we are taking a live look at the i-25 exit crews are here extinguishing a fire that exploded into a big ball of flames. you can see the vehicle on the right shoulder of the drive. they are allowing cars through now. which is surprising. the northbound 25 drive south of greenland is south of the colorado springs drive. what we are looking at here is the crews working on this, they just got the last of the flames out. they have been spraying water on the car. it looks to be an suv. there is a lot of white smoke.

friday morning. in wyoming and western nebraska winter storm watches for tonight and friday. for windy conditions and two inches of new snow. we are concerned about the combination of low temperatures, low humidity and strong winds. we have extreme fire danger areas today. red flag warning for high fire danger today. the reason for that winds that will be really in and near the foothills and stretching down through southeastern colorado and into the southwest later in the day today. it is going to be an extremely warm day. into the upper 70s. i think we'll break our high of 77 degrees today. >> we'll enjoy it one more day. von miller is scrambling to

tape. he is the unnamed athlete in a lawsuit filed last week in los angeles. it says a woman in california is threatening to release a tape recorded in cancun if he doesn't pay her $2.5 million. a judge signed an order to stop her from releasing that recording. the team is not discussing this. one of the two men who the denver d.a. said fired gunshots that hit two people will face a judge today. he including attempted murder. denver police say he and another man shot two people on maxwell place in august. he is still in custody and has a second advisement this morning. guilty is the decision a jury made about this man who was convicted for killing a 2- year-old. john white of greeley will spend life in prison now for the death of michael laura, the

bull knocked the boy down the home's front doorsteps. it is called the trump effect. groups have seen dramatic surges in donations since donald trump's election. they have gone to the american civil liberties union, planned parenthood and the sierra club. any organization pledging to resist trump's administration that could undercut their causes. aclu says they ha planned parenthood reports 128,000 people made donations in the past week or so. denver and aurora police are addressing fears about president-elect donald trump's immigration policies. two departments say they are not going to get involved. 9news reporter tarhonda thomas more on the promises this morning. communities across the country are worried about mass

have been contacting police wondering if local police will help track down undocumented people that trump is president- elect. the answer is no. immigration enforcement is handled on a federal level. it is not the police department's duty and they don't plan to start enforcing immigration law. while the city will comply with federal immigration laws it won't support unlawful detention. donald trump did a lot of talking abt in the days since trump was elected people have been calling the police departments worried. they said even with trump as president-elect they don't plan to change their approach to immigration enforcement. >> we will not change that. we will not change anything within our policy. we will not be asking questions in regards to a person's immigration status.

officers will not enforce, investigate or detain people based on their immigration status. on the state level gone hicken looper said colorado will resist federal efforts from mass deportation. >> it is interesting. we'll have to see what the federal plan will be. we know colorado will be independent of that. thank you very much. one group in colorado will protest trump's immigration status today. they are asking lawmakers to protect immigrants and welcome refugees. they'll gather at the capitol at 11:00. a number of families are arguing one school district forced religious programs on their kids and they want it to stop. families are fighting douglas county schools saying they promoted religious programs. families argue that violates first amendment rights from

efforts for two mission groups. families first filed a lawsuit about it in october of 2014 and lost. they'll repeal the ruling at 9:00 this morning. superintendents from the state's largest school districts will meet today to talk about ways to improve education in colorado. business leaders will join them. they'll focus on various concerns including educator talent, colorado's teacher shortage and the state of education as a has received the largest gift in its history. more than $53 million. all will go to scholarships, faculty and research programs. a former chairman of nebraska donated the money. the university will rename the engineering school after him. $53 million is a big gift there. >> that is really amazing. here today it is warm and dry.

crews hope to be done with repairs by 3:00 this afternoon. independence pass near aspen is closing. if you want to take the gorgeous drive today is your last chance. cdot will be shutting down the aspen gates at noon on thursday since snow is expected in that area. warm weather allowed them to keep it open two weeks longer than originally planned. the pass usually reopens the thursday before memorial day weekend. you would independence pass closes down for the winter season ski resorts could start opening up. that's not the case this year. two mountains are pushing back opening days. we'll tell you which ones ahead. 7 games versus 70 sounds

above 8,000 feet. wyoming and nebraska two to five inches of snow. we could see eight to nine inches in the black hills. in the mountains of central and northern wyoming 10 to 18 inches of snow while the valleys will be in the three to six inch range. the storm will affect folks to our west and to our north way more than us. for us today wind is going to be the big deal especially down south and in the about fire danger today. we have learned more about the car fire down to the south along the i-25 northbound stretch as you head through at greenland. we made a call and found out that the northbound car was traveling there up towards that greenland exit and they struck a deer. that's how the for a cheirobegan -- -- car fire began.

thanksgiving is over a week away. outlook for black friday is being forecast. shopping holiday might be different this year. mainly because there is no waiting. plenty of deals are being offered before thanksgiving. unless there are those who simply like to do it will may not be long lines of people camped out in front of stores like in the past.

for those willing to wait until cyber monday most stores will offer deeper discounts on the monday after thanksgiving. a couple concerts announcements are taking the fans back to their younger days today. in june at the pepsi center new kids on the block will perform along with boys to men and paula abdul. it is her first concert in 25 years. presale starts today with tickets opened to everybody on saturday. bruno mars is coming to the pepsi center later in his concert is set for the day before halloween. i would like to see both of those. i don't know if i have the money to do that. the wish list, we can always have a wish list. record heat we could hit today is stumping ski resorts. vail has joined many mountains pushing back the opening days. vail is not going to open until

day along with breckenridge. breckenridge plans to open saturday. next week skiers will have something to be thankful for. beaver creek, winter park, aspen, crested butte, steamboat springs will get lifts opening next week. it will come. >> it is true. it is interesting how our expectations changed in the modern era of snow making. it used to be nobody got opened before thanksgiving. high clouds strong southwesterly wind ahead of the storm we have been talking at. it will move into the state because it is taking a slightly more northerly track. it will push the best snow tomorrow in mountain areas and along and north of the wyoming and nebraska border. which leaves us with a dry, windy day today. upper 70s to near 80 here at lower terrain. gusty winds especially along c- 470, e-470 and in the foothills where we'll be in the 60s and 70s.
