fighting back against iraqi and kurdish attempts to retake mosul. they attacked targets in and around the city kirkus early this morning -- sending suicide bombers into a power plant around 30 miles from the city. iraqi and kurdish forces captured it thursday. this was their biggest push towards the isis held city mosul. they're now just ten miles away. it's happening faster than u-s commanders anticipated. soldiers celebrated after capturing what appears to have been an isis headquarters. good morning

forced to leave their homes as the junkins fire spread -- are waking up in their own beds this morning. they were able to go back home late thursday afternoon. crews are making progress calming the flames on the northeast side of the fire. they say it's now about 33-percent contained thanks to lower temperatures and higher humidity. the fire started monday -- burning nearly 17-thousand acres in custer and pueblo counties. we'll head over to belen now in the weather center. belen fire danger is

high school will be in court today. they are charged as adults even though they were 16 at the time. their lawyers want that changed sienna johnson takes her turn to face the judge today... her friend, brooke higgins was in court earlier this week. prosecutors say the two tried to get weapons to carry out their attack at the highlands ranch school last december. they say it was such a serious plot they should face adult consequences. johnson's lawyer says the cas should go to juvinile court.. also in court today -- this former denver police officer hubert 'marty' vanover. he's charged with trying to sell marijuana. denver police were investigating him after a neighbor called to say a stange smell was coming from the vanover's house. they found 2 pounds of pot and some meth inside. the former officer is actually out on bond right now -- and it's not his first time in the courtroom today. vanover was fired from d-p-d two years ago -- for lying during an

charged for assaulting his girlfriend back in 20-13. there will be another blood drive today for a detective who was shot while working. the colorado springs police department will be holding it for douglas county detective dan brite today. the drive will be from eight this morning until one p-m -- at the police operations center in colorado springs. detective brite was shot in early september while responding to a call about a rifle. the suspect -- randall rodick -- was killed in a shootout with five other officers. there have been several blood drives for brite -- who was critically injured. he and his wife have thanked the community for their support. some significant changes in security at the cold crush bar in denver - to keep its customers safe it's re-opened since the city closed it down following a shooting.

to come up with a security plan. the city reissued the bar's liquor license thursday. but only on the condition that the bar would improve security guards will now pat down customers at the door and use metal detector wands. and during certain times of the year from nine p-m until two a-m -- the bar will need four to six security guards. the bar also has to add outdoor lighting, and set up a dress code. no gang attire allowed. the candidates running for the most competitive seat in local races took to the 9news stage last night. republican congressman mike coffman and his democratic challenger-- state senator morgan carroll both participated in a debate for the sixth congressional district seat. the two candidates dop share some common ground when it comes to immigration. carroll told us she doesn't believe many people who come into the country illegally did something wrong. we asked if that position confirms

9news dot-com. in the race for the white house -- both candidates are heading to battleground states today. trump in north carolina -- clinton in ohio. the two candidates were both at a charity event in new york city last night -- separated by just one seat. talk about awkward. the two did shake hands at this event though -- which they didn't do at the debate. new this morning --- clinton now has a huge supporter -- oprah winfrey. oprah has endorsed the democratic nominee on t-d jakes show -- which will air next week. we have an exclusive clip from that interview... where oprah took the time to encourage people to vote. donald trump is clarifying his comments on whether or not...

results of the election on november 8th. at a rally in ohio... trump said...took those comments a step further -- trump has three events in north carolina today. students at the university of northern colorado will soon have a new campus commons building. crews are going to start builing the 74-billion dollar building on the greeley campus tomorrow. the building will be a student support and welcome center. u-n-c is fundraising for the new building -- as they're going to take on more than 25-million dollars in debt for the construction.

just hours away from powering up the first chair. it's the first mountain to open up both here in colorado -- and nationwide. now a basin usually competes with loveland to see who is the first to open. loveland officials say they're close to their first day as well -- hoping sometime next week. as for some other mountains -- copper is looking to open november eleventh, vail on november 18th.

at breckenridge may need to bring a little more cash than they thought. there will be no more free parking on the streets there. starting december first -- anyone parking along several side streets will have to pay to park from ten a-m until eight p-m. the first hour will be 50-cents, the second one-dollar, and the third hour will be 1-50. after that -- officials say the they tell us their reason for doing this is because it's been hard to find parking in the area, all year round. and don't forget to enter our snow on nine challenge. tweet at us using the hashtag snow on nine and let us know when you think the first snow in denver will be. someone in the denver area is ten-million dollars

says another person has died because of a takata airbag exploding. the n-h-t-s-a says a 50-year-old woman was driving in california back in september when it happened. she was driving one ofec cars -- a 2001 civic. this is the eleventh known death connected to the faulty airbags. more than 100- million have been recalled. new this morning-- child development experts are issuing new recommendations for kids' media usage. the american academy of pediatrics is encouraging parents to join the fun and use media with their kids. previously -- the

suggested no media before age 2. now. they say there's evidence toddlers as young as 18 months could learn and benefit from some forms of technology.... as long as parents are there to guide them... and the technology is not overly stimulating. new solar panels in fort collins will help 20 low-income families save money soon. installation of the solar array is happening today --an going to the site. the solar panels will meet about 50- percent of the energy needs for each family over 20 years. it will also help prevent over two- thousand tons of greenhouse gas emissions. three friends who call themselves the "colorado beer barons" have competed their goal -- they visited every brewery in our state. that's 298 breweries. dan hess, george rapko, and gary brown began their
