>> reporter: after several hours, cleanup crews swept sidewalks and packed containers with things belonging to the homeless. >> we're not going nowhere! >> reporter: some refused to move on the corner. >> we're gonna try and stand here as long as we can to hold the cops off and stopping the people from coming in and taking all our stuff. >> reporter: the city and department of human services says they were there not to arrest the protect and clean the sidewalks, which are soaked with urine. >> we've seen some biohazards, we have some safety concerns. and really what we want is to connect people to safe and clean shelter spaces. >> you've seen my button that says sleep where. >> reporter: the city says there are as many as 200 places for the homeless to stay. still they're fighting back, filing a

efforts to remove them from public sidewalks. >> the lawsuit says stop doing this, stop sweeping people up, stop trashing their property, treating these people like trash. >> reporter: florence williams encouraged the homeless to take a stand, and they did. at the end of the day, some of the sidewalks have been cleared and cleaned. another is still filled with the homeless refusing to leave. >> we're humans. we're not dirt. >> reporter: city crews say to finish cleaning the area which has become a dangerous eye sore. >> that is the second sweep in that area so far this year. the first was in march. the mayor maintain s this sweep was unsanitary and unsafe conditions. republicans have renominated paul ryan to be the house speaker when next year's

donald trump's agenda. harry reid acknowledged that donald trump won fair and square clinton won the popular vote, many americans are unhappy with the result. trump's team is moving quickly to help the president elect choose his cabinet. mike pence is in new york heading up the trump transition, and the speculation that trump will pick his secretary of state.

it took almost a week to sort out this election result, but the results are in: denver voters approved a city law that would allow people to use marijuana in some restaurants and bars. there are a lot of rules for businesses to follow and they need to partner with neighborhood groups to get a license so it's unlikely you'll see a lot of places. you won't be able to buy marijuana in these places. we'll break down more of what denver's social use law will look like in practice. president obama is making his first stop of his last foreign trip as u.s. president. he held a news conference in which he was asked what's happening in the u.s. following the election. he warned about a growing movement dividing people based on religion and race and says people need to think seriously about the messages being sent. >> the future of humanity and the future of the world is gonna

experts say it's important to realize that disasters can impact the health of victims. after katrina there was also an increase in people suffering from addiction and psychiatric problems. hundreds of tourists from the south island of new zealand after too many earthquakes shook the region this week. the tremors caused extensive damage to roads and rale a popular place for whale watching has been completely socked in by landslides. around 1,200 tourists were stranded, many forced to stay in makeshift campsites and make do with whatever food they could find. leaders estimate between 8,000 and 100,000 landslides have been caused by the earthquakes. a woman in manhattan is
