of penny size hail near cortez. the reports that we've gotten from silverton, 8 1/2 and telluride about 5 1/2 inches of snowfall and we're not done yet. that snow is gradually spreading into our northern and central mountains and a winter weather advisory will start at 5 p.m. for those parts of the state. basically the i-70 stretch will be a drive on through tomorrow afternoon because it's going to be under a winter storm warning and also a winter weather advisory and look at some of those snow amounts by the time the storm moves out. some parts of the state in the mountains could see about up to a foot. our southern mountains could see up to about 14 inches of snowfall. here in the city with had some blue in the sky during the day, but now those clouds have taken over and you can kind of see how that snow is building out in the distance over the mountains.

they issued a tsunami warning for the district and around that area that is north of tokyo and home to the nuclear power plant that was destroyed in 2008. people have been told to evacuate immediately. all southbound lanes of i- 25 around yale finally reopened after a tanker truck spilled fuel on the highway earlier today. traffic, backed up for miles at one point. ly that accident. the colorado department of transportation $1.2 billion i- 70 expansion project hasn't exactly been received with open arms. the sierra club filed a lawsuit in march over air quality. that case is still spending, but now a civil rights complaint by another environmental group representing the largely latino community that could be

the elyria-swansea neighborhood in northeast denver is 84% latino. >> i've been in swansea my whole life. i live in my grandparents home. >> reporter: she's been fighting the expansion into her neighborhood for a decade. >> the people affected by this expansion have some of the lowest level of education, the lowest levels of political and financial power. >> reporter: now they're also crying foul civil rights. candy and her neighbors fear increased traffic will affect their home and then there are the 56 homes cdot will acquire to widen the highway. >> the number is 56 homes, but there are multiple businesses. one of the businesses is actually a motel that's used as housing. so that takes the number of households up to about 90 households that will be affected. >> reporter: cdot says it's addressing these issues. the spokesperson rebecca white

about what is happening today along the dakota access pipeline. the protest lines in north dakota, it's clear there have been some clashes with law enforcement. hundreds of demonstrators gathered on a highway just north of the main protest camp over the weekend. protesters say police fired tear gas and rubber bullets at them. they also say firefighters intentionally sprayed them with a water cannon temperatures. law enforcement officials say they used hoses to put out fires and a water cannon was never deployed. the $3.8 billion pipeline would carry oil from north dakota to illinois. the standing rock sioux say that the pipeline threatens drinking waters and cultural sites. >> i think that the uniform -- i think the uniform was the target and the first person who happened along was the person

texas, are looking for the person who shot and killed a police officer yesterday, the same day officers were also shot in missouri and florida. the san antonio police chief released this video showing the suspect walking into the department headquarters. the chief said that the man asked a question and was told by the clerk that they would help him, but then he left. 50-year-old benjamin marconi was shot and killed sitting in his squad car. he was a 20 year veteran of the force. workers at chicago international airport are going to strike november29th. about 500 workers are expected to walk off the job trying to get $15 per hour wage. the group is not part of a union but is getting support from an union organizing the strike. the workers are mainly private contractors. strikers will include baggage handlers and janitors and more. organizers of a nationwide

some of the biggest taxi cab regulators and most admitted they did not include recalls in required vehicle inspections from tampa to houston to seattle. a startling percentage of the taxis were driving around without standing recalls. some had been ignored up to seven years and even in new york step where the taxi and limousine officials told us they require recalls to be repaired before each vehicle's annual inspection, they partner just forgot how to check a taxis we -- a lot because 27% of the taxis we checked on just weren't done. can you imagine if a home builder forgot to not use recalled screws? how does something fall through the cracks when it comes to engine shutoff issues, seatbelt concern, loss of steering? these are things that are sent in notices to car owners and

the company that makes the epipen mylan was a no show. mylan became a household name when the president had to answer for price hikes topping 700% for the life saving drugs. mylan is set to take $465 million to settle allegations it overbilled medicaid for epipens. the list price ofism pens has grown to 9wants to know spent the past two months looking at rising drug prices and assembled a list of 100 other drugs that have doubled, tripled or jumped even higher. the week long series is on 9news.com. there are fewer new cases of dementia. researchers at university of michigan discovered the rate of alzheimer's disease and other dementias in adults 65 and older dropped about 9% in 2012.

park, steamboat open on the 23rd, crested butte on the 24th and vail opens on the 25th. this is white gold for them. there are travel advisories in effect, though. traveling within the mountain passes and along the main stretch along i-70 will be difficult through tuesday afternoon, but look at the amount of snow that we could see, up to about a foot or 14 inches of snowfall in some areas. that rain and snow will gradually for central and northern mountains. we have a little bit of it now but more within the next 24 hours. 56 is the temperature now at dia. we had some sunshine during the day, but while the sun is gradually going down and the clouds take oh, breezy, wind -- take over, breezy, winds 15 miles an hour. let's check the rest of the state starting off with your current temperatures and a look at where we're at because in

temperatures are in the 50s and 40s in higher elevations. to the south we have 60s, on the eastern plains 50s and around the metro area we have mostly cloudy skies and temperatures right now in the mid-50s and low 60s down south for our friends in centennial. we have this storm coming in from the four corners. it will cause for the snow and rain to become more widespread through tomorrow morning in the mountains. here on the front range it's dry for the time being, same goes on that will change through tomorrow morning. a closer look at doppler 9 and you can see some of these showers are accompanied with lightning. we even had hail reported in rtez. a closer look at the front range mountains and we have dark clouds now, blowing snow on top of those mountain peaks and a little snow. tonight temperatures drop to 34 degrees, the possibility of light showers into the evening hours, but the main event arrives early tomorrow morning. here's your futurecast.

through 10:00 most of the action is in the mountains, maybe spotty showers on the eastern plains. then tomorrow morning rain increases here in the metro area. so marty coniglio tomorrow morning will be talking about some rain around the metro area and snow in northern colorado and a tough go in the high country. during the morning show tomorrow the rain will turn to snow. around 8:00 we'll have snow falling along i-25, i-70, i-76 and towards the tail end of tapers off. through lunchtime we'll have rain and snow on the eastern plains and in the city mostly cloudy skies. the storm starts making its way out through tomorrow evening. so tomorrow morning you're waking up getting on the roads. we'll have snow around town with winds increasing, temperatures 35 degrees. if you're on the roads around 10 a.m., we'll have stronger winds kicking in blowing around the snow, 38 degrees. then around noon the snow starts to decrease. the winds remain in action,

tomorrow is colder and windier and it feels more like winter around here with the snow. the snow forecast through tomorrow evening puts the hiin highest amounts in the mountains, but i think we could see 1 to 3 inches south of the metro area and palmer divide and on the eastern plains with maybe about an inch in northern colorado. if you're traveling anywhere tomorrow and the next several days, let's look at the travel forecast across the country. tomorrow morning we have snow in plan ahead. a chance for rain into parts of the midwest and down south into texas. come wednesday morning snow and rain from the midwest into chicago, illinois and all the way down south possibly into houston while drier weather kicks in for us. out towards the pacific northwest we'll have a new storm approaching with rain and snow developing for the pacific northwest, northern california and into idaho. by thursday our weather turns
