for our safety. >> happy veteran's day, everyone. take a moment to remember everybody out there who has given so much for our country, that's for sure. good morning. gary and corey with you and marty joins us, too. marty, a little bit cooler, i guess, huh? >> it is. we had the front come through yesterday afternoon. it was mostly wind and the colder air settled behind it. it's still going to be a pretty mild day out there for you. clear and dry here in the early morning sky here over metro dry conditions continue over colorado. frankly, much of the country. we have small areas of rain in the south, the extreme northeast and it continues to just pour in the pacific northwest where they have such heavy rainfall totals. they're going way above average. for us, moving into the 50s. today note the average high today is 54. we're certainly in the neighborhood where early november sometimes settles out. tomorrow it does get warmer. we'll be cool when we start off 9 cares colorado shares

be undergoing repairs. they're replacing aging toll equipment between 25 and parker road and expect delays of 10-15 minutes. ? ? protesters were out again protesting against donald trump. this morning the anger has yet to reside. 9 news reporter joining us this morning with all on this that. this is the second night in a row out. >> yes, it is. those protesters in denver joined others across the country expressing the same concern. they say that a donald trump presidency represents things like racism and home phobia. last night they expressed those things in a rally that stopped traffic. they approached i-25. another group of protesters blocked traffic in the heart of downtown denver near the state capitol and 16th street mall.

ofprotesters were at the state capitol, too. everything last night was peaceful. there were no incidents or arrests in denver. the protesters say they just want to be heard. meanwhile trump supporters say the protests are unwarranted since trump won the election. >> i don't think it's warranted, and i also don't think it's entirely sincere on their part. i think they are unhappy with the election results. >> i just honestly didn't feel right after the election on tuesday, and after all the hate news feeds. >> overnight, trump took to twitter blaming the media for the protests, but about an hour ago, he had a change of tune. he tweeted out this quote. love the fact that the small group of protesters last night have passion for our great country. we will all come together and be proud, end quote. so a change from what he responded last night. >> yes. >> okay. >> different than what he

fingers at the media. >> different message this morning. we'll see if he talks about it at all today. >> thanks. new this morning, two days after the election, we now know trump won arizona's electoral votes that puts him at 290 to clinton's 228. the only states left to count up are michigan and new hampshire. a person was killed walking on northbound i-225 at 6th avenue. police in aurora say a driver of a car hit the person about 120 2:30. no other details about the victim or who was driving the vehicle have been released yet. the son of denver broncos owner pat bowlen has lost his bid to overturn a harassment conviction. he was found guilty of pushing his girlfriend during a fight back in april. he argued the charge was written wrong in a court document: he is serving two years of probation. for months crowds of people have gathered in a remote section of north dakota to

some of those who made their way to the standing rock reservation in southeast north dakota include people from colorado who say the pipeline could potentially affect a vital water source. 9 news reporter mia rodriguez is there with the story. >> reporter: the dakota access pipeline, bigger than many communities in north dakota. among the people here at the camp the protests here began in april when native americans from the nearby standing rock reservation came out to try and stop construction of the dakota access pipeline. the more than 1,100 mile long pipeline crosses several states and the intention is for it to carry more than 400,000 barrels of oil every day from north dakota to illinois. the concerns for those who live on the reservation is part of the pipeline that crosses

water here and they fear the potential for contamination if something goes wrong with the pipeline. c.u. denver professor was at the camp and told us what is happening here is a situation with many layers. >> in my field, we talk a lot about wicked problems, which are problems in which we see no foreseeable end in sight. do i think that the apo has got to a wicked problem status? i don't. i think that there will be an end in sight and there are opportunities to coalesce around the issue and try and build a dialogue between or among all the parties that are involved. >> reporter: the story here is complex. the inner section of business interests, tribal treatise and the federal government. we'll break all of that down in our stories later today on 9 news. at the standing rock

celebrating veteran's day today. and it's a day much more typical of this time of year as we move into the upper 50s this afternoon, that's a near average, slightly above average temperature with a few clouds drifting in late in the day today. we've been showing this graphic a lot here. the latest recorded snowfall in the denver area, measurable snow, i should say, november 21st, 1924. we are on track, the way i'm seeing things right now, to break that record and beyond. it looks like we may not see snow until perhaps thanksgiving day. >> it's not always a record you want to break though. >> no, it isn't. the very first veteran's day was on november 11, 1919. back then it was called armistice day, marking the anniversary marking the end of world war i. it's now evolved into a day we pay tribute to all american veterans, those still with us and those who

on the bridge on veteran's day every year? >> it is. one of the things you're going to see out here on union avenue over i-25 was started by a local veteran. he tells us the day after 9/11 he decided he had to do something, and that something ended up being standing on this bridge with a flag. pretty simple, but this vet named chris tucker started all this a few years ago and says he expanded it to doing six times a year since. we have video of but they also do it on veteran's day. every time he does it he said people come out of the woodwork to help him. tucker said he gets a lot of thank you's for doing this. veterans thank him for getting the thank you they never got. when i spoke to him yesterday he said he was talking to a vietnam veteran in tears saying when i came back, i got spat on. what you're doing here gives me the thank you that i've never

the broncos have lost three of their last five games and this weekend they're hoping to turn it around against the new orleans saints. good news for denver, the saints have one of the worst pass defenses in the league, so the denver offense has to kick it into high gear this weekend to win. but it's usually the broncos defense that wipes a game that will be hard without aqib talib and wolfe. and brees is one of the best quarterbacks in the league. >> he's exceptional. one of the finest players i've ever seen from being a quarterback guy and watching that position, this guy has been exceptional for years and years. drew can throw to spots with his eyes closed. >> drew brees is a heck of a player and he's bog to find a way to score a ton of points. not thinking too much on the

west evans avenue to the south. earlier this year, plat park was named one of denver's only two neighborhoods that were affordable. that means the median price for homes about $508,000, but there are plenty of options in the lower ranges. $350,000 range and down. outside of the neighborhoods residential areas, you have kind of a hipster friendly south broadway corrid pearl street. 9 news neighborhoods is taking you on a walking tour of plat park this afternoon and that should be fun.

afternoon. nice cool morning and then late in the afternoon will be when we hit these high temperatures. across the state we have those areas of clouds anticipated to drift in pretty late in the day. as far as wind goes, fairly calm this morning. then we're going to pick it up over the afternoon and tonight over the eastern plains coming up out of the south, at times over 20 miles per hour. mid-60s in the west. mountain areas and eastern colorado, pretty much in the same area with 50s degrees. for us today, it will go 59. sunshine early. some late afternoon clouds begin to sneak in. they're not going to hang around that long. gilligan down close to freezing again tomorrow morning. dry conditions tomorrow. cloudy skies, windy conditions on sunday, especially in the foothills. and very warm to start next week. still inching close to a record high on tuesday.

little busy on the side streets. we have a vehicle fire that's been reported across 37th and lowell and across your drive on federal there's a new crash right around kentucky. this combination means the west side of down, west of 25 is getting a little bit heated. we are looking at i-25 though. nice and clear coming through both directions downtown up north towards fort collins. your drive along i-25 is looking great. starting to see the first indication of light as we look across our 25 the downtown corridor up towards areas like he-470 and the northeast park way. it's a clear start. the feeds are nice and high and travel times across town are still in the green. gary? >> thank you much. after naming its first cover boy, cover girl magazine is announcing another first.

all people feel beautiful. they've now named their first muslim girl, nura afia, from right here in denver. she's the first cover girl who wears a hijab. she graduated from smoky hill high school in aurora. she already has a huge social media following and has been doing makeup tutorials on her youtube page for years. >> there were some muslim bloggers i would watch, and they were more focusing on
