destruction in last month's failed bombing in nederland. david ansberry is accused of attempting to set off a homemade bomb near the nederland police department october 11th. the bomb was concealed in a backpack designed to detonate remotely by cell phone. it didn't work. fbi agents arrested ansberry in chicago where he is waiting extradition to colorado. a settlement payment of $2.5 million ha died in the jefferson county jail last year of dehydration. 38-year-old jennifer lobato has been arrested for shoplifting. reports say the mother of seven was sweating, throwing up in her jail cell begging for help as she suffered from heroin withdrawal. the lawsuit says seven deputies ignored signs of her illness for 12 hours until her death. six deputies had been formally

says policies have changed since lobato's death. donald trump's running mate governor mike pence is on a multi-state campaign swing across the southwest this week including an appearance in less than half an hour in loveland. the republican nominee for vice president is scheduled to speak at 5:30 during a campaign rally at the ranch at the larimer county fairgrounds. earlier today pence had campaign stops in new mexico and arizona. na to return to colorado tomorrow morning set to rally with a group called california youth outdoors in fort collins. while pence works to get voters to back trump, clinton's campaign is also working to sway colorado voters. clinton's daughter just wrapped up campaign events in colorado. chelsea clinton spoke in boulder today urging voters to get their ballots in early. she told voters to stay engaged during the homestretch. >> for me this election is both about defeating donald trump

families and women for literally longer than i've been alive. >> bill clinton is expected to campaign for his wife in colorado later this week. the former president is scheduled to appear friday at events in pueblo, denver and fort collins. several polls show donald trump winning, others showing clinton ahead. the moody's analytics model has successfully predicted the winner of every presidential race since reagan. it's not a poll. it's mor certain patterns, three economic and three political factors used including the incumbent's approval rating and things like home and gas prices. this year the model points to a big win for clinton. however, we all know this election is unlike any other. >> our model only forecasts whether or not the incumbent political party will be reelected. it doesn't factor anything about the two specific personalities running for president.

our model says that a generic democratic candidate should be a generic republican -- should beat a generic republican candidate, but this is certainly not a year where we have generic candidates. >> polling is not used and the factors it does use are determined state by state. people have been placing flowers and cards on police cruisers set up at memorials outside the police departments in des moines, iowa, and died early this morning in what police describe as an ambush style shootings. the two officers were shot as they sat in their individual patrol cars a few miles apart. the suspect later surrendered. 46-year-old scott greene has a history of racist incidents and confrontations with officers. >> i can tell you based on what i've seen so far there was absolutely nothing either one of these officers could have done to prevent this or save themselves once it started.

case and say there's nothing to indicate anyone else involved in the shooings. fuel economy is at a -- shootings. fuel economy is at a record high. the average fuel economy increased by 1/2 a mile of 2015 vehicles to 24.8 miles per gallon. mazda had the highest average of 29.6 miles per gallon while fiat chrysler had the lowest at 20.8 miles per gallon. the epa transmission and lighter weights are improving fuel economy. on average 2015 vehicles are 25 pounds lighter than 2014 vehicles and they're expected to drop another 50 pounds in 2016. it could revolutionize our understanding of the universe. today nasa announced construction on the james webb telescope is now complete and it will undergo rigorous testing ahead of its 2018 launch. as 9news reporter maya rodriguez tells us, the

aerospace company is playing a cutting role in the space telescope. >> reporter: while the hubble telescope has lasted more than a 1/4 century, hubble won't last forever, so it's about to get a new space companion. >> it will be pretty. >> reporter: this is the james webb telescope scheduled to launch in october, 2018. unlike hubble which captures images from its orbit around earth, the webb telescope will travel 1 million miles space to take its pictures. >> this is technology that did not exist when this telescope was conceived and when it was agreed that we would do this, the technology still did not exist. >> reporter: but it does now. construction of the webb telescope is done and testing is about to start on what will be the largest space telescope ever launched. >> it's gigantic. you can see this beautiful gold telescope is seven times the collecting area of the hubble

moon, we would be able to see you. >> reporter: boulder aerospace built the mirrors which will enable the webb telescope to capture new images of galaxies far beyond our current view. we spoke to the program manager from ball aerospace earlier this year. >> we're going to discover things with this telescope that we don't even know to ask. >> reporter: that's because webb will capture images on a different spectrum than hubble and that could lead to new discoveries like looking for things on far away planets. >> water vapor is one of our top targets. we'd like to know if a planet has enough water to have an ocean. >> reporter: after webb launches in 2018 it will take another six months before it finishes unfolding and begins to send back pictures, an agonizing wait after years of planning. >> you never stop holding your breath. >> reporter: maya rodriguez, 9news. >> pretty incredible stuff. the hubble space telescope is expected to last into the 2020s, but at some point it

meteorologist kathy sabine in the 9news backyard. a little beneficial moisture coming in the form of rain and snow today but not very impressive. this morning taking the kids to school 7:45 in douglas county, did you see this? this picture coming in from weather nation, jerry sending in a picture, so many of you sharing with us the early morning rainbow and up high 3 to 6 inches of snow in areas like winter park overnight. it's beautiful in our southern mountains now, just an hour ago some rain showers through there. there's a little snow on the ground way up high at loveland ski area. it's hard to complain about a day like. this the commute looks good on i-25. our high today at 61 is right about where we should be this time of year. 70 in lamar. this is our coolest day. we aren't headed near record territory. you might as well take that of on the calendar. temperatures -- take that off the calendar. temperatures will warm in the next few days. a light northeasterly breeze

the storm is off to the east. here comes high pressure again, warm, dry, stable layer of air in play for colorado and points westward, a trend for much of the week. the storm dropped south bringing showers to central texas. an upper level low spinning in arizona will also start to lift northward, come in as an open wave and may bring a 20% chance of showers to us saturday. tomorrow sunny, warm day, less wind for many areas, cool air on the jet thro area, diminishing snow showers in the central and southern mountains, no winter weather or travel advisory. with clear skies temperatures will probably go a lot colder than last night. we managed low 40s along the front range. tonight we're headed to the 30s where you'll find yourself early tomorrow morning with some 20s on the map up in the high country. 69 grand junction thursday, same in greeley and denver, not much warmer in southeastern colorado. temperatures are trending above average the rest of the week
