bars. it is illegal to buy and consume marijuana in the same place under the state law. rtd's problems keep piling up and now rtd is admitting its g and r line will not open this year as scheduled. 2016 had been the target for years. the g line will run to arvada and wheat ridge and the r line goes out to aurora. rtd told the business journal it's a series of small slip-ups that have built up and delayed association said it won't allow testing with the g line until problems with rtd's a line, the airport line, is fixed. the issue there and also with the b line, i know, this is alphabet soup, it's the crossings. guards are now stationed at the a line crossings around the clock while that software is not working. earlier this month rtd got a 90 day extension from federal regulators to keep running the a and b lines while they work on those problems. a health study from metro

rocky flags nuclear plant have experienced rare and unusual illnesses. this plant was located 16 miles from north of downtown denver between arvada and superior. for nearly 40 years the plant used plutonium. the survey focused on people living within a 10-mile radius of the plant when it was active from 1952 to 1992. the results seem to corroborate speculation about the potential health effects of living near the nuclear production facility. 840 cases of cancer were the disease. researchers say typically in the u.s. only about a 1/4 of cancer patients are considered rare. a father lost his battle to cardio angiosarcoma. another boy in the neighborhood did as well. >> so the chances of having this rare cancer in one neighborhood, a handful of them, was too coincidental. >> the findings are drawn from

on 9news.com/sideeffects. president-elect donald trump selected some of his most prominent supporters for top positions in his administration. he selected former lieutenant general michael flynn as national security advisor, a position that does not require senate approval. veteran alabama senator jeff sessions is trump's choice for attorney general. kansas congressman mike pompeo was selected as cia director and mitt romney is going to discuss the secretary of position. president-elect donald trump agreed to a $25 million settlement for trump university, a victory it was said for the over 6,000 victims. an attorney for the plaintiff said all participants will get at least half their money back, some full refunds. a trial was scheduled november 28th. trump's lawyers say the deal includes no acknowledgment of fault or liability and should allow the president-elect to devote his full attention to the job ahead. polite political

temperatures are heading towards the teens in denver tonight. we've been below freezing most of the evening so far. meteorologist danielle grant will join us soon with an update for the weekend. [ sirens ] boulder is more fun when the buffs win. pearl street stampede, the band, cheerleaders, players center stage the night before the big ranked buffs take on the no. 22 washington state cougars. if cu wins the next two games, they're headed to the pac-12 title game. tonight folsom field is ready to go for the buffs and cougs. it's an unlikely match-up of division leaders in the pac-12. the past decade these two teams have fewer wins than any other programs from the top five conferences. cu is at the bottom of the list, 35 wins in the previous 10 seasons. the buffs have eight this year.

football is one that sounds remarkably familiar, one involving another coach mac. 34 years ago coach bill mccartney ended his first season 2-8. two years later the team went to a bowl and eventually national championship. our kim christiansen tells us many players say that experience was life changing. >> reporter: young men drawn to the game and evenal another. >> i'm 17 years old. i've been living in southeast iowa. >> i came from a small town in north central missouri. >> i grew up in boulder and so for me it looked very appealing to go elsewhere. >> reporter: all brought together by one man. >> i went to stanford, loved it, thought that would be a great place, went to ufc, mix. those are my final -- michigan,

a debate is going on splitting homes right before the holidays. this debate isn't over who won the election. it's over what is on the radio. time for kozi christmas. kozi 101.1 flipped the switch and started playing christmas music at 5:00 today. some people have been calling since the day after halloween asking for it. others wish they'd hold off a little longer. we posed that question on 9news at 9:00 and nearly 2/3 sa right time to start. about 25% say whenever the mood strikes. tis the season around here. it's starting to look more like the holidays with the snowfall coming into the metro area yesterday and now up in the high country they're getting a good dose of this winter weather in time to see a lot of our ski resorts opening up, this great shot across vail, the resorts covered in snowfall. a nice change of pace.

trees awfully frosty. we're keeping a close eye on who is open and will be open in the next week or so. loveland, a-basin, copper still opening. so far 1.7 inches officially at dia. we have a ways to go certainly to hit our average. this is a taste of what's to come. today was cold, 32 degrees, all we could muster at the airport, a little warmer relatively speaking in northern colorado, fort collins and greeley mid- to we hit 44 in lamar and pueblo this afternoon and low 40s across the western slope. look at this. factor in the winds. this is what it feels like outside right now, 5 degrees, 5 whopping degrees in denver, burlington 8 in limon and feels like 9 in gunnison. at the airport temperatures 17, mostly clear skies. in the 9news backyard it's cold, 209 degrees, not quite as frosty downtown.

cold, i anticipate it being the coldest. >> it's of the season -- coldest night of the season. we'll have clear skies and light winds to allow decent radiational cooling that should drop temperatures down to the single digits in kremmling, alamosa. our storm system rolled in and out. it was a fast mover still producing snowfall in minneapolis and rainfall, some severe weather lining up parts of back at home quiet, clear skies an across the midsection of the country. this will be the name of the game the next 24 to 48 hours. look for quiet sunny weather for your weekend. it looks great. if you're thinking but abouting up the holiday lights, now -- about putting up the holiday lights, now is the time. by 4:00 tomorrow evening you'll notice a couple cloud streaming in along i25 and western slope,

it. tomorrow feeling good, seasonal at 52, wind coming at us fife to 10 miles per hour, but that's about it. we're in the mid- to upper 40s for the northeastern corner of the state, still a couple cold pockets up in the high country. it ill with feel and look more like november -- it will feel and look more like november. 52 degrees in denver, littleton, mid-40s in longmont, cool across the red feather lakes area, grand mid-60s, sunshine, feels good out there sunday afternoon, but another storm system is on the way bringing us a few clouds monday, possibility of a rain/snow mix monday night into tuesday, drops off our temperatures to the 40s, but then we warm up in time for the thanksgiving holiday. don't go anywhere.

from colorado's sports leader here's here's rod mackey. >> a csu win over new mexico tomorrow night would be their sixth of the season making them bowl eligible, but that's not the only reason to watch the rams. it will also be their last game ever at hughes stadium, nearly 50 years of football and as aaron matas shows us, nobody had better moments at the old stadium than sonny lubick.
