starting with some breaking news. fire officials in oregon say multiple firefighters were injured in a blast in a northwest portland neighborhood. this happened as utility workers were repairing a damaged gas line. heavy black smoke all over the area this morning. you can see this is a live look of what it looks like out there right now. this is a multi-story building and er we will continue to follow this and as we get updates, we will update you during the show. back at home we have new video coming into the newsroom of the school bus crash at dia last month. up until this point, we haven't seen any moments of the crash or the moments leading up to it but we really want to warn you it may be difficult to watch. we have decided to show it to you as we work to learn more about what led up to the fatal

that day and it's very slow. you're going to see the school bus, around the corner. 15 students were taken to metro area hospitals after the crash. three legacy coaches significant injuries and the driver was killed in the crash. we know the junior team and varsity team for coming home from a football game in california when this crash happened. denver police tell us they are still looking into what may have caused this crash to happen. reports show there were no drugs or alcohol found in happened and it was ruled an accident. also today, the junkins fire burning near westcliff has burned more than 16,000 acres and there is still no containment. the fire is still growing. five homes have been destroyed and almost 300 homes are threatened at this time. about 400 people have been evacuated since the fire started on monday. right now, there is zero containment. firefighters say the flames

power lines. ski season in the high country just two days away. arapahoe basin will open on friday bright and early. 9 am skiers and snowboarders will be able to access the high noon via the black mountain express lift and people are probably already lined up out there. tickets are already on sale. if you are looking to get pumped up, a trip to frisco is just what you need. the snow up there looking real good today. a good thank you video for us earlier this morning. it is looking like christmas up there but maybe not for long. i am loving the snow and all the beautiful fall colors here in denver. >> isn't it amazing? it's just a beautiful view right now. here in the backyard, we have the trees that are just now turning. the maple trees are really starting to go and the clear blue sky is really a gorgeous day. that is after some early morning rain that we had that didn't amount to much around the area.

over the front range. we are seeing a few clouds over mountain areas. we did have some new natural snow at the loveland ski area and a couple of inches trying to cover up the lower runs. and on the backside of arapahoe basin, over on the montezuma basin side, really good-looking view over into i believe that would be the 10 mile range looking at some thunderstorms in northeastern, just northeast of colorado right now in western nebraska. it ok thunderstorms that have started to kick off. for us, i see us as being dry locally. however, there will be a few light showers moving into the areas of the front rage and northeast. we will see where those are going to track. thank you so much, marty. we are following turmoil at a charter school in evergreen this morning. it prompted parents to get out and protest this morning. they're not happy about what

into this. any new information from last half hour? >> we have reached out to every teacher that was let go and we have reached out to all the school board members that left last week. we will get to that in a second. parrots stood outside -- parents stood outside the rocky mountain charter high school days after they hired those six educators. >> bring our teachers back. ring our teachers back. >> this comes after all but one of the charter school board members quit. seven board members resigned out once. we are reaching out to those board members but we have not heard back from them yet. today, the focus is on the middle school teachers who parents say were escorted out by sheriff's deputies yesterday. parents we spoke to say the school's director didn't appreciate the opinions of some of the teachers. >> who knows what the education is going to be today and that lack of planning is a real example of the pattern and the thing that goes on in the school where seemingly rash around last-minute decisions

impact the students often take place. it's not the first time, it's actually the second time that teachers have been reprimanded for their open opinion. even in the instance when a board has requested their opinion to be shared. in that instance, teachers were reprimanded. >> you have to imagine this is a big distraction at the school today. the school director has been in hot water before. the jeffco school district provides public funding to the charter school. during last year's recall election, harold urged them to vote in the election because it could affect funding. the district attorney -- district's attorney sent out a letter warning that that was a violation of district policy. we have reached out to her and doctor harold several times. we are still waiting to hear anything from that charter school and its director. >> what they have to say, their

we want that perspective. hopefully, we get in touch with them and they contact you with that. thank you for looking into that for us. all open lanes olde wadsworth boulevard have reopened. many of you were impacted by this. it happened after a cyclist was hit by a car near wadsworth and west 52nd. this was a fatal accident. we do not know the name of the person who died in the accident but we know it was a 43-year- old man and he sadly died at the hospital. un are looking for two suspects in an attempted armed robbery near the tu campus last night -- du campus last night. a man approached a group of women, attempting to rob them. at some point, one of the suspects fired what looks like a gun toward the ground near the women's feet. denver police are describing the suspects as two black males about 5'8" in height.

they were unsuccessful but if you have any information call denver police right away. we are just hours away from the last presidential debate. there is plenty of anticipation for how donald trump and hillary clinton will perform. andrew sorensen is in the information center with a preview of tonight. it's fight night in vegas. donald trump and hillary clinton are set to duke it out in one of the last -- in the last debate tonight. polls show clinton with a comfortable lead so many are wondering if trump will up the ante. the candidates are already in off on the tarmac yesterday. donald trump prepped on the plane focusing on foreign- policy, specifically clinton's record in syria and the benghazi attack in 2012. he is trying to rattle her by inviting the mother of one of the americans killed. >> i blame hillary clinton personally for the death of my son. personally. >> trump continues to insist the system is rigged although there is no evidence whatsoever of voter fraud.

it is a beautiful day out here, a bit on the cool side but standing in direct sunlight is pretty comfortable. over the weekend we were having the hunter's moon, the full moon in october. boy was it gorgeous in northern colorado. looking from fort collins to

us a great shot of that. and is calling mentioned, the temperature -- the colleen -- and as colleen mentioned, the fall colors are really here in denver. here in the backyard, sunny conditions and we're sitting at 53 degrees. we are not going too warm of all that much more over that during the day today. we had showers move through earlier in the day. th nebraska. a second batch of moisture is now right around casper, wyoming. that is going to slip down over the northeast corner of the state. what we anticipate to happen light showers, generally north and east of the brighton area during the late afternoon and into the evening. even if you manage to get one of these showers going for you, there is not going to be a lot of rain. i think we are looking at generally trace amounts or less.

elevations. 50s in the foothills. during the afternoon, when the cool air starts to build in, we will get a few wind gusts up at about 14 to 15 miles per hour. stronger gust, 20 to 30 miles per hour on the north eastern plains. statewide, we have seen those showers up near the lake. we will get another round late in the afternoon with the weakest of those making it into northeastern colorado and slightly stronger showers right around ogallala and jules berg for the afternn especially after sunset. 50s, 60s here. warmer down south, warmer out west. 40s and 50s in mountain areas and tonight, clear sky, light wind, very chilly. a freeze watch to the front range and in southeastern colorado goes through the night into tomorrow morning. we see upper 20s and low 30s he consistently after a partly cloudy day. we drop down to near 30 degrees, even a little less

we have some new information just coming into our newsroom. a 15-year-old student at a colorado springs high school

school. authorities first learned about what happened through a school resource officer. that resource officer assigned to mitchell high school. police say they found the weapon pretty quickly and the student was booked into the spring creek youth detention center. they say there was no kubel threat to students or faculty at that mitchell high school we just told you about. back here in denver, you are not dreaming. you are not seeing things. denver area albertson's don't be surprised if you go to the store and it looks a little bit different. this is of course part of the merger between the two grocery store mergers that happened last year. in health news, new research suggests some medications may impact male fertility, specifically blood pressure medications. a stanford study found in fertility risks went up 10% among men taking ace inhibitors and beta blockers. the drugs work affecting
