stop from winning the first-ever game between virginia tech and notre dame. and it looked like the irish were going to run away with it early, taking a 17-0 lead. hokies came back. irish came back, took another 17-point lead. and then virginia tech with a field goal by slye, a couple of field goals in this fourth quarter, finally took the lead at 34-31. their first lead of the game. and jerod evans and company -- >> doug: he just kept plugging, running the football, the short passing game, the touch up and over to hodges, just kept fighting. and in the fourth quarter with the wind at their back, eventually they overtook notre dame. >> dan: so if the hokies win this game, it will be impressive indeed. it was one of those games where was the real drive going to come from virginia tech because it's not going to have anything to do

season in a new stadium being built on campus. fans and players are saying good-bye to the stadium in style. noel brennan joins us with more. >> reporter: 49 years, 261 games. tonight will be game 262. the final game to be played at hughes stadium. the parking lot is filling up ahead of kick off me before, during and after the game to the history of this place. at least 100 former players and coaches are actually going to be taking the field during halftime. that should be something to see. the gates opened a long time ago, september 28, 1968. the first night game was held in 1991. over the years, memories were made, from heart break to conference championships and

we are cooling things off fairly quickly. dealing with haze across the city. but as the sky starts fading way in the distance, the sunlight looks nice this evening. as far as the temperatures are concerned, this evening we will be watching those overnight lows plummeting in the 30s. it will be better than last night. a lot of folks were watching the nukes dipping into the teens. looking to tomorrow, however, the temperatures will be warming up back to temperature difference. the entire state warmer than yesterday. but still that is not saying much. the current temperatures at this 5:00 hour, a lot of folks are still sitting in the 20s and 30s this evening. so, we will watch the numbers cooling off tonight. then tomorrow, once again, a dry one across the entire state and we will also be looking at a big warm up, too. plenty of sunshine in place and we will be looking at the highs

this location. >> when we looked at arvada, the rtd line was icing on the cake. >> reporter: they had plans to connect arvada and wheat ridge to dia and the art line was supposed to be up and running in aurora. both lines will not operate on schedule and there is no definitive opening date. >> we are getting ready to open a coffee shop on the corner. >> reporter: a.j. payne said the line was a >> we are about a week away from opening up and we would love to have that line open. >> reporter: the federal railway administration won't allow testing because of issues on the train to the plain, specifically the crossing gates that go up too fast or stay down too long causing safety concerns and numerous delays. guards have to be stationed at every crossing. they need to figure out the problem before testing on the new lines can move forward.

for impaired drivers. the state's thanksgiving dui enforcement period is ten days long and wraps up on the 28th. last year officers made 283 arrests for impaired driving during the holiday. so far this year, cdot says there were 169 fatal crashes involving alcohol. a hunter from denver that pled guilty to poaching owes 11,000 until fines. colorado parks and wildlife said the hunter shot the bull elk last year. he didn't have a license and the bull elk season wasn't open. it can take more than 20 years to legally draw a tag to hunt in the area. it's possible the hunter could lose the privilege to hunt and fish in the state of colorado for up to five years. coming up, we will have a look at how police are catching porch pirates by beating them at their own game. >> the futurecast trump administration moves forward

hey, danielle. >> it's nice. it feels like november for a change of pace. in the high country, they have enjoyed mother nature's fresh snow fall. that has helped a lot of our local ski resorts open up the slopes and get the chairs turning out in purgatory, across the san juans and

morning but folks were doing biking. look at these guys. mountain biking in the morning then opening up the slopes in the afternoon. the quintessential colorado day. mid-40s in downtown denver. 37 in fort collins and loveland. warm, comfortable at 62 in lamar. 40s and 50s across the western slope. we are at 37 at the airport. plenty of clouds out there. winds are out of the north 5 miles nice. you can grab a light jacket. 38 right now. we are watching the temperatures cool off to the lower 30s overnight. on hd doppler 9, we aren't watching that much going on across the state but things will be changing coming up shortly. tonight about 31. a few clouds. winds along the foothills. for us 5 to 15 miles per hour. light breeze. overnight temperatures are cooler in northern colorado, in

plains. 30 in buena vista and comfortable out to the west. storm system churning across the great lakes into chicago with a little snowfall for them. a mess for their weekend. our next storm is barreling into the pacific northwest. bridging snowfall to the cascades and the sierra nevada. welcome moisture that will make its way to our backyard. great news for the mountains crossing the there is the storm system in the pacific. that's driving the cold front through. it will usher in cooler temperatures next week. a couple of days to enjoy the 50s and 60s. the storm system is producing a couple of watches and warnings. winter storm watch is in place. this kicks in not until tomorrow evening but lasts through tuesday. areas above 8,000 feet for the flat tops, south to the san juans, 8 to 14 inches of

the high country. for us in denver, looking like a rain-snow mix. i fast forward throughout the rest of the evening, quiet and calm. 11:00, mostly cloudy skies across the city. out to the west as well. tomorrow morning we wake up to a good deck of clouds, too. you may find a couple of isolated showers throughout the day possibly up in the high country, but other than that, it stays dry for eastern colorado we are watching the clouds throughout most of the sunday despite the fact that temperatures will by 10:00 p.m. tomorrow evening, you are starting to see the showers rolling through the san juans, a little rain across the mountain valleys with snowfall on the higher peaks. tomorrow about 61. a nice change. a little dose of that heat before we cool things off yet again. 55 in sterling. close to 70 in lamar. 72 in springfield. in the 50s and 60s across the western slope. partly to mostly cloudy skies

president-elect donald trump agreed to settle lawsuits over trump university to focus on our country. he said the only bad thing about winning the presidency was that he did not have time to go through a long but winning trial. he agreed to pay $25 million to settle three lawsuits from

conversation is not harassment and he thanked pence for stopping to listen. wildfires burning across the southeast sent smoke over parts of central north carolina. a large part of the state is dealing with poor air quality conditions. it's hurting tourism to some parts of the state where evacuation orders forced hotels and businesses to close temporarily. arson is suspect in multiple fires currently burning in the south. dry and windy conditions are fueling the flames. environmental cleanup crews worked late clean up the foam that spewed out of a airport hanger. it's a fire fighting foam someone discharged from the fire prevention system. with the weekend rainstorm approaching crews wanted to gather it before run off threatened to wash it into the san francisco bay. it's not hazardous to humans but dangerous for the environment. there are bait cars, bait bakes and bait packages to

detectives in oregon developed decoy packages with gps trackers. >> the tracking devices are better, they are smaller, easier to hide and we have more of them. >> when thieves steal them, the tracker leads deputies to the decoy and often to a stash of stolen packages. a family in fort collins woke up to find their thanksgiving turkey missing. it wasn't the kind you eat. it's decorating the lawn and it misty reached out to us and said the turkey was made from a barrel and ties that belonged to her grandfather. some were hand made by her grandmother. she just wants the ties returned, no questions asked. she did file a report with police and says the turkey sat outside the last couple of years undies stoushed but now it's missing and we sure hope they get it back. >> who steals a turkey off someone's lawn. >> come on, people. >> those ties belong to them.

a firefighter in north carolina used a school fire drill to pop a big question. eric's girlfriend teaches mat they school. when he was ready to pop the question, either go big or go home. he asked some of the students to help out with posters that read will you marry me. when the big day arrived, she said yes and for the record the school has monthly drills and didn't go out of its way to stage the surprise but it looks
