this is 9news. >> a deadly night in denver. multiple shootings to talk about, and then this in new orleans. a shooting that left ten people injured in one day. >> it's it's just having somebody go that low to attack somebody, you know? >> a denver customer claims an employee used a gay slur against him and it happened in front of the man's 4-year-old son. don't stand in line or get trampled by crowds. tomorrow cyber monday sounds way better than the former. 7:00 and new overnight an investigation continues after ten people were shot in the french quarter in new orleans.

the victims are between 20 and 37 years old. police have detained a couple people who were illegally carrying weapons in the area but have not directly connected them to the shooting. increased patrols were already in place in that area because of the classic college football game. an historic season leads to an historic chance at the big title. the cu buffs are headed to the pac-12 championship game. they beat utah last night. >> remarkable. after the game fans were a little excited, to say the least. here is nelson garcia. >> c buffs have won the game. everyone has stormed the field and having a good time celebrating the pac-12 south championship. they are headed to santa fe to take on washington. what does this mean to be able to win this game? >> this means everything.

area. soon the folks at loveland ski area are going to be so happy. that snow is coming in from the southwest to the northeast. that drive along i-25 is drive along i-70 is getting difficult. cloudy skies and cooler temperatures today. very different from yesterday. that heavy snow will be falling in the high country, and it's going to linger to tuesday monday. 10 to 20 minutes near e juan. here in the metro area we have clouds around town. cuddle weather. a chance for some rain and snow, very light, this morning. little to no accumulation. then the winds increasing. a beautiful shot over the city as we are starting off this sunday. here is a look at that chance for any kind of moisture. it's going to be on the light side, and any clouds we have around town are going to start clearing up after about lunchtime. the temperatures right now, we are in the 30s. we have got 20s near the divide. afternoon highs are going to be

foothills. so grab that cup of coffee. join us for the rest of the morning. those temperatures will eventually get into the 40s, and then we have some really strong winds that will be kicking up and a high wind watch that goes into effect later this week. those temperatures are going to get colder. i will let you know what's in store for the work week coming up. >> thank you. let's look at your ski traffic this morning. taking a look at current drive times, a slowdown compared an hour ago with 38 miles per hour on i-70 westbound. so it's going to take you a little bit of time heading up to the high country. you saw that look of loveland and how snowy it is on the roads right now. belen says conditions on i-70 could only get worse. there is a traction law on i-70 in vail and idaho springs. if you are driving a passenger vehicle to the high country and back, you are required to have

use chain or alternative tires there, too. so we are seeing drive times get a little bit slower, and you can check out what you can expect to see if you are heading up and down i-70 today. 7:06 now. a busy night for denver police after three separate shootings in the metro area overnight. two people have been killed and several others are in the hospital. >> yeah. there was a shooting near broadway. that killed a man. injured another. they were shot near cherokee the victim who survived was rushed to the hospital. we do not know if police are looking for suspects. denver police are also looking into a deadly shooting in the 5500 block of carson street. investigators call this a death investigation but did not say why. about ten miles away from there a triple shooting was reported overnight at 38th and high streets. three people were taken to the hospital. the man accused of hitting and killing a state patrol

41-year-old noe gamez-ruiz is out of jail on bond this morning after being arrested after friday's crash. he was charged with careless driving and failure to yield, misdemeanor charges. investigators say he hit and killed trooper cody donahue who was responding to another crash at the time. the trooper was an 11-year veteran with csp. he is the third state trooper in that department to be killed in the line of duty in 18 months. a customer is calling the way he was treated at a highlands h blow. he says a manager not only attacked his sexual orientation, but did it in front of his 4-year-old son. james shawlin says he and his husband had been refinishing their fireplace. they made several trips to floor and decor. on friday he went back to the store with his son. he says an employee gave him permission to look through some boxes of stones. he says another employee asked him what he was doing and sent over a manager. the manager asked him to buy

james tried to explain, but he couldn't believe what happened next. >> i said, hey, my husband and i spend a lot of money here. we have been using for ten years. we have $3,000 worth of stone. he goes, oh, that explains it now. [ bleep ] voted for hillary. >> shawn says another customer who overheard the exchange followed him outside and also used a gay slur. shawn ended up filing a battery view online. problem. >> plus, news of a 9news family member making a move. here is kim christiansen with what you were talking about this week. >> it's been a journey. >> reporter: clarence is a free man after 28 years in prison for a crime he says he didn't commit. after two trials for sex assault, he says he is not angry. rather, he is happy with his life today. one message. anger is a wasted emotion,

and highly justified given his injustice. he knows its better for his well being to leave the resentment behind. as hard a decision to let go it must be, i am sure he is, and will be, happy. hats off to this man. >> i had a buttoned down shirt and i ripped it off. >> reporter: he has a big personality and a big presence. former nfl player alfred williams is 6'6" and 260 pounds. he shared his panic attacks with flying. his decision to talk about a common problem connected with many of you. thank you for speaking out, big al. there are a lot of people who listen and look up to you every day, and i bet this will help at least one of them. also, i had panic attacks for almost five years. this was a long time ago and it made me to feel like i was crazy. the attacks gradually faded away, but i still remember the pain and the feeling of not being able to breathe.

especially temperatures in the 30s. we have that snow. it started last night. it will just continue to develop during the day. we are expecting from 3 to 7 inches in the high country just today. here is a view from our webcam. you can't even see the mountain out in the distance because of that low visibility and that snow that's currently falling out in the roaring fork valley. winter park ski base area, you can't even see that. white-out conditions because of that snow steadily falling close to the foothills. where we will have most of the moisture falling today. winter weather advisory will be in effect through 5:00 tuesday morning. near winter park, loveland ski area, breckenridge, a-basin 6- 12 inches in that area. 2-4 inches in northwestern colorado. towards the southwest from 2-4 inches. then we have a winter storm warning where we don't have the

our friends in purgatory. 8-16 inches near aspen, snowmass. in steamboat springs 10-20 inches. small showers, little to no accumulation expected here. here is a current look at the radar and satellite that shows where the snow is falling near the divide. a little bit of rain in northeastern colorado and out south near pueblo. now, here is your futurecast thst around 11:00 this morning we will have clearing in the city, but some light rain in northeastern colorado as that know continues to fall in the high country with strong winds, blowing snow. keep that in mind. that drive home, if you are in the mountains right now, doesn't look like it's gonna be a fun one. it's going to be slow, too. 3 p.m. here in the metro area we have sunny skies, but those winds will be strong. overnight our skies turn mostly cloudy and those winds will continue to gust really strong.

20-degree readings. this afternoon 30s in the mountains and 50s around the metro area. so these temperatures are above normal for this time of year. when you factor in the wind, it feels a whole lot colder. dress warmly to the broncos game. these temperatures will feel like in the 20s. kickoff 41 degrees. brandon mcmanus will have gusts up to 30 miles per hour. it will be gusty as well. that could be affecting our kicking game. a high wind watch goes into effect tonight foothills. the gusts could get up to 75 miles per hour. i am anticipating for that to be upgraded to a warning sometime soon. 29 will be the overnight low. windy evening. winds here in the metro area from 20-30 miles per hour. a colder week ahead. tomorrow a high of 47. tuesday another batch of cold air. 36. 30s for wednesday. thursday 41. a reminder. parade of lights is going to happen on friday. the temperatures will be at 32 degrees. so we already lit the lights.

he will retire sometime in 2018. a group of people riding in a limo on the way to a birthday party were seriously injured. it happened in oroville, california. the crash caused the truck to flip over. california highway patrol says the limo driver and one passenger were taken to the hospital with major injuries. investigators say alcohol was not a factor. the first of funerals in chattanooga, tennessee, happened saturday after six children were killed in a school bus catch. cordayja jones' pastor said she was a strong child. protests against the dakota access pipeline continue but starting next week the land that protesters are standing on could be closed. the army corps of engineers

december 5th. they say the closure means nothing unless federal officers enforce it. on saturday more than 400 people marched in bismarck, north dakota supporting the officers working along the protest line. they say it was not anti- or pro-pipeline, but a way to unite the community. terror attacks have raised concerns about americans being radicalizes. more and more people are being recruited online. at jigsaw, a branch of google that looks at geopolitical problems, they are coming up with a way to prevent radicals. they will get results or have an ad pop up, but it probably won't be exactly what they are looking for. >> if i am a young person out there somewhere maybe sympathetic to joining isis,

welcome back. belen de leon is joining us with some of our cameras. the snow is coming down. i am so excited for our skiers and snowboarders up there this morning. >> it looks great, yeah. to ski and snowboard you will have fresh powder. folks, if you are traveling back from the mountains this afternoon it's going to be a tough go. those roads are going to get more icy and snowpacked. here is what is happening currently . a storm is lifting through colorado. during the day it will continue to push to the northeast. as it does that on the back

for us here on the front range, well, let's take a look at these winter storm headlines. blowing snow in the mountains from this storm system. the heaviest accumulation will be happening today from this storm, but we could see some snow linger through tuesday morning. for us here in lower elevations currently we have some isolated rain and snow showers in northeastern colorado, and that will continue to be the trend through this morning and eventually that clears out and our skies will be blue, but then the winds take over and we could see gust a look at our webcam in ridgway. can't see what's in the distance. the san juans are completely covered with those clouds as that snow is falling. the highest amount of snow will be falling in the high country. check out these storm totals through the end of the snow event. 10 to 20 inches in the northern mountains, and the south. near the divide and the front range mountains 6 to 12 inches. temperatures are 30s in northern colorado.

now, too. this afternoon those coldest temperatures will stay up high and down low. temperatures will be cooler than yesterday. we will have highs in the 50s from fort collins into denver and out on the eastern plains. now, this morning we have been talking about the rapids. a couple viewers saying, you have not mentioned anything about the rapids. we have been talking about the rapids. i am even wearing a scarf out in the backyard. now, your forecast for the rapids game will be in the 50s. you factor in those wi there. so those gusts could get up to 30 miles per hour as the rapids take on the seattle sounders. so we're so excited for our colorado teams. we are cheering them on. let's check out this futurecast. right now a little bit of rain and snow in northeastern colorado through 1 p.m. those showers will shift to the eastern plains. in the high country that snow is going to keep going and going and going overnight through tomorrow morning. here in the city our skies will

if you see her police ask that you call 911. the man accused of hitting and killing a state patrol trooper on i-25 is facing charges this morning. 41-year-old noe gamez-ruiz is out of jail on bond after being arrested after friday's crash. he was charged with careless driving and failure to yield, both misdemeanors. investigators say noe gamez- ruiz hit and killed trooper cody donahue who was responding to another crash at the time. he was csp. he is the third state trooper in that department to be killed in the line of duty in 18 months. donald trump is calling an effort to recount election votes in some states a scam, even tweeting at least nine times this morning about how he disagrees with it. the president-elect says the people have voted and that the election is over. green party candidate jill stein raised millions of dollars to refund recounting voting in wisconsin, michigan, and minnesota.
