especially in and around the grand mesa. good rain going there. it looks like montrose will get a good shower. we could use it. below average rain and melted snow throughout the west and the front range. unfortunately here for the front range, the showers we get will be fairly light. concentrated late morning to about 2:00 this afternoon. and then clearing after 3:00 p.m. as far as total rain goes, if you're lucky, you might area. temperatures in the low 70s. we will have to wait until after 2:30, 3:00, when the sun comes back out before we hit these highs. >> thank you, marty. 6:01. sky 9 is up and over thornton parkway. there is a crash blocking the right shoulder. two cars with blinkers on. flashing lights are about to arrive. police and tow truck on its way. the backups are already starting to form leading up to

well. a couple of cars off to the far left shoulder of your drive of 76 approaching 25. just keep it in mind. backups forming. still moving through in the mid- 40s to mid-50s this morning. quiet with the exception of the southbound 25 thornton parkway accident. as marty has been showing us, wet conditions out to the west. gary. >> osweiler committed to play college basketball. >> yeah. the broncos, well, the fans filled mile high stadium last night. or the stadium to be named later as it may be. they got what they wanted. they got a win. the game was personal for the fans because of the return of brock osweiler. he did not play very well.

last december. a courageous fight out of the hospital and back to his family. >> one of the best moments last night. officers say a robbery turned violent when two teens fired gunshots at a popular chef. now those teens are charged with his murder. police say two 16-year-olds shot him several times near cornell avenue in englewood back on october 1st. both teens were alread when they were charged with murder. we don't know their names but expect an update from police tomorrow. it is four minutes after 6:00 right now. a man is recovering after a black bear attacked him in south park. the summit daily reports the mac was scouting for an upcoming hunting trip. that's when the bear came by, knocked him down and ran off. parks and wildlife says it was

they will try to catch and euthanize the bear. it is 6:05 now. are you counting down the days yet? exactly two weeks from today, the country will decide who our next president will be, with election day getting closer by the hour. both candidates are focusing on florida today. experts say those electoral votes could make it or break it this will be trump's second consecutive day in florid election is rigged and blaming the media for unfair coverage. because of that, his campaign has launched something called nightly campaign coverage. a live broadcast from his facebook page kicked it off. the campaign advisors hosted it. as for clinton, national polls show that she has a lead over trump. and a new survey shows more young voters are shifting her way. the new poll shows she is

ages 18 to 30. 35% for clinton to trump's 22%. she is also leading by a two to one margin among those likely to vote. in two weeks, colorado voters will also be choosing someone to represent us in the senate. either democratic michael bennet or challenger glenn. right now bennett is leading. glenn has a new supporter, senator ted cruz will be joining him in loveland and it is at the hilton at 11:00. and in denver at the park hill government course at 3:00. early voting centers opened up yesterday around the state. you can drop off your mail-in ballot. the last day to register for a mail-in ballot is next monday, october 31st.

you have until voting day to cast your ballot and register. an unforeseen issue has come up. people taking selfies with their completed ballots. there is a law in colorado that bans that. not everybody is happy about that law. andrew sorenson is live near a polling place in denver. one state senator has filed suit to get this overturned. >> reporter: gary, what could be more patriotic than taking a selfie of your ballot while you yo committing a crime in colorado. this goes back to an 1891 law that colorado has that says it is actually illegal to share how you're voting. the secretary of state says it is to keep people from bribing or intimidate people to vote a certain way. now it is getting a second look. hill is filing a lawsuit. >> this act of voting is one of the most sacred rights that we

another one of our rights. that is free speech. >> reporter: other states have seen challenges to these types of laws as well. about half of the states out there have a similar type of law. andrew sorenson. back to you. >> thank you, andrew. on those ballots, nine different measures. here is tarhonda thomas with a breakdown of some of them. >> you've got nine statewide ballot issues to consider in not meant to tell you which one deserves a yes or no. instead we want to help you understand the questions that you're being asked. so we're breaking down a few, including amendment t. it addresses the fact that slavery under some circumstances is still legal in colorado. amendment t asks, quote, shall there be an amendment to the colorado constitution concerning the removal of the exception to the prohibition of

punishment for persons duly convicted of crimes. voting yes means you want to remove language from the colorado constitution and change the laws so that people cannot be held as slaves or involuntary servants as punishment for a crime. voting no means you that want to keep colorado's original language in the constitution. now, next week it's up to voters to really interpret what this constitutional language means. if you need help considering both sides, turn to page 1 these in the mail. if you don't have one, we have a link on our website, 9news.com. and that's today's ballot breakdown. showers are out west this morning. but i would not be surprised to see a few track over us here over the front range during the course of the middle of the morning into early afternoon. after 3:00, we start clearing out. it will be very late in the day before we reach our high

attacked a police training center. at least 116 people were hurt, mostly trainees. officials say the gunman detonated explosive vests. more than 200 potential jurors are going to be in the pool to decide the fate of a former university of cincinatti police officer. jury selection for ray tensing begins today. boyce last year. de boyce was pulled over for missing a front license plate. transportation investigators say speed, a sleepy driver or a medical emergency may have been the reason for the deadly police crash in palm springs much the passenger bus collided into a tractor-trailer on sunday. 13 people were killed. 31 others injured. the ntsb will spend another week working on the

prince's paisley park in minnesota is getting the star treatment now and will soon be turned into a museum. city council members voted to rezone the recording studio and home to open up it as a permanent museum to prince. the plan is to turn the 65,000 square foot complex into a museum. it has been in the works but the council delayed a request from the trust company overseeing th star's estate. he died back on april 21st of an accidental overdose at paisley park. all right. let's get a check of the forecast with marty now. marty, it sounds like not as sunny but warm. >> still plenty warm, with an average high of 62. well above that. clouds or no. we do have the rain going on in western colorado this morning. some fog on the adjacent border with northeastern colorado. mostly in nebraska and kansas. dense fog going there. we see the showers moving

day. late morning into early afternoon. then once we get past about 3:00, 3:30, that's when you will see things clear out. as far as total rain goes, the best of it will be along and west of the continental divide. those who get a few showers down here along the i-25 corridor and east will be lucky, lucky to get a tenth of an inch. most of us less than that. low 70s for a high today. wait until way late in the afternoon for this because we will be cloudy so much of the 3:00 before we even hit these temperatures. because we have to wait for the sun to get out in full force. so the system transitions through. it is well organized. it cuts across and heads out into the plains and kansas is nebraska overnight. half an inch in the mountain areas and western valleys. snow above 10,000 feet. not a big deal there because a lot melting on contact. and the showers during the

degrees above average here. even with the light showers and considerable cloud cover. 50s and 60s for the mountains and west. 73, very light showers here and there during the middle of the day today. we start clearing during the afternoon. stay clear through the night. mid-40s for overnight lows. pleasant day tomorrow. then very warm conditions return. we will be flirting with records on thursday, friday, and sunday. each one of those days ha record high of 80 degrees. >> my goodness. nice, nice temperatures there if you like it warm. if you're waiting for the cool, it looks like you will have to wait. sky 9 over i-25 near i76 where there is a crash blocking the left shoulder of the drive. a police officer has arrived to help out with the situation. that is on top of another crash to the north end. as we take a look outside to the cdot cams and our view up to the north across the maps,

it is 61 degrees. extremely warm. 62 is our average high for today's day. we're way -- going to be way above that. we may see a few light showers here middle of the morning. maybe even a rumble of thunder is possible. after 3:00, we begin to clear out today. that's when we will read our high. it will be late in the day. showers have been moving through the west. decreasing a little in intensity. as we were talking about yesterday, the snow level is so high, it's for anybody during the course of the day today. really good rain going in and around cedar ridge and up into the grand mesa area. for the next three days, we clear tonight after a few light showers today. and then two days right near record highs. the record high for thursday and friday, both 80. on both of those days. and we are going to be right there.

between the wash park area of the commute and the downtown drive. fairing pretty well. off to the right shoulder of the screen, the right side of your screen, i should say, the southbound commuters are traveling at 55 miles per hour. out we go to the c470 drive. a quick look at highland ranch and littleton. both sides of the drive pretty nice. a few brake lights towards 25 itself. not a loha shoulder southbound 25. right near 76. as well as the crash thornton parkway. backups have not stretched past 104th. corey, it looks like the slowdowns take the speeds down to the lower 30s. >> thank you amelia. no clown masks or makeup. creepy clown reports are scaring people across the country. some school districts in colorado are now saying your kid cannot dress up as a clown at school this halloween.

is the clown costume ban necessary or are the schools overreacting? let us know. go to 9news.com/votenow and cast your vote for the winner. while you vote, tarhonda thomas is here to tell us more about this. you have talked to denver public schools about the threats. >> yeah. i did. just to be clear, there have not been any threats against denver public schools. but the creepy clown thing is too frightening for too many kids and parents so they are not allowing any clown costumes dps sent out a note saying so. this is the first time to her knowledge that dps has banned a particular costume at schools. they have always had bans on toy weapons. this year there is also a ban on clown costumes. this follows more than a month of clown sightings across the country. they are not just creepy, they are a le jet threat. people dressed as clowns have been arrested for chasing people with weapons and scaring people. some even tried to lure kids

more than 20 states have reported incidents. and police are not treating them as a joke. students are being told to leave the clown costumes at home. if a kid shows up in a clown costume -- >> if our students come to school wearing clown costumes, we have left it up to the school leaders to decide what to do. whether they change at school or they figure out an alternative that will be the option. >> denver public schools is not clown costume ban. jefferson and douglas county schools are leaving the decision up to principals. quite the talk right now. >> thank you, tarhonda. 56% or so say necessary. 41% say overreacting. >> yeah. >> 7 or 6% say it doesn't

denver. andrew, we have been hearing a lot about ballot selfies. but the real question on the table, self expression or crime. and that question may be answered in federal court. >> reporter: a new age, a new age of fundamental democracy. law enforcement have been warning people that you have to be careful how you share. in colorado it is illegal to share how you vote. it has been for about a hundred year ballot is actually a misdemeanor. a state senator and du student are suing over that law in federal court. they filed that suit this week. scott romano says it infringes on his first amendment rights. >> based on the number of friends that i, they're like, scott, how did you vote on this? what should i do on this? educate me. i should be able to take a selfie and post it on instagram or twitter or facebook. >> reporter: colorado's deputy

during world war ii, the skiing soldiers were headquartered at camp hail. it eventually moved to upstate new york. now the tenth mountain division is linking up with the colorado national guard to improve guard training. there will be a linking ceremony at camp hail this weekend to celebrate the new partnership. >> we will get light showers in a few areas today. we need a lot more than that in and around the de running somewhere between two to three inches below average for moisture. most of that deficit has come since august 1st. it's been extremely dry the last 90 days or so. around here, we will get some showers, especially middle of the day. 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. before clearing out later on. unfortunately no big downpours. you might get damp a little bit if you're outside around lunch

with halloween approaching we know the classic costumes. witches, vampires and mummies. now they are unable to unwrap real mummies without actually unwrapping this. two egyptian female mummies were given a ct scan. it gave them a information. one was mummfied when they were about 30. it also revealed answers to the hygiene all with a ct scan. >> it is a way to preserve them. when you do what you love, you're just happier. what if you could turn a hobby you love into a job? sounds great. we look at how you can do that in the more money for me segment. we played well tonight and hopefully we can build off of

brothers. baroques we'ller experienced the smash brothers. the broncos defense and offense played well. we could trevor siemian how it felt to get one up on brock. they had similar reactions saying it's not personal. it's just about the game. >> i don't know too much about that. it was broncos versus texans. it was a great win for us. we needed it. that's that. it is a great locker room to be part of. happy to get the win. >> so much was built up ab game. at the end of the day, it was the houston texans versus the denver broncos. we came up here tonight. we did not play a good enough football game to get this job done. but once again, give credit where credit is due. the broncos are a great team. >> all right. >> broncos won 27-9. next up, the chargers. >> the chargers. >> bolts. >> hopefully better this time

time. now that the broncos hope that they are starting another winning streak, they are preparing for their next game. mike has the best from last night and what they need to fix before hitting the chargers on sunday. >> reporter: the broncos easily beat brock and the texans 27-9 on monday night. it was a big win for the broncos. they snapped their two-game losing streak. i'll give you the good and the bad from that game. first, the good. as good as it felt have been for broncos fans to beat up on brock osweiler who jilted them back in march, the real key to the gauges the biggest thing to take away is the 190 yards rushing. c.j. anderson first running back hillary clintonman of last year goes over 100. booker as promised got more carries. did an excellent job with over 80 yards rushing. that's what the gary kubiak

work. it gives them balance. trevor siemian only 157 yards passing. but it was an efficient 157 yards. it complimented the running game very well. it was a ball control offense. played to the defense. that was about as well as the broncos could have hoped for after the two-game losing streak. now for the bad. it still took them a little too long to get started. the offense looked stagnant. if you can't run the ball and the bron setup the run, that was their game plan coming in. but they still haven't quite started a game running the ball. they have to get it going early. a lot of holding penalties early. holding penalties killed them against san diego. it looked like holding penalties were going to kill them. they rallied and came through. a big win. now san diego and oakland are up next. again, the broncos win 27-9 from the stadium.

place. >> around here we're looking at cloudy conditions. good visibility for us over the front range. not so far to the north and east. if you travel to the east this morning, or you're driving around, you are going to have some areas of limited visibility along the kansas and nebraska border. working outside today, rain gear might not be a bad idea. we could see a few showers mid morning to the early part of the afternoon. then we will be clearing it out for you at the end of the day. of course the broncos will be with the chargers back in town. looks like another ideal football day. actually a little on the warm side, with temperatures nudging between 75 and 80 degrees at kickoff. and holding in the 70s right through the ball game. we're checking in with sky 9. over i-25 near castle pines. both sides of 25 are okay here for now. south of c470, no problems coming out of the castle pines

camera, we are hearing about a possible grass fire near 25 right around founders parkway. happy canyon. we haven't confirmed anything. but we have seen flashing lights come through as well as the slower traffic in the northbound direction. and that fire has been reported on the northbound stretch of i- 25. but corey, we're waiting to confirm details. it could have been put out because the speeds are slowly increasing. i will have an update in a few. >> thank you, amelia. baking, photography, crafts. we all have a hobby. something that we do what if that hobby also brought you extra cash? john anderson with tegna introduces us to a student who found a way to market her idea and so far a major company and hollywood actress are buying in. >> i was highly inspired by my mom. >> reporter: that inspiration brought 19-year-old ann to the fashion school at kent state university. she started sewing at 13. just items for her.

60s in the foothills. we shift everything across here. middle of the day, move it out to the east later on with the best of the moisture in western colorado. we get what is barely left over coming over to our side of the continental divide. 50s in the mountains. 70s. warm and dry in southeastern colorado. 73. light showers here and there. after 3:00, it starts to clear out. continues on that trend through the night. and we st overnight lows in the mid-50s for tomorrow morning. good looking day tomorrow. and then up close to those record highs. thursday, friday and sunday all have a record high at 80 degrees. obviously we're forecasting at or above that for those days. so we could have a pretty interesting couple of days as far as record heat goes. saturday's record i believe is 84. i think we will come up shy of that.

they have been flying down to the south side. now back up to the dtc, things are standard for a tuesday start. really not too much to worry about anywhere south of colorado. further to the south though as we go out to the cdot cam, i mentioned a possible brush fire in the area of i-25 right around the exit near founders parkway. luckily the fire was extinguished quickly. sky 9 found out the fire was already out by the time they made it to with that are starting to break down as well. a couple of new problems. i-70 has a 20-minute delay between there and i-25. and the other crash is northbound 225 crash near colfax. the slowdown now is 22 minutes coming northbound. gary, that was about twice as dense as 225 northbound usually is. >> thank you, amelia. avoid that area if you can. the creepy clown threat has

including colorado. now some school districts in the area are banning clown costumes at school, especially for halloween. that means no masks, no clown makeup at my class party -- at any class parties. denver public schools and brighton 27j schools are the only ones we found saying no clown costumes. jefferson and douglas county schools say it is up to each individual principal school. a senator has filed a lawsuit against the law that says you can't take ballot selfies. voters have been showing pictures of the completed ballots. this goes against a law that has been around since 1891, way before the selfies. some lawmakers say it's outdated and goes against free speech. today marks two weeks until election day. both hillary clinton and donald trump are fighting for florida this morning. polls show clinton is leading

polls. now, to try to close the gap, glenn has a supporter coming into town, senator ted cruz of texas. he will be joining glenn in loveland and denver tomorrow. the event in loveland is at the embassy suites at 11:00. i misspoke and said rr earlier. >> i'm proud of our guys as a football team. we played smart all night long. >> players gave coach kubiak the game ball after they beat the texans last night. they were up against former bronco brock osweiler, making it a personal game for the players. and certainly for the fans if you heard the boos from the stands. brock did not have a good game. but the broncos did.

the first pitch of the world series is tonight. history is on the line as the both teams are the two franchises holding the longest world series droughts. the cubs have not won since 1908. the indians since 1948. >> a few showers and then we clear out tonight. and stay that way. dry through the weekend at least. and into next week. i do see a little bit of a cold halloween. but it still will be fairly nice. high near 67. trick-or-treat temperatures in the 50s coming up on monday evening. >> it's all relative. >> yeah. that's not bad. >> you may not have to wear the big puffy coat under the costume today. >> i may have to dress up as a lifeguard. what could be better than avoiding a trip to an eye doctor, how about an app that does that.

7:15 on channel 20. we are heading good morning. two weeks to go. the presidential race enters the homestretch. a new poll out this morning shows hillary clinton with a solid lead, but donald trump is not buying it. >> it's called voter suppression because people are -- oh, gee, trump's out. folks, we're winning. >> while the clinton campaign focuses on winning both the white house and congress. breaking overnight. a river rapids ride at a popular theme park malfunctions, killing four people, two of them thrown from their seats, two others trapped inside, as investigators try to figure out what went wrong. manhunt. a frantic search for an oklahoma man accused of shooting at least six people, including two police officers.
