the snow is on the way. today is the day for parts of colorado here is the radar, you can see- it'll be a little snow and it will be north and west of denver for the most part. right now the system is west of the divide. we're watching it as it gets closer... to...but you can feel a shift in the temperatures. right now it is degrees outside. grab a jacket on the way out this morning. it's no surprise we're not seeing much powder downtown this morning. we hit 80 degrees tuesday. we hit 80 - only one other time in november - in the records that go all the way back to the late 1800s.

may fall now, or going forward. there will be 142 snow plows avalialble for the metro area this winter. 90 of those will be the eye-70 corridor alone. there will be metering on eye-70 at the johnson- eisenhower tunnels this winter, to try and control how many cars go thru it at a time. and the state patrol is urging drivers to make sure they know the chain and traction laws. if your tires don't have enough tread and you are found responsible for a crash or stopping traffic - you'll be fined hundreds of dollars. fire crews are looking forward to today's shift in weather after dry and windy conditions continued so late into the year. wednesday--hay bales burned near watkins for more than 6 hours after a house fire spread to wheat field south of dia. the home was a total loss - three

injuries. a grass fire in thornton wednesday spread to one home-- as well as a few smaller buildings and cars. no one was hurt. president elect donald trump continues to make cabinet selections. and today another name is in the mix for secretary of state south carolina governor nikki haley is a contender with former new york city mayor rudy guiliani for the position. but eight days in - reports say the transition team is jockeying - leadership changes and complaints. trump's team blames the griping on sour grapes from people forced out-- as they purge lobbyists. something trump supporters say they're behind. while both president bush's made their first cabinet nominations - within a few days of the win-- it took president obama - two weeks... president clinton - more than a

vice president elect heads to capitol hill today after a visit with his predecessor in washington. pence will join a meeting of the house g-o-p conference... then in the afternoon he's expected to meet with senate majority leader mitch mcconnell. the vice president-elect also plans to get together with democratic leaders chuck schumer of the senate and nancy pelosi of the house. transition moves along-- undocumented immigrants are watching closely to see if he makes good on promises to depart millions. denver mayor michael hancock has come out saying they are safe in denver. the announcement comes despite threats to cut federal fundinsg from cities ignoring immigration law. the mayor said he would not support a declaration like one made in san francisco. it ordered city workers not to cooperate with immigration agents.

castle rock home where explosives were found on halloween is at the beginning stages of getting cleaned up. two teenagers were arrested after police found dangerous chemicals they say could have been made into a bomb. the owners haven't been able to go back since firefighters red tagged the property two and a half weeks ago. since it's not clear what the chemicals are--everything needs to be tested, logged, decontaminated and thrown away at a

the process could cost the homeowners up to 10-thousand dollars. denver police say they're not sure who may have spray painted messages of hate - on a transgender woman's car in the capitol hill neighborhood. the woman says she knows what's driving the attack though. neighbors also responded with their own messages of love and support. they wanted to let amber timmons know - they care for her - and stand with her. police have looked into it - and don't have any suspects at this point.

will be in court today. robert dear has been undergoing psychiatric treatment since a judge ruled that he was not competent to stand trial in the case. today's hearing will be on his competency evaluation. attorneys have argued about which records should be released from the state mental hospital where dear is being treated now. a children's hospital in war torn aleppo, syria-- is out of service today after being hit with bombs. the underground hospital was the only specialty facility for il four-thousand patients a month. witnesses tell n- b-c news it was hit by bombs dropped from syrian helicopters. security is tight today -- outside of the berlin hotel where where president obama is staying during his farewell european tour. the president is set to meet with german chancellor angela merkel -- today and then with other european leaders friday. on his last overseas trip before president elect takes office in january, mr. obama is seeking to reassure european allies who are concerned about the implications of

parents and students in jefferson county will be able to get a sneak peek at a new school today. rose stein international elementary school will now sit on what used to be know as stein elementary. jeffco public schools relocated stein to o'connell middle to ease overcrowding. in the meantime the building that was stein was renovated. the school will reopen with its new name in time for the 2017-18 school year. we could learn more today about the state's final decision on drilling for gas and oil in the white river national forest. the bureau of land management looked at 65 oil and gas leases in the forest that have been issued from 1995 to 20-12. they've used those findings in their decision today. federal leaders will join colorado governor john hickenlooper to make the announcement around eleven this morning. we'll keep you posted on what they decide.

institute for highway safety has to say today about boosters. 48 out of 53 booster seats... received the highest ratings... in the institute's latest series of tests. consumers were told to avoid only two. dorel-- still has top picks on this latest list. you can see all of the booster seats that passed the tests at i-i-h-s dot org. a photo shoot is going viral today giving women across the world a "ray of hope." this powerful array has already reached around three million people online. as it gains popularity, it's helping to spread awareness about "rainbow babies." kiya edwards with our sister station in saint louis missouri explains.
