without a coat, jacket, hat or gloves. meteorologist belen deleon is in the backyard and it is going to be a great night for trick- or-treaters and the parents and all the folks that tag along. >> yes. if you're a zombie, you can be a zombie, not an eskimo zombie. the record high for today is 79 degrees set back in 1950. today our high, 79. let's look at those graphics because that makes it one of the warmest halloweens on reco got a little bit warmer than that or we're starting to cool on, but certainly a warmer than normal october day when normally we should be in the low 60s. we were about 20 degrees above our normal high for this time of year. the reason for ouwarm temperatures here on the front range was because of those downsloping westerly winds that were pretty active during the day. currently wind gusts across colorado are up to 20 and even 30 miles per hour in some spots

in the 60s and 50s in higher elevations. our friends in steamboat springs 38 degrees, very different for us here on the front range and eastern plains. out east temperatures are in the mid-80s and across the urban corridor our temperatures are in the low to upper 70s still with only a few clouds up over our head. the reason for the strongers winds is that we have a cold front approaching. you can see kind of a little bit of rain and seen is just kind of the front side of the front that's pushing to the southeast. the winds have elevated fire danger in some parts across colorado. southeastern colorado a red flag warning in effect until 7 p.m. and for our neighbors to the north wind warnings and also wind advisories and high fire danger currently possibility of seeing gusts up to 80 mile-per- hour for our friends in wyoming and the panhandle of nebraska, gusts possibly up to 45 miles per hour. you can see those wind moving

everywhere, roses in my neighborhood everywhere. it's crazy. thank you. a little more than a week out from election day now we're taking a look at the rights of the disabled when it comes to voting. here in colorado the state does not take away the ability of mentally or physically disabled people to vote unless ordered by a court and as 9news reporter maya rodriguez tells us, there are several groups working to make sure everyone knows just that. >> reporter: at the colorado days leading up to the election are busy for dawn howard. >> we really work to encourage all people with disabilities in the state to vote. >> reporter: howard has cerebral palsy and is helping organize a phone bank to call some of the 2,000 disability coalition members. the reminder? go vote. >> there are some misconceptions, especially around people with intellectual

>> reporter: but those are just that, misconceptions. >> we are one of a few states that does not limit a person's right to vote because of mental in capacity or because somebody has a guardian. >> reporter: jennifer levin is an attorney with disability law colorado. >> in colorado the only way you can be determined incapacitated to vote would be about if a court ordered that specifically saying you are incata >> reporter: but does that leave a lot to chance or the possibility of fraud? levin says the law makes certain assumptions. >> the state assumes that that person is voting the way they want to vote, not the way the person who is assisting them will help them vote. >> reporter: for dawn howard her driving mission is to make sure everyone's vote counts. >> it's really important that everybody votes whether or not

we make the decisions for everyone in the state. >> reporter: maya rodriguez, 9news. >> the secretary of state's office put a list of frequently asked questions when it comes to your right to vote if you have a disability. we've put a link to it on 9news.com. 866,668 ballots have been returned in colorado. here the breakdown from the secretary of 331,000 from democrats, oh 300,000 from republicans, 23,540 from unaffiliated voters, nearly 7,500 frolic terribles, just over 2,200 from -- for libertarians, just over 2,200 from green party voters. we have information about how to register, candidate and issue information and the voter guide on 9news.com. the election is 1 week from tomorrow.

inquiry into her e-mails. on friday the fbi announced a renewed investigation of her secret e flail server. the e-mails are -- e-mail server. the e-mails are tied to an investigation surrounding former congressman anthony weiner. they were on a laptop used by aide huma abedin. she and weiner were married the agents are using software to isolate clinton rt duplicates from the first investigation. republican presidential candidate donald trump is warning if clinton wins, she could be put on trial. the white house has not commented. >> why in the world the fbi would decide to jump into an election with no evidence of any wrongdoing with just days to go? there is no case here. >> we can be sure that what is in those e-mails is absolutely devastating.

to intentionally influence the outcome of the election. >> an nbc surveymonkey poll today finds this hasn't helped donald trump or hurt clinton. clinton has the same six point lead as before the investigation was announced friday. several state leaders in colorado are asking the people behind a political campaign in arizona to stop airing those ads. the ads oppose arizona's legalize recreational marijuana in arizona for people 21 years or old are and create a new -- older and create a new state department for those buying, growing and selling pot. it shows the owens urging people to vote against legalization of marijuana both critical of colorado claiming that we have the highest teen use of marijuana in the country and not giving money to denver

now colorado senator pat stedman is asking the no 205 group to stop writing the ads. they say the statements aren't accurate. the campaign's opponents say they used the rocky mountain high drug trafficking area for its facts. protesters are using facebook in their push to block the dakota access pipeline using facebook's check-in feature at the standing rock indian reservation even if they aren't really there. one post circulating on facebook said the mass check- ins were organized to prevent local law enforcement from checking protesters on social media. the sheriff called that false. native americans say the pipeline would taint water supplies and destroy sacred grounds there am.

traps. the bureau of land management said eight 18-inch wood nail boards were found between the popular redneck and pool and ice roots. the nail boards had 12 to 15 nails facing upwards. investigators have not identified the suspect or possible motive. the bureau of land managements believes the traps are only on an isolated small stretch of the trail. traffic over rabbit ears pass near steamboat was this morning a semi hauling powdered cement traveling west on highway 40 rolled. the semi driver was killed in the crash. the semi went off the right side of the road, landed on its top. clean-up took several hours because powdered cement was spilled across the enti area. the road has reopened. if you have to use speer boulevard, emergency work is expected to last through

underground down denver. the road could collapse if the vault didn't repaired. the vault under speer is one of the largest in denver. two lanes of speer boulevard, one lane of stout street will stay closed until repairs are completed. crews have to build a concrete building of sorts under ground which is extending repair times. broncos defensive coordinator ray phillips is back on the job again after a scary collision during the game it's hard to watch as he goes down when a chargers player runs out of bounds after an interception. phillips is taken out on a stretcher, sent to the hospital, released last night and is doing well. >> what i'm seeing today, he's himself today and the fact that he's battling me today when i'm trying to get him go home and get some rest makes me know he's back to his old self. so we'll see how he's doing. >> in classic phillips style he

a tough start to the week on wall street even after a report americans increased their spending in september at the fastest pace in three months. the dow fell 19, the s&p and

colorado's two largest telecom employers are merging. centurylink is buying level 3 communications based in broomfield. level 3 is the largest colorado based telecom employer. together these companies will employ nearly 9,400 people our state. the combined company will be based in louisiana. it's expected there will be a large number of employees in the denver metro area. the transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of next year. >> the scariest part of it to start to really compare these plans. november 1st, tomorrow, marks the start of open enrollment for health insurance in 2017. a group called partnership to fight chronic disease just released a report that says a common mistake people make selecting the right health insurance plan is paying too much attention to monthly premiums. >> you could end up paying more out of pocket to fill prescriptions or see a

i know you have a ton of regular folks that donate all the time. >> right there are people who love this event no matter whether they've donated six times a year or it's their first time. several hundred come out and it's their first time donating. they get over any leeriness or fear quickly because there's so much fun going on. there's a goodie bag. you get to interact with the players. >> you feel better when you woman. everybody is doing the same thing and it's no big deal. you hear the stories. your donation could potentially save many, many lives, one donation. >> every single donation can help up to three people because there's the red blood cells, platelets and plasma each have a special way to help the people in need. >> it must feel good to hear the story afterwards.

basements of a museum? that takes creepy to a whole other level. we're inside the denver firefighters museum in downtown denver. we wanted to bring you inside the basement because this blase is a -- place is a very historical place and sometimes spirits they say have been left behind making this place a little haunted. just nguyen ferrell with the museum joins me now. you've had some interesting experiences. you've been here a while. >> yes, i have. at night one time i was setting up a haunted graveyard down here in the basement for the kids to go through and i was setting up those big styrofoam tombstones taping them to the floor and i had one leaning against the table. there's no air movement down here. it's all steam heat. i went to the corner of the

how haunted can it be in here? >> my predecessor had two different mediums come and actually interactive with the ghost here. his name is caleb and he was a 17-year-old downs syndrome teenager who died in the 1870s. we don't have a definite date, never got a last name, but he has communicated with other paranormals who have come in. they've felt a also my volunteers tell me that there's several places on the floor that they've redone the concrete and it never sets up right no matter what they do and now the paint is peeling off of it. >> reporter: got the chills. >> yeah. >> reporter: great job. you've given me the chills, successful thank you for kind of giving us this little tour inside the denver firefighters museum. >> nothing like that green

gusty during the day especially in the foothills. that's the reason why our temperatures were able to warm up so much today. right now we have gusts up to 20 and 30 miles per hour in our northern foothills. our friends in southern wyoming are seeing gusts up to 40 miles per hour, same goes for the panhandle of nebraska where they currently have a red flag warning in effect. strong gusts out on the eastern plains as well. through this evening those winds are expected to improve and decrease. our squeeze in the temperatures will gradually drop into the 50s through 10 p.m. then we'll have partly cloudy skies overnight. our temperatures will drop to around 42 degrees. remember, the reason why these winds are increasing is because of a cold front that's trying to work its way through colorado. so your temperatures tonight will be cooler. in the mountains i think we can handle this, 30s in some spots, low 40s across the front range and on the eastern plains.

there are holiday procrastinators who wait till the last day to set the decorations and then there are these folks who like to plan ahead. at the city and county building in denver they set up the christmas decorations before halloween is over. there's a lot of testing ting done with a lot of lights for the day they flip the switch.
