our elections, that undermines democracy. >> trump's claim on not conceding to clinton if he loses has been rejected by some fellow republicans. john mccain said he didn't like the outcome of the 2008 race but conceded defeat without reluctant. no ballot selfies. state law prohibits voters from showing their completed ballots to others. that includes posting a picture of a media. colorado is one of many states that bans ballot self-yes. it's a -- selfies. it's a misdemeanor meant to guard against voter fraud. there are exceptions such as senior and people who need help and nonenglish speaking voters. tonight the debate between republican congressman mike coffman and democratic challenger morgan carroll, the

suburbs around denver to the north, east and south. that debate starts at 7:00 airing on channel 20 and we'll stream it on 9news.com and the 9news mobile app. iraqi and kurdish troops say they've advanced more quickly than expected to take the isis stronghold of mosul. however, not all the news is encouraging, particularly for u.s. forces working with the iraqi military. >> reporter: the pentagon announced today that an american soldier was it appears to be the first american casualty in this offensive to drive isis out of mosul. mostly americans are on their bases, but some are forward deployed advising iraqi and kurdish troops which puts them in harm's way. we went to the front line today and we saw iraqi forces have reached right to the outskirts of the city of mosul. we also found that isis has dug in. we saw some of their tunnels. we saw some of their bunkers where they were preparing

there's a very big fight in store when troops arrive inside the city of mosul. we'll have a full report tonight on nbc's nightly news with lester holt. back at home boulder county investigators believe a truck driver checking the back tires of his big rig got caught in the tires when the truck began to roll forward just before 6:30 this morning along highway 128 and el dorado boulevard in superior. the truck rolled to a feet. it took firefighters roughly an hour to free him. the 35-year-old man from thornton died at a denver area hospital about a half hour later. witnesses who saw this are asked to contact the boulder county sheriff's office. americans spend an average of more than 50 hours a year sitting in traffic. for commuters who use i-25 in the denver area that estimate may feel a little low. the interstate is seeing more jams this year than ever before. 9news reporter dan grossman found out why.

a 7-eleven in lakewood sold a lotto ticket worth nearly $10 million. the colorado lottery said someone purchased the ticket last night at the 7-eleven at 9200 west alameda avenue. it matched all six numbers, 3, 4, 5, 9, 14, 36. the unusually large lotto grand prize is the re consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner. that winner has 180 days to claim the prize. lotto is one of colorado's in state jackpot games with a starting jackpot of 1 million bucks. drawings are every wednesday and saturday at 7:35 p.m. a warning for homeowners, there are hundreds, potentially thousands of homes in this country that are crumbling at the foundation. homeowners are watching their concrete basement walls crack and buckle because of a mineral in the concrete and it's

online. the self-driving hardware includes eight cameras, a dozen sensors and improved radar. a photo op at the denver zoo today didn't go quite as planned. billy, the youngest elephant, got two 600-pound pumpkins and zookeepers thought he'd do his smashing pumpkins impression. he instead did his run away impression. he sniffed one, looked it over and didn't want anything to do with them. so body, e elephant, got his chance, a 12- year-old male. >> he was a little scared or maybe just didn't want to do it today. so we brought out a different elephant and he is really enjoying it. he smashed them both and is eating it and loving it. >> okay, there. ere we go. today's pumpkin smashing was the zoo's way of promoting its boo at the zoo event this weekend.

morning. you stick your nose out the door and it's chilly and the weekend comes up and it's going to be like summer again. >> my first indication it was chilly outside, i saw frost on the ground and a layer of ice on the horse's water trough this morning. first time for the season and the barn cat didn't want anything to do with me this morning. usually she runs outside and kind of spends time with me in the barn but not today. mid-20s in denver this morning. it won't be as cold tonight and over the city right now, clear skies, light winds and way up high a pristine view of our southern mountains. this will be a great weekend to head into denver or head into the high country. with the clear skies tonight there's a meteor shower. it will peak tonight 10 to 15 meteors per hour, midnight to sunrise your best viewing opportunity. check that out if you get a chance. we'll have much more on 9news.com. 62 degrees in denver today, 59 in springfield, 50 in leadville, 62 in grand junction.

from colorado's sports leader here's rod mackey. >> let me clarify the name. they're the houston texans, not brock and the texans. it seems all anyone wants to talk about is the broncos qb turned texans qb. most were disappointed when osweiler left but not trevor siemian. after all, siemian would likely still be sitting on the bench had osweiler chosen to resign here. >> you know, i learned a ton learned a ton from brock as well and the situation that he was in. so brock is a good friend and i wish him really well. >> we talk time to time whether it's texts or whatever. obviously i think a lot of him, had a lot of nice battles with him on the football field last year. we won some big games. you never forget that. that's part of football. so yes, we got a lot of respect for each other i think. >> brock called kub after the ambulance incident to make sure

key player from the broncos opponent and in week the player was brock osweiler. mike klis was part of that conversation. he joins us live now from broncos headquarters. we get to finally catch up with the old qb, didn't we, mike? >> reporter: we did. i was impressed by how he handled all the questions that came his way. most of the questions went back to his decision to leave previous four years, had been developed by the coaching staff here. he was ready to become the heir apparent to peyton manning, take over the defending super bowl champs. instead he leave for houston where he thought he had a better chance to succeed and brock didn't dodge any questions. i thought he might say i've moved on, guys. that was then. i'm now a houston texan. he didn't do that. he explained all his decisions. two things of note. he did indicate that the

extending an offer. that was one and two, he also reconfirmed that he preferred the bill o'brien often which comes from the patriots which the broncos used in the adam gase peyton manning heyday versus the gary kubiak offense which is a little more run oriented. >> looking forward what do you expect to see from no. 17 on monday night, mike? >> reporter: i expect him to try to get rid of the ball quick just did last thursday, just like matt ryan did. that seem to be the blueprint. he'll try to hit his tight ends. i'm not sure he'll go as much to his receiver deandre hopkins like he likes to. they'll try to neutralize the pass rush, but i think the broncos have this game. it's hard for me to believe they're losing to brock and the texans on monday night. >> mike, it's the houston texans. it's not brock and the texans. i just clarified that.
