rare jewelry like a rare diamond or something people will immediately know. >> that's the first thing i thought it's going to stand out just a little. what do i know? people do stupid things. that's why you still have a job. >> exactly. job security. two people are in police custody after a suspect threatened to shoot police in brighton today. a man and woman were arrested shortly after 2 p.m. outside of a home near 10th avenue and bush street. the arrest came after a nine this began shortly after 5 a.m. police say they received a call from a man who said officers were trying to kick down his door. when they arrived, investigators say they didn't find any other law enforcement at the home. officers say the man then threatened to shoot them if they tried to come inside. a woman was inside the home. police have not confirmed what involvement she had in the case. neighbors nearby watched the whole situation unfold. >> all the cops and my wife went to walk to work and she's

got the street shut down. and she was kind of freaked out by the whole thing, too. >> three schools in the area were also placed on lockout. the students were able to leave this afternoon as normal. the identities of the two people arrested have not been released. a cattle truck rolled over on eastbound i-70 this morning. a cattle truck packed with 80 cows, around 9:00 this morning. eight animals died and the crash caused backups for hours. the semi's brakes went out causing it to roll over. the driver was not hurt. 9news reporter matt renoux said 55 had been rounded up about the rest are still roaming around georgetown. matt will have a live report on 9news at 5:00. highs in the 60s across the metro area this afternoon, just a gorgeous day even with the cloud cover. meteorologist belen deleon is in the backyard. some cloud today but still no

high country and i'll show you that in a few. let's get to those graphics because it has been a very different day than what we had yesterday when our temperatures got into the upper 70s. today a cooldown coming in from the west has really dropped our temperatures especially in the high country. here in the metro area about 6 degrees cooler than 24 hours ago. our temperatures got into the low 70s across the front range and cooler in the high country where we've got 50s and 60s for places like nederland springs. winter park is drying out now, but we had some wet roads out there and fall all gone, that tree there in the foreground, no leaves to be seen. we're starting to see the transition of seasons in the high country. that rain that's been pushing in very scattered from the southwest. currently we have very light rain falling in our central mountains and even close to the front range mountains near nederland and just north of winter park. in northeastern colorado also some very light showers that

forecast right now is much drier across the front range, humidity at about 20%. so it's hard to get any of kind of precipitation over the front range. the view outside of our home here on speer and logan is starting to show blue in the sky and a little bit of a breeze. now the forecast the rest of the evening calls for clearing skies and our temperatures cooling down into the 40s. anything you have to do outside the remainder of this afternoon into this evenin will be dry, 60s through about 6 p.m. and in the low 60s after that sun sets. the overnight low will drop to around 46 degrees. so it's just an awesome afternoon and evening, just really clear for anything you want to do outside. the lows across the front range will drop to the 40s. this is above normal for this time of year and close to the foothills temperatures in the 30s. stick around. later in the show i've got more to talk about. tomorrow is hump day.

i have asked the deputy secretary of defense bob work. he is working on that right now, but it's a significant issue for the reason i indicated. >> a defense department spokesman says soldiers affected can petition to have the debt waived so they wouldn't have to pay it back. the military has the authority to waive individual repayments on a case to case basis, but it doesn't have the author it has come to the point that some so districts won't allow any clown costumes this halloween, no red noses, no squeaky shoes at denver public schools and it's all thanks to scenes like this, people dressed up as creepy clowns out scary people or even committing crimes, chasing kids or trying to lure them into the woods. yes, this has all happened recently. some of those cases across the country involve threats against

those threats, but the school is still notifying parents that all clown costumes are banned at denver public schools. dps has always had bans on things like toy weapons in school. this may be the first time the district has ever banned a specific costume. >> not in my knowledge of the history of denver public schools have we banned a costume before. this is the first time that nationwide it's been quite the frenzy, the clown costumes. so we hope that since it is so new people are paying at guidelines. >> if a student shows up in a clown costume, it's up to the individual school leaders to decide what to do. brighton 27j schools have banned clown costumes. jefferson and douglas counties are leaving it up to the principals to decide what to do. it is a good year to be a cu buff especially after many long lean years. coach mcintyre and the football team are enjoying a bye week

the park is the main tourist attraction district in australia's north eastern state of queensland. the four people ranged in age from early 30s to early 40s. the ride consists of six seated round floating devices that follow a water course simulating what would be on the river rapids. early reports indicate that the ride's conveyor belt malfunctioned and that may have ejected two of the victims and pinned the other two either >> we still want to cry. we think it was her mom involved in the accident. >> we were waiting about a half hour. the engineers had to come and drain all the water out and filled it back up. we were stopped about 30 to 40 minutes at least. >> the government is promising a thorough investigation. opposition labor party leader bill shorton tweeted his condolences.

deadliest accidents at theme parks on record. stocks closed lower today after weak corporate forecasts. the dow fell 54 points, the s&p lost 8, the nasdaq declined 26. wells fargo is trying to dig out of a huge mess after the bank admitted that thousands of low level employees had set up fake accounts to meet sales quotas. remember all this? it's launching a new advertising campaign to address the company's ongoing sales practices and what it's doing to make thin earlier this month. fortune magazine reports the bank could lose as much as $212 billion in deposits and 8 billion in revenue over the next year and a half. the attorney general is looking at names of people who had accounts opened without their permission, employees who opened the accounts and their managers. it is the largest auto scandal settlement in the nation's history. a federal judge in san francisco has approved a $15 billion court settlement of

volkswagen customers have the option of the buyback or a fix after the company rigged vehicles to cleat on emissions tests. about 4 -- cheat on emissions tests. about 475,000 owners of bws and audis with 2-liter and 4-liter engine will get cash payments of $5,100 up to $10,000. if you like to drive at night early -- at night or early in the morning to get to work, this could be a pet peeve for you. many popular trucks are shown to be falling short on lighting the way. only the honda ridge liner earned a good rating. all four small pickups earned a poor rating. the tests found out out of the 23 headlight combinations available of the pickups evaluated, 14 created excessive glare for oncoming drivers.

insurance safety institute to rate headlights beginning next year. >> most have traffic fatalities either at night or dawn or dusk. so for the driver to be able to see obstacles, to see the environment and make changes or come to a stop, the headlights are really the only thing that are going to be able to do that. >> and the tests include how far the high and low beams project light on and curbs. low beams are measured for the amount of glare created for oncoming drivers. we know everything from the elections to the holidays has people stressed out right now, but it could also be making some people pretty angry. >> and survival rates for women with breast cancer are rising,

after the obama administration announced yesterday that policyholders will see cost says go up by double digits next year. here's the breakdown. the benchmark plans are going up an average 25% in states that do not have their own exchange for those plans, so that does not include colorado since we do have our own exchange. united health, humana and aetna scaled back their roles leaving 20% of customers with option. prince reince priebus called it a full out trainwreck. survival rates for women with breast cancer are rising, although there are some exceptions. new data from the centers for disease control prevention indicates death cancer death rates among white women dropped 1.9% per year. for black women it's 1.5% per year, but the racial disparity between african american women survival rates and those of

even though breast cancer incidents rates now are equal for both races. >> women who are african american tend to be at a younger age of diagnosis. in general it's about four years younger than an average caucasian woman. they tend to have more aggressive breast cancers. also the tumors tend to be larger. they have a higher stage which is the size and whether it's traveled to the lymph nodes and beyond at the time of diagnosis. so all of age, more aggressive biology, higher stage, come together to give a worse prognosis and a worse survival rate. >> it almost makes you feel uncomfortable because it's like it's this hidden disease amongst our community and it's not. we're the face of breast cancer, too. >> questions about access to healthcare and treatment for african american women

one possible explanation for the disparity in survival rates. the conversation may be shifting about alcoholism. a new study shows women catching up with men when it comes to how much and often they drink. the gender gap narrowed over the last 66 years. researchers say it's not clear if women are drinking more or men drinking less, but the results show alcohol disorders are no longer just a male phenomenon. the trend is most prominent among young adults. from politics to police anger is a word we've heard a lo we wanted to know if americans are really more angry and, if so, why? 9news reporter whitney wild has some answers. >> give item for yourself and all the comics you've seen tonight. >> reporter: after about eight years in comedy. >> and i was like that's one angry mailman. >> reporter: josh androsky has developed a theory. >> there would be no comedy if there wasn't anger.

were he has a point. since 1979 gallop has been measuring whether people or satisfied or dissatisfied with the way things are going in the united states. this month just 28% of americans are satisfied down from a high of 70% in the months following 9/11 but up from just 7% when the financial crisis hit. >> so anger is this surface level motion, something that's very easy to access. it can hit us very quickly, but it's kind of like on the underneath that's explaining the anger. >> reporter: an nbc news esquire survey sheds some light where we started this year. the january report shows half of americans were angrier by the end of 2015 than 2014. there are a few possible reasons for this. the perception that the american dream is dead, our role in the world has weakened and race relations have worsened.

disappear after today unfortunately, a drier forecast for wednesday, thursday, friday and saturday. right now our temperatures are at 71 degrees at dia. out here in the backyard it's a pleasant afternoon. i have a mix of cloud and sun right -- clouds and sun over my head right now and we're at 70 degrees. currently we have a little rain falling in places near front range mountains like kremmling and some darker clouds down south near monument hill with a you'll notice the clearing by and large at the eastern plains where temperatures are in the 70s currently. a closer look and we'll see darker clouds to the south near monument hill and sunnier skies north near fort collins where we just saw that beautiful shot. temperatures there are in the 70s. here in the city our skies are gradually clearing and our rain chances are going down the rest of the evening. this afternoon 60s and tonight

temperatures are on e cool side. now rain, snow in the mountains, it really has not been that impressive. we don't have any travel advisories there. our chances for rain go down after about 10 p.m. in the mountains as the skies start to clear. in the city a few clouds around town and overnight through tomorrow morning our skies will be clear and our wednesday is setting up to be a very dry from east to west across colorado. 43 is your low tonight. skies clear. state, just a quiet weather pattern, 20s in some spots in the high country overnight and 40s for us in lower elevations and out on the eastern plains which is still above normal for this time of year. our jet stream forecast through the end of the week will build in this ridge. so this little kink that just kind of points over colorado through the end of the week will allow our temperatures to continue to warm. you thought we were done with the 80s? we could be seeing more of them

the yellow line you see here are the existing record highs and here's our forecast. notice thursday and friday we'll come really close to maybe tying our breaking that record high. by saturday that record high is 84 degrees. we'll be at 78 degrees. on sunday another possibility of seeing a record high. with our above normal temperatures for the month of october our overall monthly temperature right now is 56.9 degrees. that puts us at the sixth this is the last week of october. we are past that average first snowfall date for the metro area which is october 17th. so it doesn't look like we'll see any snow in october, but that's not an unusual thing. in fact, from 1882 to 2015 there have been 18 octobers with no snow and it looks like this one at least here in the city will be no. 19. so here's what the last week of october has in store for you.

country to provide the best trade links to the world. so we think this is the right decision for britain. >> a decision on the exact location of the new runway is still up for discussion. parliament is expected to vote on the deal next year. skiing usually comes with a drive, sometimes a really long and challenging drive into the mountains. there's a new option especially out of towners will like, a flight, two new flights from december. allegiance plans to operate year-round with about 10 flights per week. tell you'll ride regional airport is 10 minutes away from the town and the ski slopes. telluride is hoping this will boost business to a town that is very beautiful and just maybe too far for some folks. projections indicate some flights might be as low as 44 bucks. >> no way. >> that's what they're saying. we'll see. >> i would spend 44 bucks.

a little health news, if you're worried about heart attacks, you might want to consider spending more time in boulder. a new study reveals which u.s. cities rank lowest and highest for heart attack rates. boulder is on the top of the good side of the list. >> all those healthy folks out there running and cycling, whatever it is. 190 cities were looked at across the country of ann arbor, michigan, and tallahassee, florida, were ranked second and third. charleston, west virginia, had the highest rate of heart attacks. doctors say people with heart problems are less active and productive, have lower self- rated job performance and have more problem concentrating at work due to physical and mental health issues. just got to get out there, eat right, exercise.

welcome back, everyone. i want to introduce you to buddy. this is christy. thank you so much for bringing him over. buddy is a chihuahua short coat mix. he's 4 years old, neutered and he comes from the longmont humane society. so he's been at the shelter now for about a month. i say it's time for him to go home to find a home, to find a family. so here is the info on he's very sweet. he's been very well behaved in the backyard. we are coaxing him with treats. he's a very happy guy. he loves to go out on walks. he's a cuddler on the couch and he just likes to hang out at home with his best friend. we hear he would do best in a home with older kids. he's great with cats. he's awesome with dogs. he's coming to us from the longmont humane society and you

ware when he wasn't home last night. one of the things taken was ware's super bowl l ring. if you recognize them in the pictures, call 720, 913-stop. there is a reward. a standoff in brighton that lasted nearly nine hours has finally ended. it started around 5 a.m. when a man called police and said other officers were trying to knock down his door near south 10th avenue. when po only found a man inside the home threatening to shoot them. he had barricaded himself inside with a woman who was later identified as a suspect, not a hostage. around 2:30 the two came out and gave themselves up. schools were under lockout in the area for most of the day, but they were released on time. police have not released any information about either of the suspects. more than 286,000 coloradans have already turned in their ballots according to
