i-70. on the highway 86 and weld county as well. so much to talk about this morning. i'll try to get to it all through the course of the morning with rain and snow here during the morning again. a lot of melting. temperatures stay above freezing. 6:03. heading out to our cdot camera at i-25 and emmerson. sky 9 staying on the ground today. low villable and weather out there. the cause we'll check things with camerasd splash back and limited visibility here at 25 and emmerson. volume is light like yesterday. volume never picked up to usual pace because we're entering into a holiday week. issues across our roads involves railroad crossing arms. they're malfunctions at two locations. first at navajo and second out to the east near smith road at intersection of smith and

down south, new crash northbound i-25 towards castle pines. this is the area where we're expecting to see the transition from rain over to snow. once it hits the road, it most likely won't stick. that's the part of town we want to head in and check with jessica oh driving around castle rock now. what are you seeing on the highways? >> reporter: so amelia, we went down to ken carl and turned around on i-25 southbound now passing this area looks fine right now. it looks like the rain has all but let up here on i-25 southbound. if you look at cameras at the northbound lanes, tough to see. maybe blurry. we are starting to notice traffic pick up heavily in the northbound lanes. from our trip from ken carl to where we are now. we did notice lower visibility, saw two snowplows headed on their way to wherever they're

but you know, it will be tricky on parts of i-25. certainly where we are now looking fine. of course we'll continue to keep an eye on the roads. we'll turn around and try to catch up with traffic heading in the other direction. >> jessica, thank you. two of president-elect trump's toughest critics are trying to get a job in his administration. they weren't the only candidates to pay weekend. >> no, they weren't. not by a long shot. it was a parade of candidates, weekend full of interviews as trump's transition team looks to fill cabinet positions. let's start with romney. he met with trump saturday. romney and rudy giuliani are set to be the two candidates on the short list for secretary of state. sources say that giuliani is also considered for director of national intelligence. now to that meeting with texas

today. there's speculation he could be considered secretary of defense or another cabinet role. trump had a steady stream of candidates come in and out of his golf club over the weekend. they include mathis, chris christie as well who's potential role is unclear. today vice president elect mike pence will continue to look at the transition team. they're not in ary appoint cabinet spots before thanksgiving. one of the latest tweets an hour ago said, quote, great meetings will take place at trump tower today concerning the formation of people that will run our government the next eight years. he's already looking ahead to a two term presidency. thank you much. six minutes after 6:00 now. the justice department says it broke the law by requiring job applicants to be u.s. citizens

than 40 states have rules keeping law enforcement agencies from hiring non citizens. colorado does not have those restrictions. under a settlement agreement, the sheriff department will have to go back and reconsider disqualified candidates. the colorado secretary of state's says there's not enough uncounted votes to change it. the measure had wide bipartisan support. those in favor of the bill believe it was defeated because it was too confusing, didn't read well on the ballot. they'll reintroduce the measure later. picking up where we left

commute. heaviest snow south and east of the metro area. temperatures staying above freezing which means you're going to get melting on contact with pavement. that wraps up before lunchtime. just a windy, raw afternoon with temperatures only in the lower 40s. at most, i'd say a trace amount of upwards two inches. further south and evenings you live, better shot of getting upwards of two inches. heaviest castle rock along the continental divide, we get snow as well. windy east of 25. that wind is going to continue and get stronger at times between 25 and 40 miles per hour. a lot of folks travel east headed on thanksgiving here. i don't think ice is a problem. limited visibility in these strong winds could be. >> yikes. i know the resorts are happy today. >> yes, they are. >> they've been waiting.

. pushing a foot of snow at steam boat. this is their live snapped pictures in the last five minutes of their snow stay. we continue to see snow in mountain areas. it will begin to wrap up this morning. the heaviest snow eastern wyoming through weld county and south and east of metro denver. that's the heaviest band of snow on the back side of this system. things clear out later this morning. we'll also get some mixing of snow this morning before things pull out of here later in the day. even when it starts to clear out so to speak. wind and chilly temperatures will remain with 40ss for your

the storm is going to move up and out of the area. not before snow mixes through much of the day. around here, yapping up around noon today very modest snow amounts here. from a trace on the grass to upwards of two inches. especially south and eastern sections of the metro area. you have the best opportunity to get the most snow south and east of parker and castle rock. two to fives amounts as you go north and west. it's a rain snow mix for us this morning. a brief period of snow through 9:00 or 10:00. then it's just windy and cloudy this afternoon. we pop up into the 40s. notice all these surface temperatures are above freezing. even if it snows, it's going to melt on the roads. >> thank you marty. now 6:33. we're seeing some additional volume on our drive in denver.

chained up. of course those snowy conditions are affecting the i-70 drive. this is our view east of the summit at vail pass. trucks pulled over having a tough go. traffic in passenger vehicles are doing okay. across the map, radar over our traffic maps. see which roads are wet and which are dry. we zoom in and have a couple problems to talk about including a pedestrian crash at leadsdale and forest. leadsdale is what parker road turns into as y the south and west of central denver. further out east, another at smith road and 32nd. use caution headinghr particular area. we head south, crash clearing up. northbound 25 around castle pines parkway. this has been here for a while. 9 news reporter jessica oh driving around the inverness area along i-25.

. >> hey amelia. we have noticed winds started to if i can up as well as the rain. that's creating treacherous conditions on the roads. backup on i-25 northbound as we head toward the tech center now. also the backups are significant on the other side southbound as well. visibility has been a big issue as we have gotten into the 6:00 hour. on our drive here, stopped by i think near ken carl. when we got off the road, visibility was maybe ranging 3000 feet. limited visibility. especially if your commute takes you through darker areas areas with no lights. right now going about 15 miles per hour. slow down isn't too significant. definitely guys, visibility will be an issue on roads today >> thanks for the update.

fort collins. witnesses heard the couple arguing at the apartment monday evening. one man tried to intervene, and that's when witnesses say the boyfriend stabbed him. >> he said if you threaten her one more time i'm going to -- i didn't catch what he said after that. as soon as he said that, the other man threatening his girlfriend yelled i just stabbed him. oh my god, i just stabbed >> the attacker and his girl friend stay there had trying to comfort the man until the paramedics got there. the beaver creek fire in northern colorado is still smoldering and smoking this mornings. we're starting to get an idea of how costly it has been for the state. started it's cost about $30 million to fight this fire. it's destroyed one home and 16 buildings. prosecutors charged a juvenile with starting the fire.
