it was 18 million what houston gave them. the broncos gave him 15.5. >> reporter: again how many yachts can you water ski behind? >> reporter: it is. you're talking about two years of that fully guaranteed. i think that was part of the reason. maybe the texas favorable tax laws is another reason, but he also talked about how the broncos waited on the offer. i think perspective they knew he was going to free agency with houston out there and they didn't want to bid against themselves. that's why they didn't jump out there. that's one. the other thing that was a factor was the offense. he got just enough of this gary kubiak offense last year apparently not to like it and he liked the -- what he had with adam gase and peyton manning. at least he had it in practice and that's what he got with bill o'brien in houston. it's an offshoot from the new england offense and that's what he wanted to quarterback.

the team is only focused on more wins for their record and a move up in the rankings. >> now the move is if we can keep winning and climbing higher and higher, so that's why it's kind of an interesting flirtation all year long because we've been right there on the brink. nobody seems to want to move us up higher until we get more wins. >> dave would know. he's been there through the thick and thin, the good days and bad. this is the 2nd time th made the top 25 in the national polls after beating oregon state. buffs are ranked 21 in the a.p. poll, 23 in the coaches poll and dropped out after losing to ufc. the name against is against ucla thursday night. all eyes on mile high stadium, we'll get back to them if we get things plugged back

we're so excite to be out here at mile high and i'm so excited to bring you the rest of your forecast today into tomorrow. we've got a great nature for broncos fans. -- great night for broncos fans. we've got a couple very warm days in store for us well above average. that got me thinking how close to record setting will we be? the pink line is the record the next several days. the yellow line is the forecast. where those two lines get close together this week is thursday and sunday. those two days we'll be record watch. today we were within just a couple of degrees of that. temperatures were in the upper 70s for many of us here across the front range, all across the state, not a lot of rain, but that's about to change as we get into tonight. showers from the west are going to be moving into western colorado. this disturbance will be bringing showers, rain and snow to that part of our state. doesn't quite make its way here to denver. we might see a sprinkle or two,
4:41 pm
a second. across the country that's the most activity that we are seeing stretching from the western slope out to utah. we're seeing those scattered showers and then you get off into the tropics and believe it or not, we've got a new hurricane to talk about. this is going to be in the pacific. very much so south of cabo san lucas. if you are traveling that direction, more than likely you will start seeing stronger waves. higher waves will move into the it is expected to gain strength as it pushes to the west. it is a category 1 storm. it will possibly become a major hurricane by tuesday afternoon but quickly lose strength as it makes a right turn and pushes back east towards the coastline. this may be something we need to watch out for as well to see if it potentially brings us any moisture.
4:42 pm
a huge ridge of high pressure is in place all across colorado and the inner mountain west. this is going to be keeping us warm, stable and dry for several days, even with this little disturbance that pushes through this afternoon and into this evening. speaking of, it is expected to bring some rain showers to our northern, central and southern mountains overnight tonight and into tomorrow morning. that snow line will drop to about 10,000 feet and then it's going to be rain from there down. those showers will make their way to our foothills an here in denver by early tuesday morning, but that's it. we'll get a few clouds, mostly cloudy skies early tuesday and then tuesday afternoon we'll clear out and be warming up. tuesday night also looks to be very dry and clear around here. we actually have a pretty good looking forecast, very dry but a very mild one. 48 degrees our overnight low tonight here in denver. greeley will drop to 42, 45 for fort collins, eastern plains in the middle 40s and lows in the
4:43 pm
mountains. tomorrow afternoon highs mountain areas into the 50s and 60s. here in town 74. so not as warm as today because of the clouds in the morning. 72 our high for greeley, 71 for fort collins with upper 70s and low 80s out across the eastern plains. again 48 our low tonight. we'll get cloudy, wind west 5 to 15 miles per hour. you might wake up to a sprinkle or two early tomorrow morning, but then clouds will clear by tomorrow afternoon and daytime highs reach 74 degrees. it's really our only chance for rain for the next several days. wednesday looks dry with a high of 73, thursday 78, friday 71, saturday 76. i want to skip all the way ahead to halloween because i know a lot of folks are very interested in that forecast. trick-or-treaters will be in very mild weather and it is going to be dry. we're looking at a high of 75 halloween day, overnight lows that night dropping to the 40s.
4:44 pm
we've got enough humidity and not a lot of wind, so we don't have a lot of extreme fire danger. we really just need some rain around here. >> it's so true with it all these fires we've had recently. hopefully we see some of that soon. i think not only are the broncos fans in store for a treat because of the weather, but because there are three new members of the broncos ring of fame. this is something pat started in 1984. he was just inducted last year. in '84 it started with floyd little, lionel taylor and goose gosselin. how about those names for some of you long time broncos fan. there were three more pillars over the weekend unveiled, simon fletcher, jason elam and john lynch, honored with the 8-

she may have heard them before, but to hear somebody say it in this forum, she was filled with joy and i spoke with her earlier today and i said there will be no crying because if you do, i will join suit and it's just not football. there's no crying in this game. >> reporter: boy, those players are now enjoying some really good company back there on the ring of fame plaza out in front of the stadium. also tonight we should note the denver police officer time last december is going to be honored here after the 1st quarter. sergeant tony lopez, jr. will be named a broncos country hero and he deserves it. we know his story so well after covering it. he is doing much better now. he went through so many surgeries to get back on his feet. he just had a baby recently, which is so awesome and he's back at work. it's nice to see he'll be honored today, too kim. >> nice all the way around. it's great to hear from those guys.

[ blender mixing ] >> that is our red food coloring. you'll have to get a lot of red
4:52 pm
