children slammed into a tree around 3:30 monday afternoon. 24 of those children were rushed to the hospital. at least 5 children were killed. police questioned the bus driver and overnight announced he is under arrest. 24-year old john- thony walker is being charged with 5 counts of vehicular homicide. investigators have a warrant to remove the black box from the bus as they try to determine exactly what caused this tragedy. ey people--and all are homeless. 9wants to know and rocky mountain pbs are taking a close look at the cost of homelessness in denver. the top ten arrestees are all listed as transients who are living with addiction and caught in an endless cycle of arrests. all combined, the cost to jail and prosecute them has cost denver taxpayers more than a million dollars over the last five years. for the most part, alcohol-related charges make the citations behind the

hoping to curb the problem with a "housing first" program. instead of jail, focus on permanent housing and treatment. president elect trump heads to his florida estate this afternoon, putting his transition on hold for a few days for thanksgiving. nbc's tracie potts has an update on what's happening behind the scenes. vice president- elect mike pence heads to new york today to rejoin the transition team. they're in no hurry to announce more cabinet officials before thanksgiving. shooter is competent to stand trial will enter day two in just hours. dylan roof admitted to shooting and killing nine african-americans at mother emanuel ame church in charleston in june 2015. he's facing 33 federal charges in connection to the crime. his trial started earlier this month-- but was stopped after a judge said roof must first undergo a competency evaluation. a judge could make a final deciscion on his competency this week. it's cost 30 million

creek fire in northern colorado and southern wyoming. the blaze is still smoldering today and producing smoke. routt national forest officials say the final costs haven't been tallied just yet. a juvenile was charged in connection to the fire-- but authorities haven't said how it was started. the beaver creek fire scorched mostly beetle- killed trees-- which made it more difficult for firefighters to extinguish. a big expansion at a-basin will move fo national forest approved the project which will add more than 330 skiable acres to a- basin. it may take two summers to get the work done -- the goal is to have everything ready in starbucks is

by the national western complex is being hit with a civil rights complaint. the group filing the complaint says it is representing the largely latino community that the expansion could affect. the elyria-swansea neighborhood is 84 percent latino. in march the sierra club filed a federal lawsuit over how the project would impact the people who live there. now they've also
